My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
damit du Besonnenheit bewahrst und deine Lippen auf Klugheit achten!
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
Denn die Lippen der fremden Frau triefen von Honig, glatter als Öl ist ihr Gaumen.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
Doch zuletzt ist sie bitter wie Wermut, scharf wie ein zweischneidiges Schwert.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
Ihre Füße steigen zum Tod hinab, ihre Schritte gehen der Unterwelt zu.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
Den Pfad zum Leben verfehlt sie, ihre Wege schwanken und sie merkt es nicht.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
Nun denn, ihr Söhne, hört auf mich, weicht nicht ab von den Worten, die mein Mund spricht!
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
Halte deinen Weg von ihr fern, komm ihrer Haustür nicht nahe!
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
Sonst schenkst du anderen deinen Glanz, deine Jahre einem Rücksichtslosen;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
sonst sättigen sich Fremde an deinem Vermögen, die Frucht deiner Arbeit kommt in das Haus eines andern
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
und am Ende wirst du stöhnen, wenn dein Leib und dein Fleisch dahinsiechen.
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
Dann wirst du sagen: Ach, ich habe die Erziehung gehasst, mein Herz hat die Zurechtweisung verschmäht;
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
ich habe nicht auf die Stimme meiner Erzieher gehört, mein Ohr nicht meinen Lehrern zugeneigt.
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
Fast hätte mich alles Unheil getroffen in der Versammlung und in der Gemeinde.
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Trink Wasser aus deiner eigenen Zisterne, Wasser, das aus deinem Brunnen quillt!
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Sollen deine Quellen auf die Straße fließen, auf die freien Plätze deine Bäche?
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
Dir allein sollen sie gehören, keine Fremden sollen teilen mit dir.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Dein Brunnen sei gesegnet; freu dich der Frau deiner Ju- gendtage,
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
der lieblichen Hindin, der anmutigen Gazelle! Ihre Brüste sollen dich immer berauschen und ihre Liebe dich allezeit betören!
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Warum solltest du dich an einer Fremden berauschen, den Busen einer andern umfangen?
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
Denn der Weg eines jeden liegt offen vor den Augen des HERRN, er achtet auf alle seine Pfade.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
Die eigenen Verfehlungen überwältigen den Frevler, die Stricke seiner Sünde halten ihn fest.
