The Polluted Land
They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

І було мені слово Господнє, гово́рячи: „Як відпу́стить хто жінку свою, й вона пі́де від нього, та стане за жінку для іншого чоловіка, — чи ве́рнеться ще він до неї? Чи ж не стане зовсі́м обезче́щеною оця жінка? Ти ж пере́люб чинила з коха́нцями багатьома́, і тобі поверта́тись до Мене? говорить Господь.
Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.
Зведи́ свої очі на го́ри порожні й дивися, — де пере́любу ти не чинила? Ти для них по доро́гах сиділа, немов той араб на пустині, — і збезче́стився край твоїм блу́дом та лихом твоїм!
Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
І дощі були стри́мувані, і не було́ дощу пі́знього, проте мала ти чо́ло блудни́ці, і стратила сором,
Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?
Чи ж кли́кати відни́ні не бу́деш до Мене: „Отче мій, Ти юна́цтва мого Провідни́к!
Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.
Чи Він пам'ята́тиме вічно про гнів, чи наза́вжди його стерегти́ме?“ Таке ти говориш, і безме́жно зло чиниш.
Israel's and Judah's Unfaithfulness
The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

І сказав до мене Господь за днів царя Йосії: „Чи ти бачив, що зробила невірна дочка́ Ізраїлева? Вона ходила на кожну високу го́ру, і під кожне зелене дерево, — і блудоді́яла там.
And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.
Я думав: Як зро́бить вона все оце, то до Мене пове́рнеться; та вона не верну́лась, і бачила це сестра її зра́дниця, Юдея.
And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
І побачила Юдея, що за все те, що пере́люб чинила невірна дочка Ізраїлева, відпустив Я її, і дав їй листа розводо́вого. Та зрадли́ва сестра її, дочка Юдина, не побоялася й пішла, і блудли́вою стала й вона.
And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
І сталось від ро́зголосу про пере́люб її, збезче́стила вона землю, і пере́люб чинила з камі́нням та з деревом.
And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.
І також при всьому цьому не вернулась до Мене зрадли́ва сестра її, дочка Юди, усім своїм серцем, а тільки вдава́ла, говорить Господь“.
Invitation to Repentance
And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

І промовив до мене Господь: „Невірна дочка́ Ізраїлева всправедли́вила душу свою більш від зрадли́вої дочки Юди.
Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.
Піди, і проголо́сиш слова ці на пі́вніч та й скажеш: Вернися, відсту́пна дочко Ізраїлева! говорить Госпо́дь. Не зверну́ Я Свого обличчя у гніві на вас, бо Я милости́вий, — говорить Госпо́дь, і не бу́ду повік стерегти́ Свого гніву.
Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
Тільки пізнай же прови́ну свою́, бо ти проти Господа, Бога свого повстала, і грішила з чужими під деревом кожним зеленим, і Мого голосу ви не почули, говорить Господь.
Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Верніться, діти невірні, говорить Господь, бо Я вам Госпо́дар, та візьму́ вас по о́дному з міста, а з роду по два, і вас поведу́ до Сіону!
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
І дам па́стирів вам згідно з серцем Своїм, і вони будуть па́сти вас умі́нням та ро́зумом.
And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.
І буде, коли ви розмно́житеся та розпло́дитеся на землі за цих днів, — говорить Госпо́дь, — не скажуть уже: „ковче́г заповіту Господнього“, і він вже не при́йде на серце, і його пам'ятати не бу́дуть, і більше не буде він зро́блений.
At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
Того ча́су назвуть Єрусалима: Господній престо́л, і до нього, до Єрусалиму згрома́джені будуть наро́ди усі ради Йме́ння Господнього, і більше не пі́дуть вони за впертістю серця лихого свого́,
In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.
Тими днями дім Юдин із домом Ізраїля пі́дуть і ра́зом прибу́дуть з півні́чного кра́ю до кра́ю, що вашим батькам на спа́док Я дав.
But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
І Я був поду́мав: як поставлю тебе Я посе́ред синів і дам тобі край пожада́ний, найкращу спа́дщину народів? І Я ду́мав: ви будете звати Мене: „Мій Отче“, і не відве́рнетеся ви від Мене.
Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
Справді, як зраджує жінка свого чоловіка, так ви Мене зра́дили, доме Ізраїлів! каже Господь.
A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.
Чути голос на ли́сих гора́х, плач блага́льний синів Ізраїлевих, вони бо скривили доро́гу свою, забули про Господа, Бога свого́:
Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.
„Верніться, невірні сини, усі ваші відсту́пства Я ви́лікую!“ „Ось прийшли ми до Тебе, бо Ти Господь, Бог наш!
Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.
Справді, неправда ті па́гірки, той го́мін на го́рах, — справді, в Господі, Богові нашім, спасі́ння Ізраїлеве!
For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
А той сором пожер працю наших батьків від нашої мо́лодости, їхню худобу дрібну́ й їхню худобу велику, синів їхніх та їхніх дочо́к.
We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
Лежимо́ ми у со́ромі нашому, і нас покриває ця наша неслава, бо ми прогріши́лися Господу, Богові нашому, ми й батьки наші, від нашої мо́лодости й до сьогодні, і не слухали голосу Господа, нашого Бога!“
