Jerusalem the Useless Vine
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Wieder hatte der HERR eine Botschaft für mich. Er fragte mich:
Son of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree, or than a branch which is among the trees of the forest?
»Du Mensch, ist das Holz eines Weinstocks etwa besser als das der anderen Bäume, die im Wald wachsen? Wozu ist es denn zu gebrauchen?
Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon?
Kann man irgendetwas daraus herstellen? Oder kann man es wenigstens als Pflock in eine Wand schlagen, um allerlei Werkzeuge daran aufzuhängen?
Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?
Nein! Das Holz einer Weinranke taugt einzig und allein als Brennholz! Wenn die Flammen die beiden Enden der Ranke verzehrt haben und sie auch in der Mitte schon versengt ist, ist sie dann noch zu etwas nütze?
Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less shall it be meet yet for any work, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned?
Natürlich nicht. Schon als sie noch nicht verbrannt war, konnte man nichts mit ihrem Holz anfangen — wie viel weniger, wenn das Feuer sie nun verkohlt hat!
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; As the vine tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Darum sage ich, Gott, der HERR: Das Holz eines Weinstocks ist kein bisschen wertvoller als das der anderen Bäume im Wald! Ich werfe es ins Feuer — und genau dasselbe werde ich mit den Einwohnern von Jerusalem tun!
And I will set my face against them; they shall go out from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I set my face against them.
Bisher sind sie dem Feuer noch knapp entronnen, jetzt aber werden sie von ihm verzehrt. Ja, ich selbst wende mich nun gegen sie! Mein Strafgericht wird sie treffen, und daran sollt ihr erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin.
