The Parable of the Lord's Sword
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Da empfing ich eine Botschaft vom HERRN.
Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,
»Du Mensch«, sagte er zu mir, »blick nach Süden und kündige dem Wald im Süden mein Gericht an! Sag zu ihm:
And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.
So spricht Gott, der HERR: Hör, was ich dir androhe! Schon bald lasse ich in dir ein Feuer ausbrechen, das jeden Baum verzehrt, den grünen genauso wie den dürren. Seine lodernden Flammen werden nicht verlöschen. Alle Menschen, vom Süden bis in den Norden, werden vom Feuer versengt.
Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north:
Dann wird jeder verstehen, dass ich, der HERR, das Feuer entzündet habe. Es wird nicht eher verlöschen, bis es seine Aufgabe erfüllt hat.«
That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his sheath: it shall not return any more.
Da entgegnete ich: »Ach, HERR, mein Gott, muss ich das tun? Hier sagt sowieso schon jeder von mir: ›Er redet nur in unverständlichen Gleichnissen!‹«
Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes.
Da empfing ich noch einmal eine Botschaft vom HERRN:
And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.
»Du Mensch«, sagte er wieder zu mir, »blick in Richtung Jerusalem und kündige dem Tempel dort mein Gericht an! Sag zum Land Israel:
Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
So spricht der HERR: Schon bald bekommst du es mit mir zu tun! Ich ziehe mein Schwert und vernichte alle deine Bewohner, die guten genauso wie die bösen. Alle Menschen, vom Süden bis zum Norden, wird mein Schwert treffen!
It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter: should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree.
Dann wird jeder erkennen, dass ich, der HERR, mein Schwert gezogen habe. Ich werde es nicht eher wegstecken, bis es seine Aufgabe erfüllt hat.
And he hath given it to be furbished, that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer.
Und du, Mensch, stöhne, dass die Israeliten es hören, stöhne voller Verzweiflung, als würde dir das Herz brechen!
Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh.
Wenn sie dich fragen: ›Warum stöhnst du?‹, dann antworte ihnen: ›Ich habe eine schlechte Nachricht. Wer sie hört, vergeht vor Angst, wie gelähmt lässt er die Hände sinken, ihm klopft das Herz bis zum Hals, und die Knie schlottern. Die Zeit ist gekommen, bald schon wird es geschehen. Darauf gibt euch Gott, der HERR, sein Wort.‹«
Because it is a trial, and what if the sword contemn even the rod? it shall be no more, saith the Lord GOD.
Weiter sprach der HERR zu mir:
Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thine hands together, and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers.
»Du Mensch, verkünde dem Volk meine Botschaft. Sag ihnen: So spricht der Herr: Das Schwert wird gewetzt, das Schwert wird poliert,
I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint, and their ruins be multiplied: ah! it is made bright, it is wrapped up for the slaughter.
zum Morden geschärft, und seine Klinge, die blitzt. Das Schwert ist geschliffen, nun packt es die Faust. Seine Klinge ist scharf, bereit für den Henker! Freut euch nicht und denkt, euer König würde euch doch beschützen. — Nein, sein Herrscherstab kann nichts dagegen ausrichten.
I will also smite mine hands together, and I will cause my fury to rest: I the LORD have said it.
Darum, du Mensch, schrei und brich in lautes Klagen aus! Schlag die Hände an die Brust vor lauter Entsetzen! Denn das Schwert wird unter meinem Volk wüten und alle seine Mächtigen treffen. Die Herrscher werden niedergestochen und mit ihnen das ganze Volk.
The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
Ich, Gott, der HERR, habe die Israeliten geprüft. Wenn schon ihr König nichts ausrichten konnte, wie wird es dann erst ihnen ergehen?
Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city.
Nun, du Mensch, schlag voller Zorn die Hände zusammen und droh dem Volk mein Gericht an: Zustechen soll es, dieses mächtige Schwert, zwei- oder dreimal sind noch nicht genug! Es ist eine wahrhaft tödliche Waffe, und alle werden von ihr durchbohrt.
Appoint a way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the defenced.
Ich lasse in den Toren Jerusalems die Gefallenen liegen, Angst und Schrecken breiten sich aus. Unzählige sterben unter meinem Schwert, zum Morden ist es geschärft, und seine Klinge, die blitzt.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.
Stich zu, du Schwert, lass jeden deine Klinge spüren! Stich zu — nach links, nach rechts, so wie die Hand dich gerade führt!
At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort.
Und auch ich, der HERR, werde die Hände zusammenschlagen, meinen ganzen Zorn lasse ich an Israel aus. Darauf gebe ich euch mein Wort!«
And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken.
Der HERR gab mir noch eine Botschaft. Er befahl mir:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand.
»Du Mensch, zeichne die beiden Wege, auf denen der König von Babylonien mit seinem Schwert in den Krieg ziehen kann! Beide sollen in ein und demselben Land beginnen. Dort, wo sie sich teilen, stell zwei Wegweiser auf, die zu je einer Stadt deuten:
And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,
der eine zur Ammoniterstadt Rabba, der andere nach Jerusalem, der befestigten Stadt in Juda. So zeigst du die Richtungen an, die der babylonische König mit seinem Schwert einschlagen kann.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high.
Denn er wird dort Halt machen, wo diese beiden Wege beginnen. Um zu wissen, welchen er wählen soll, lässt er das Losorakel entscheiden. Er befragt seine Götter, schüttelt die Pfeile in seinem Köcher und schaut, welche Form die Leber eines Opfertieres hat.
I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him.
Das Los fällt auf Jerusalem, in seiner rechten Hand hält er den Beweis. Darum zieht er mit seinen Soldaten nach Jerusalem, und dort stimmen sie ein lautes Kriegsgeschrei an. Sie schütten einen Belagerungswall auf, bauen Angriffsrampen rings um die Mauern und rennen gegen die Tore mit Rammböcken an.
And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is furbished, to consume because of the glittering:
Die Menschen in Juda glauben nicht, dass diese Orakelentscheidung richtig sein kann, denn sie haben dem babylonischen König schließlich einen Treueeid geschworen. Doch er bringt nun ihre ganze Schuld ans Licht und nimmt sie gefangen.
Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end.
Ich, Gott, der HERR, sage euch Israeliten: In aller Öffentlichkeit begeht ihr eure Verbrechen, eure Auflehnung gegen mich ist allgemein bekannt. Ihr selbst sorgt dafür, dass eure Schuld nicht vergessen wird. Darum werdet ihr jetzt mit harter Hand angefasst!
Shall I cause it to return into his sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy nativity.
Du gottloser Herrscher von Israel, dem nichts heilig ist, jetzt ist die Zeit für die endgültige Abrechnung gekommen!
And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, and skilful to destroy.
Ich, Gott, der HERR, sage dir: Weg mit deinem Stirnband, weg mit deiner Krone! Nichts bleibt, wie es ist: Der Mächtige wird gestürzt, der Machtlose erhöht.
Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it.
Trümmer, Trümmer, ich lege alles in Trümmer! Doch dies wird nicht eher geschehen, bis der kommt, den ich dazu beauftragt habe. Ihm werde ich das Gericht übergeben.«
