Nebuchadnezzar Confesses God's Kingdom

Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

Я, Навуходоносор, был дома, у себя во дворце, в покое и изобилии.

2

I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.

2

Но мне приснился сон, который испугал меня. Когда я лежал в постели, образы и видения, которые я видел, устрашили меня.

3

How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

И я повелел привести ко мне всех мудрецов Вавилона, чтобы они истолковали мне этот сон.

Nebuchadnezzar's Dream of a Great Tree

I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:

Когда чародеи, волшебники, мудрецы-халдеи и колдуны пришли, я рассказал им сон, но они не смогли мне его истолковать.

I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

Наконец, ко мне пришел Даниил, и я рассказал сон ему. (Его зовут Белтешаццар, в честь моего бога, и дух святых богов15 пребывает в нем.)

Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.

Я сказал:
— Белтешаццар, глава чародеев, я знаю, что в тебе пребывает дух святых богов, и нет такой тайны, разгадка которой тебя бы затруднила. Выслушай мой сон16; истолкуй его мне.

Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.

Вот что мне приснилось, когда я лежал в своей постели: я посмотрел и увидел дерево огромной высоты, стоявшее посреди земли.

But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,

Дерево выросло большим и сильным, вершиной оно касалось небес; его было видно до самых краев земли.

9

O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

Листья его были прекрасны, плоды изобильны, и на нем была пища для всех. Под ним находили пристанище полевые звери, а небесные птицы жили на его ветвях; от него кормилось всякое живое существо.

10

Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great.

В видениях, бывших мне, когда я лежал в постели, я видел, как святой страж сошел с небес.

The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:

Он громко воскликнул: «Срубите дерево и отсеките его ветви; оборвите его листья и разбросайте плоды. Пусть звери удалятся из-под него, и птицы с его ветвей.

12

The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.

Но пень с корнями, скованный железом и бронзой, пусть останется в земле, среди полевой травы. Пусть орошает его небесная роса, пусть он живет со зверями среди земных растений.

13

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;

Пусть отойдет от него человеческий разум, и дастся ему разум звериный, пока не пройдет семь лет.

14

He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:

14

Решение возвещено по приговору стражей, постановление дано по воле святых, чтобы познали живущие, что Всевышний властвует над царствами смертных, отдает их тому, кому пожелает, и ставит над ними даже последних между людьми».

15

Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth:

Таков сон, который приснился мне, царю Навуходоносору. Итак, Белтешаццар, скажи мне его толкование, потому что никто из мудрецов моего царства не может мне его истолковать. Но ты можешь, потому что в тебе пребывает дух святых богов.

16

Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.

Тогда Даниил (называемый также Белтешаццаром) пришел на время в крайнее замешательство и устрашился собственных мыслей. Царь сказал:
— Белтешаццар, пусть ни сон, ни его значение не пугают тебя.
Белтешаццар ответил:
— Мой господин, твоим бы врагам этот сон, и твоим бы неприятелям его значение!

This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Дерево, которое в твоем видении выросло большим и сильным, касалось вершиной небес и было видно всей земле,

This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou art able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in thee.

с прекрасными листьями и изобильными плодами, всех кормящее, дающее пристанище полевым зверям и гнездовья в своих ветвях небесным птицам, —

Daniel Interprets the Second Dream

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream be to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.

это ты, о царь! Ты стал великим и сильным; твое величие возросло и достигло небес, а владычество твое простирается до краев земли.

20

The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;

20

Ты, царь, видел святого стража, спускающегося с небес и говорящего: «Срубите дерево и погубите его, но оставьте пень, сковав его железом и бронзой, среди полевой травы, и корни его пусть останутся в земле. Пусть его орошает небесная роса; пусть он живет, как дикие звери, пока не пройдет семь лет».

Whose leaves were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:

Вот толкование, о царь, и вот решение Всевышнего против моего господина царя:

It is thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.

22

тебя прогонят от людей, и ты будешь жить с дикими зверями. Ты будешь есть траву, подобно волу, и тебя будет омывать небесная роса. Семь лет пройдет, прежде чем ты признаешь, что Всевышний властвует над царствами смертных и отдает их, кому пожелает.

23

And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;

Повеление оставить пень с корнями означает, что твое царство будет возвращено тебе, когда ты признаешь, что Небеса правят всем.

24

This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

Поэтому пусть будет тебе угодно, о царь, принять мой совет: загладь17 свои грехи, творя правду, и свои беззакония — милосердием к притесненным. Может быть, тогда твое благоденствие и продолжится.

25

That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

Все это и произошло с царем Навуходоносором.

26

And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

Двенадцать месяцев спустя, когда царь гулял по крыше18 царского дворца в Вавилоне,

27

Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.

он сказал:
— Разве не я воздвиг этот великий Вавилон, город царский, своей могучей силой и во славу своего величия?

28

The Second Dream Fulfilled

All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.

28

Эти слова еще были у него на устах, когда с небес раздался голос:
— Вот что определяется о тебе, царь Навуходоносор: твоя царская власть отнята у тебя.

29

At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.

29

Тебя прогонят от людей, и ты будешь жить с дикими зверями и есть траву, подобно волу. Семь лет пройдет, прежде чем ты признаешь, что Всевышний властвует над царствами смертных и отдает их, кому пожелает.

30

The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

И тотчас же сказанное о Навуходоносоре исполнилось. Его прогнали от людей, и он ел траву, подобно волу. Его тело омывалось небесной росой до тех пор, пока его волосы не выросли длинными, как перья орла, а ногти не стали точно птичьи когти.

31

While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

31

В конце этого времени я, Навуходоносор, поднял взор к небу, и мой разум вернулся ко мне. Тогда я благословил Всевышнего; я восхвалил и восславил Его, Живущего вечно.

— Владычество Его — владычество вечное;
царство Его — из поколения в поколение.

32

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

32

Все обитатели земли
ничего не значат.
Он поступает по воле Своей
с небесными силами
и обитателями земли.
Никто не властен сдержать Его руку
или сказать Ему: «Что Ты сделал?»

33

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws.

В то же время, когда вернулся ко мне мой разум, ко мне вернулись и царская слава, и честь, и величие. Мои советники и приближенные возвратились ко мне, вернули меня на мой престол, и я стал еще более велик, чем прежде.

Nebuchadnezzar's Restoration

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

Теперь я, Навуходоносор, хвалю, превозношу и славлю Царя небес, потому что все, что Он делает, есть истина и все Его пути праведны. А тех, кто ходит в гордыне, Он властен смирить.
