Blast das Horn auf dem Zion, schlagt Alarm auf dem heiligen Berg! Alle Bewohner des Landes sollen erzittern! Denn der Tag, an dem der HERR Gericht hält, lässt nicht mehr lange auf sich warten.
A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
An diesem Tag verdunkeln schwarze Wolken den Himmel, und tiefe Finsternis breitet sich aus. Ein riesiges Heer hat sich auf den Hügeln um Jerusalem niedergelassen, es verteilt sich auf den Bergen wie das Morgenrot. Nie ist so etwas je da gewesen, und es wird auch nie wieder geschehen, solange es Menschen gibt.
A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
Feuer lodert vor diesen Truppen her, und wenn sie weg sind, steht alles in Flammen. Bevor sie über das Land herfallen, ist es ein blühendes Paradies, doch kaum sind sie hindurchgezogen, bleibt nur noch eine trostlose Wüste zurück. Es gibt kein Entrinnen vor ihnen!
The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
Sie sehen aus wie Pferde, sie stürmen daher wie Schlachtrosse.
Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
Wenn sie über die Gipfel der Berge kommen, klingt es wie herandonnernde Streitwagen, wie ein prasselndes Feuer, das auf den Feldern die Stoppeln verzehrt. Sie sind ein gewaltiges Heer, bestens gerüstet zum Kampf.
Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.
Bei ihrem Anblick zittern die Völker, die Gesichter der Menschen sind totenbleich.
They shall run like mighty men; they shall climb the wall like men of war; and they shall march every one on his ways, and they shall not break their ranks:
Unerschrocken stürmen die Angreifer heran und klettern wie Soldaten auf die Mauern. Niemand kann sie aufhalten, unentwegt ziehen sie voran.
Neither shall one thrust another; they shall walk every one in his path: and when they fall upon the sword, they shall not be wounded.
Keiner kommt dem anderen in die Quere, denn sie alle kennen ihren Platz. Sie preschen durch die Waffen der Feinde hindurch, ihre Truppen nehmen kein Ende.
They shall run to and fro in the city; they shall run upon the wall, they shall climb up upon the houses; they shall enter in at the windows like a thief.
Dann fallen sie über die Stadt her, erstürmen die Mauern und dringen durch die Fenster in die Häuser ein wie Diebe in der Nacht.
The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining:
Die Erde bebt und der Himmel zittert, wenn sie erscheinen, Sonne und Mond werden finster, das Licht der Sterne erlischt.
And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
Der HERR selbst führt dieses Heer an, mit mächtiger Stimme befiehlt er, und die riesigen Truppen gehorchen ihm. Groß und schrecklich ist der Tag, an dem der HERR Gericht hält! Wer kann ihn überstehen?
Return with All Your Heart
Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:

So spricht der HERR: »Auch jetzt noch könnt ihr zu mir umkehren! Tut es von ganzem Herzen, fastet, weint und klagt!
And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
Ja, zerreißt eure Herzen vor Trauer und nicht bloß eure Kleider!« Kommt zurück zum HERRN, eurem Gott, denn er ist gnädig und barmherzig, seine Geduld ist groß, und seine Liebe kennt kein Ende. Die Strafe, die er angedroht hat, tut ihm selbst leid.
Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?
Wer weiß, vielleicht wendet er das Unheil ja noch ab und segnet euch aufs Neue! Dann schenkt er euch wieder eine gute Ernte, und ihr könnt dem HERRN, eurem Gott, Speise- und Trankopfer darbringen.
Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:
Blast das Horn auf dem Zion! Ruft die Menschen zum Fasten auf! Sie sollen sich alle zum Gottesdienst versammeln.
Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
Das ganze Volk soll kommen und sich darauf vorbereiten, dem heiligen Gott zu begegnen! Ruft alle herbei, vom Säugling bis zum Greis! Selbst Braut und Bräutigam müssen ihre Kammer verlassen und kommen!
Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
Ihr Priester, ihr Diener des HERRN, weint im Tempelvorhof und betet: »HERR, hab Erbarmen mit deinem Volk! Wir gehören doch zu dir! Lass nicht zu, dass fremde Völker uns verspotten! Warum sollen sie uns verhöhnen und rufen: ›Wo bleibt er nun, ihr Gott?‹«
Restoration Promised

Da erwachte im HERRN die leidenschaftliche Liebe zu seinem Land, und er hatte Mitleid mit seinem Volk.
Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
Er antwortete ihnen: »Ich schenke euch wieder so viel Getreide, Wein und Öl, dass ihr genug zu essen habt. Ich setze euch nicht länger dem Hohn und Spott anderer Völker aus!
But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
Den Feind aus dem Norden jage ich fort von euch, ich treibe ihn in die Wüste. Seine vordersten Truppen stürze ich ins Tote Meer und die letzten ins Mittelmeer. Überall wird es dann nach Verwesung stinken. So strafe ich euren Feind, denn er hat euch Gewalt angetan.«
Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.
Ihr Felder, seid nicht länger bekümmert, freut euch und jubelt, denn der HERR hat ein großes Wunder getan!
Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
Ihr Tiere in der Steppe, habt keine Angst mehr! Eure Weideplätze sind wieder grün, die Bäume hängen voller Früchte, Feigenbaum und Weinstock bringen reiche Ernte.
Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
Auch ihr, die ihr auf dem Berg Zion wohnt, freut euch und jubelt über den HERRN, euren Gott! Wie treu und gerecht ist er! Er schenkt euch wieder erfrischenden Regen im Herbst und im Frühling, so wie er es früher getan hat.
And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.
Auf den Dreschplätzen häuft sich das Getreide, und aus der Kelter fließen Most und Öl in Strömen.
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
Gott lässt euch sagen: »Das ganze Heer von Heuschrecken, das über euch hergefallen ist, war von mir gesandt. Jetzt aber will ich euch all die Ernten ersetzen, die diese gefräßigen Tiere vernichtet haben.
And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
Dann habt ihr mehr als genug zu essen und lobt meinen Namen. Denn ich bin der HERR, euer Gott, der große Wunder für euch vollbracht hat. Nie mehr soll mein Volk verhöhnt werden!
And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
Ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich mitten unter euch in Israel wohne und dass ich allein der HERR, euer Gott, bin und sonst keiner! Ja, nie mehr lasse ich mein Volk in Schimpf und Schande dastehen!«
