Ein Gebet des Propheten Habakuk:
O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
HERR, ich habe von deinen großen Taten gehört, deine Werke erfüllen mich mit Ehrfurcht. Greif in dieser Zeit noch einmal so machtvoll ein, lass uns bald wieder dein Handeln erleben! Auch wenn du im Zorn strafen musst — so hab doch Erbarmen mit uns!
God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
Von Teman kommt er, der heilige Gott, vom Bergland Paran zieht er heran. Sein Glanz strahlt über den Himmel, und sein Ruhm erfüllt die ganze Erde.
And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.
Wie das Sonnenlicht bricht seine Herrlichkeit hervor, um ihn leuchtet es hell, und in den Strahlen verbirgt sich seine Macht!
Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
Vor ihm her geht die Pest, und wo er vorbeigezogen ist, greift die Seuche um sich.
He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
Wo immer sein Fuß hintritt, bebt die Erde; trifft sein Blick die Völker, so erschrecken sie. Berge aus grauer Vorzeit bersten auseinander, uralte Hügel sinken in sich zusammen; so schreitet er wie früher über unsere Erde.
I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
Ich sehe die Zelte von Kuschan erzittern, und auch die der Midianiter geraten ins Wanken.
Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?
Wem gilt dein Zorn, HERR? Den großen Strömen oder den Fluten des Meeres? Gegen wen ziehst du mit deinen Pferden in den Krieg, wohin rasen deine siegreichen Streitwagen?
Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
Jetzt holst du den Bogen zum Kampf hervor, du hast geschworen, dass deine Pfeile treffen! Du spaltest die Erde, bis Ströme hervorbrechen.
The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.
Bei deinem Anblick erbeben die Berge, dichter Regen prasselt vom Himmel nieder, das Meer braust, seine Wogen türmen sich auf.
The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
Sonne und Mond stehen still, wenn deine leuchtenden Pfeile fliegen und dein Speer am Himmel aufblitzt.
Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
Ja, voller Zorn schreitest du über die Erde und schlägst die Völker, wie man Weizen drischt.
Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
Du bist gekommen, um dein Volk zu retten, du stehst dem König bei, den du auserwählt hast! Vom Palast des Unterdrückers reißt du das Dach herab, nur noch ein paar Grundmauern bleiben übrig.
Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
Seine Heerführer sind entschlossen, uns zu vernichten. Schon stürmen sie heran und freuen sich darauf, uns Wehrlose in einen Hinterhalt zu locken und zu töten wie ein Löwe seine Beute. Doch du durchbohrst sie mit ihren eigenen Pfeilen!
Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.
Für deine Pferde bahnst du dir einen Weg, du reitest mit ihnen mitten durchs Meer, auch wenn seine Fluten noch so hoch steigen.
When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
Als Gott mir dies alles zeigte, fing ich am ganzen Leib an zu zittern. Seine Worte ließen meine Lippen beben, der Schreck fuhr mir in die Glieder, und ich konnte mich kaum noch auf den Beinen halten. Aber nun will ich ruhig auf den Tag warten, an dem das Unheil über dieses Volk hereinbricht, das zum Angriff gegen uns bläst.
Habakkuk Rejoices
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

Noch trägt der Feigenbaum keine Blüten, und der Weinstock bringt keinen Ertrag, noch kann man keine Oliven ernten, und auf unseren Feldern wächst kein Getreide; noch fehlen Schafe und Ziegen auf den Weiden, und auch die Viehställe stehen leer.
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Und doch will ich jubeln, weil Gott mich rettet, der HERR selbst ist der Grund meiner Freude!
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
Ja, Gott, der HERR, macht mich stark; er beflügelt meine Schritte, wie ein Hirsch kann ich über die Berge springen. Anweisung für den Dirigenten: Dieses Lied soll mit Saiteninstrumenten begleitet werden.
