And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
und Jesus eben aus dem Boot stieg, kam ihm ein Mann entgegen. Dieser Mensch wurde von einem bösen Geist beherrscht
Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:
und hauste in Grabhöhlen. Er war so wild, dass er nicht einmal mit Ketten gebändigt werden konnte.
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
Sooft man ihn auch an Händen und Füßen fesselte, jedes Mal zerbrach er die Ketten wieder und riss sich los. Niemand konnte ihn überwältigen.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.
Tag und Nacht hielt er sich in den Grabhöhlen auf oder irrte in den Bergen umher. Dabei schrie er und schlug mit Steinen auf sich ein.
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,
Kaum hatte er Jesus von weitem gesehen, rannte er los, warf sich vor ihm nieder
And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.
und rief laut: »Was willst du von mir, Jesus, du Sohn Gottes, des Höchsten? Ich beschwöre dich bei Gott, quäle mich nicht!«
For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.
Jesus hatte nämlich dem Dämon befohlen: »Verlass diesen Menschen, du böser Geist!«
And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.
Da fragte ihn Jesus: »Wie heißt du?« Der Dämon antwortete: »Mein Name ist Legion; wir sind nämlich viele.«
And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.
Er flehte Jesus an: »Vertreibe uns nicht aus dieser Gegend!«
Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.
Nicht weit entfernt an einem Abhang weidete eine große Herde Schweine.
And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
»Lass uns in diese Schweine fahren!«, baten die Dämonen.
And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.
Jesus erlaubte es ihnen. Jetzt verließen die bösen Geister den Mann und bemächtigten sich der Schweine. Die ganze Herde — ungefähr zweitausend Tiere — stürzte den Abhang hinunter in den See und ertrank.
And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.
Die Schweinehirten ergriffen die Flucht und erzählten in der Stadt und in den umliegenden Dörfern, was geschehen war. Von überall her kamen die Leute gelaufen, um sich selbst zu überzeugen.
And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
Sie sahen den Mann, den die vielen Dämonen gequält hatten. Er war ordentlich angezogen und bei klarem Verstand. Ganz ruhig saß er neben Jesus — und das, obwohl so viele Dämonen ihn in ihrer Gewalt gehabt hatten! Da wurde ihnen unheimlich zumute.
And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.
Diejenigen aber, die alles mit angesehen hatten, erzählten, wie der Besessene geheilt wurde und was mit den Schweinen geschehen war.
And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.
Daraufhin baten die Leute Jesus, er möge ihre Gegend wieder verlassen.
And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.
Jesus wollte gerade in das Boot steigen, als ihn der Geheilte bat, bei ihm bleiben zu dürfen.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.
Aber Jesus erlaubte es ihm nicht. Er sagte: »Geh nach Hause zu deiner Familie und erzähle ihnen, welches große Wunder der Herr an dir getan hat und wie barmherzig er mit dir gewesen ist!«
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.
Da ging der Mann weg und berichtete im ganzen Gebiet der Zehn Städte, was Jesus für ihn getan hatte. Und alle staunten.
The Healing Touch of Jesus
And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

Kaum war Jesus ans andere Ufer zurückgefahren, als sich dort wieder eine große Menschenmenge um ihn versammelte.
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
Da kam ein Vorsteher der jüdischen Gemeinde namens Jaïrus. Als er Jesus entdeckte, warf er sich ihm zu Füßen
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
und flehte ihn an: »Meine Tochter liegt im Sterben. Komm und leg ihr die Hände auf, damit sie wieder gesund wird und am Leben bleibt!«
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.
Jesus ging mit ihm, dicht gefolgt von einer großen Menschenmenge.
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
Unter den Leuten war auch eine Frau, die seit zwölf Jahren an starken Blutungen litt.
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
Sie hatte sich schon von vielen Ärzten behandeln lassen, dabei sehr gelitten und ihr ganzes Vermögen ausgegeben. Aber niemand hatte ihr helfen können. Ihr Leiden war nur noch schlimmer geworden.
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
Dann hatte sie von Jesus gehört. Deshalb drängte sie sich durch die Menge von hinten an ihn heran und berührte heimlich sein Gewand.
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
Denn sie sagte sich: »Wenn ich wenigstens seine Kleider berühren kann, werde ich bestimmt gesund.«
And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
Und tatsächlich: Die Blutungen hörten sofort auf, und sie spürte, dass sie von ihrem Leiden befreit war.
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
Im selben Augenblick merkte auch Jesus, dass heilende Kraft von ihm ausgegangen war. Deshalb drehte er sich um und fragte: »Wer hat mein Gewand angefasst?«
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
Seine Jünger antworteten: »Du siehst doch, dass die Leute dich von allen Seiten bedrängen, und da fragst du, wer dich angefasst hat?«
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
Aber Jesus blickte sich weiter um und versuchte herauszufinden, wer ihn berührt hatte.
But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Die Frau war erschrocken und zitterte am ganzen Leib, denn sie wusste ja, was mit ihr geschehen war. Sie trat hervor, fiel vor ihm nieder und erzählte ihm alles.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
Jesus sagte zu ihr: »Meine Tochter, dein Glaube hat dich geheilt. Geh in Frieden. Du bist gesund.«
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
Noch während er mit der Frau redete, kamen einige Leute aus dem Haus von Jaïrus gelaufen und sagten zu ihm: »Deine Tochter ist gestorben. Es hat keinen Zweck mehr, den Lehrer zu bemühen.«
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Jesus hörte das und sagte zu Jaïrus: »Verzweifle nicht! Vertrau mir einfach!«
And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
Er wies die Menschen zurück, die ihm folgen wollten. Nur Petrus und die Brüder Jakobus und Johannes durften ihn begleiten.
And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
Als sie zum Haus von Jaïrus kamen, sah Jesus die vielen aufgeregten Menschen und hörte ihr Weinen und lautes Klagen.
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
Er ging hinein und fragte: »Weshalb macht ihr solchen Lärm? Warum weint ihr? Das Kind ist nicht gestorben, es schläft nur.«
And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
Da lachten sie ihn aus. Jesus schickte sie alle weg; nur die Eltern und seine drei Jünger gingen mit in das Zimmer, wo das Mädchen lag.
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
Dann nahm er ihre Hand und sagte: »Talita kum!« Das heißt übersetzt: »Mädchen, steh auf!«
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
Da stand das zwölfjährige Kind auf und ging im Zimmer umher. Alle waren völlig fassungslos.
