A Call to Repentance

There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

Тим часом прийшли деякі й розповіли Йому про галилейців, кров яких Пилат змішав з їхніми жертвами.

And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

У відповідь [Ісус] сказав їм: Чи ви думаєте, що ці галилейці, які так постраждали, були більш грішні від інших галилейців?

3

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

3

Ні, кажу вам; але якщо не покаєтеся, то всі так само загинете.

4

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

Або ті вісімнадцять, на яких упала силоамська вежа і побила їх, чи думаєте, що вони були більше винні від усіх людей, які проживають в Єрусалимі?

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

І Він розповів таку притчу: Один чоловік мав у своєму винограднику смоківницю і прийшов шукати на ній плоду, але не знайшов.

7

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

Тож сказав він виноградареві: Ось уже третій рік, як приходжу шукати плоду на цій смоківниці й не знаходжу; тому зрубай її, — нащо землю даремно займає?

8

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

А той у відповідь каже йому: Пане, залиш її ще на цей рік, доки обкопаю довкола неї та підсиплю гною,

And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

то, може, наступного року зродить плід, а коли ні, зрубаєш її!

Jesus Heals a Woman on the Sabbath

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

І навчав Ісус в одній із синагог у суботу.

11

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

11

Була там одна жінка, яка вісімнадцять років мала духа хвороби: була скорчена й зовсім не могла випростатися.

12

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

12

Побачивши її, Ісус покликав і сказав їй: Жінко, ти звільнена від своєї недуги!

13

And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

13

Він поклав на неї руки — і враз випросталася, і стала прославляти Бога.

14

And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

14

У відповідь старший синагоги, обурений тим, що Ісус оздоровив у суботу, промовив до натовпу: Є шість днів, в які належить працювати; тож приходьте тоді оздоровлятися, а не суботнього дня.

15

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

Та Господь відповів йому і сказав: Лицеміри, хіба кожний з вас не відв’язує у суботу вола або осла від ясел і не веде напувати?

16

And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

16

А цю дочку Авраама, яку зв’язав сатана ось уже вісімнадцять років, чи не годиться звільнити від цього пута в суботній день?

17

And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

17

І коли Ісус це говорив, стало соромно всім, які противилися Йому, і весь натовп радів усьому тому славному, що Він чинив.

18

The Parable of the Mustard Seed

Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

18

А Він промовив: До кого подібне Боже Царство, і до чого його прирівняю?

19

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

19

Подібне воно до зерна гірчиці, яке людина взяла і кинула у свій город. І воно виросло і стало [великим] деревом, і птахи небесні оселилися в його гілках.

20

The Parable of the Leaven

And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

20

І знову сказав: До чого прирівняю Боже Царство?

21

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

Подібне воно до закваски, яку бере жінка, кладе в три мірки [1] борошна, доки не вкисне все!

22

The Narrow Gate

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

22

І проходив Ісус містами й селами, і навчав, ідучи в Єрусалим.

23

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

23

Сказав Йому хтось: Господи, чи мало є тих, які спасаються? Він відповів їм:

24

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

24

Силкуйтесь увійти через вузькі двері, бо багато хто, кажу вам, буде намагатися ввійти, та не зможе.

25

When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

Коли ж устане Господар і замкне двері, ви станете знадвору й будете стукати у двері, кажучи: Господи, [Господи], відчини нам! А Він у відповідь скаже вам: Я не знаю вас, звідки ви є!

26

Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

26

Тоді почнете казати: Ми їли й пили перед Тобою, і Ти навчав на наших площах.

27

But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

27

А Він відповість вам і скаже: Я не знаю вас, звідки ви! Відступіть від Мене всі, які чините беззаконня!

28

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

28

Там буде плач і скрегіт зубів, коли побачите Авраама, Ісаака, Якова й усіх пророків у Царстві Божому, а себе — вигнаними геть.

29

And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

29

І прийдуть зі сходу, із заходу, з півночі, з півдня і сядуть у Царстві Божому.

30

And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

30

І ось, є останні, які будуть першими, і є перші, які будуть останніми!

31

Lament over Jerusalem

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

31

У той час підійшли деякі з фарисеїв і сказали Йому: Виходь і йди звідси, бо Ірод хоче Тебе вбити.

32

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

32

А Він відповів їм: Ідіть і скажіть цьому лисові [2]: Ось Я виганяю бісів і оздоровляю сьогодні й завтра, а третього дня закінчу.

33

Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

33

Усе ж таки сьогодні та завтра, а наступного дня Мені треба йти, бо неможливо, щоби пророк загинув поза Єрусалимом.

34

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

Єрусалиме, Єрусалиме, що вбиваєш пророків і камінням побиваєш посланих до тебе! Скільки разів хотів Я зібрати твоїх дітей, як квочка збирає своїх курчат під крила, — та ви не захотіли!

35

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

35

Тому залишається вам дім ваш [порожнім]. Кажу вам, що не побачите Мене, аж поки не станеться, що ви скажете: Благословенний, Хто йде в Ім’я Господнє!
