Parable of the Persistent Widow
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
In einer Stadt lebte ein Richter, der Gott nicht fürchtete und auf keinen Menschen Rücksicht nahm.
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
In der gleichen Stadt lebte auch eine Witwe, die immer wieder zu ihm kam und sagte: Verschaff mir Recht gegen meinen Widersacher!
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Und er wollte lange Zeit nicht. Dann aber sagte er sich: Ich fürchte zwar Gott nicht und nehme auch auf keinen Menschen Rücksicht;
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
weil mich diese Witwe aber nicht in Ruhe lässt, will ich ihr Recht verschaffen. Sonst kommt sie am Ende noch und schlägt mich ins Gesicht.
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
Der Herr aber sprach: Hört, was der ungerechte Richter sagt!
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Sollte Gott seinen Auserwählten, die Tag und Nacht zu ihm schreien, nicht zu ihrem Recht verhelfen, sondern bei ihnen zögern?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Ich sage euch: Er wird ihnen unverzüglich ihr Recht verschaffen. Wird jedoch der Menschensohn, wenn er kommt, den Glauben auf der Erde finden?
The Pharisee and Tax Collector
And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Zwei Männer gingen zum Tempel hinauf, um zu beten; der eine war ein Pharisäer, der andere ein Zöllner.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Der Pharisäer stellte sich hin und sprach bei sich dieses Gebet: Gott, ich danke dir, dass ich nicht wie die anderen Menschen bin, die Räuber, Betrüger, Ehebrecher oder auch wie dieser Zöllner dort.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Ich faste zweimal in der Woche und gebe den zehnten Teil meines ganzen Einkommens.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Der Zöllner aber blieb ganz hinten stehen und wollte nicht einmal seine Augen zum Himmel erheben, sondern schlug sich an die Brust und betete: Gott, sei mir Sünder gnädig!
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Ich sage euch: Dieser ging gerechtfertigt nach Hause hinab, der andere nicht. Denn wer sich selbst erhöht, wird erniedrigt, wer sich aber selbst erniedrigt, wird erhöht werden.
Jesus Blesses the Children
And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.

Man brachte auch kleine Kinder zu ihm, damit er sie berühre. Als die Jünger das sahen, wiesen sie die Leute zurecht.
But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Jesus aber rief die Kinder zu sich und sagte: Lasst die Kinder zu mir kommen und hindert sie nicht daran! Denn solchen wie ihnen gehört das Reich Gottes.
Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
Amen, ich sage euch: Wer das Reich Gottes nicht so annimmt wie ein Kind, der wird nicht hineinkommen.
The Rich Young Ruler
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

Einer von den führenden Männern fragte ihn: Guter Meister, was muss ich tun, um das ewige Leben zu erben?
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Jesus antwortete ihm: Warum nennst du mich gut? Niemand ist gut außer der eine Gott.
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.
Du kennst doch die Gebote: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen, du sollst nicht töten, du sollst nicht stehlen, du sollst nicht falsch aussagen; ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter!
And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
Er erwiderte: Alle diese Gebote habe ich von Jugend an befolgt.
Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Als Jesus das hörte, sagte er ihm: Eines fehlt dir noch: Verkauf alles, was du hast, und verteil es an die Armen und du wirst einen Schatz im Himmel haben; dann komm und folge mir nach!
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Der Mann aber wurde sehr traurig, als er das hörte; denn er war überaus reich.
And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Jesus sah, dass er sehr traurig geworden war, und sagte: Wie schwer ist es für Menschen, die viel besitzen, in das Reich Gottes zu kommen!
For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Denn leichter geht ein Kamel durch ein Nadelöhr, als dass ein Reicher in das Reich Gottes gelangt.
And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
Die Leute, die das hörten, fragten: Wer kann dann noch gerettet werden?
And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Er erwiderte: Was für Menschen unmöglich ist, ist für Gott möglich.
Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
Da sagte Petrus: Siehe, was wir besaßen, haben wir verlassen und sind dir nachgefolgt.
And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
Jesus antwortete ihnen: Amen, ich sage euch: Jeder, der um des Reiches Gottes willen Haus oder Frau, Brüder, Eltern oder Kinder verlassen hat,
Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
erhält dafür schon in dieser Zeit das Vielfache und in der kommenden Welt das ewige Leben.
Jesus Again Predicts His Death
Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

Jesus versammelte die Zwölf um sich und sagte zu ihnen: Siehe, wir gehen nach Jerusalem hinauf; und es wird sich alles erfüllen, was bei den Propheten über den Menschensohn geschrieben steht.
For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:
Denn er wird den Heiden ausgeliefert, wird verspottet, misshandelt und angespuckt werden
And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
und man wird ihn geißeln und töten und am dritten Tag wird er auferstehen.
And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Doch die Zwölf verstanden das alles nicht; der Sinn der Worte war ihnen verschlossen und sie begriffen nicht, was er sagte.
Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:

Es geschah aber: Jesus kam in die Nähe von Jericho, da saß ein Blinder an der Straße und bettelte.
And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
Er hörte, dass viele Menschen vorbeigingen, und fragte: Was hat das zu bedeuten?
And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by.
Man berichtete ihm: Jesus von Nazaret geht vorüber.
And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Da rief er: Jesus, Sohn Davids, hab Erbarmen mit mir!
And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
Die Leute, die vorausgingen, befahlen ihm zu schweigen. Er aber schrie noch viel lauter: Sohn Davids, hab Erbarmen mit mir!
And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
Jesus blieb stehen und ließ ihn zu sich herführen. Als der Mann vor ihm stand, fragte ihn Jesus:
Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
Was willst du, dass ich dir tue? Er antwortete: Herr, ich möchte sehen können.
And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
Da sagte Jesus zu ihm: Sei sehend! Dein Glaube hat dich gerettet.
