Misuse of Riches

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

1

А ну ж тепер ви, багачі́, — плачте й ридайте над лихом своїм, що вас має спіткати:

2

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

2

ваше багатство згнило, а ваші вбрання́ міль поїла!

3

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Золото ваше та срі́бло поіржа́віло, а їхня іржа буде сві́дчити проти вас, і поїсть ваше тіло, немов той огонь! Ви скарби зібрали собі на останні дні!

4

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Ось голосить заплата, що ви затримали в робі́тників, які жали на ваших полях, — і голосі́ння женці́в досягли́ вух Господа Савао́та!

5

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

5

Ви розкошували на землі й насолоджувались, серця свої ви́годували, немов би на день зако́лення.

6

Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

Ви Праведного засудили й убили, — Він вам не проти́вився!

7

Patience in Suffering

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Отож, браття, довготерпіть аж до при́ходу Господа! Ось чекає рільни́к дорогоцінного пло́ду землі, довготе́рпить за нього, аж поки оде́ржить дощ ранній та пізній.

8

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Довготерпі́ть же й ви, зміцніть серця ваші, бо набли́зився при́хід Господній!

9

Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

9

Не нарікайте один на о́дного, браття, щоб вас не засу́джено, — он Суддя стоїть перед дверима!

10

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

Візьміть, браття, пророків за при́клад стражда́ння та довготерпі́ння, — вони промовляли Господнім Ім'я́м!

11

Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Отож, за блаженних ми маємо тих, хто витерпів. Ви чули про Йо́вове терпі́ння та бачили Господній кінець його́, що „ве́льми Господь милости́вий та щедрий“.

12

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

А найперше, браття мої, не кляніться ні небом, ані землею, і ніякою іншою клятвою! Слово ж ваше хай буде: „Так, так“ та „Ні, ні“, щоб не впасти вам в о́суд.

13

The Prayer of Faith

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

13

Чи страждає хто з вас? Нехай молиться! Чи тішиться хтось? Хай співає псалми́!

14

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

14

Чи хворі́є хто з вас? Хай покличе пресвітерів Церкви, і над ним хай помоляться, намасти́вши його оливою в Господнє Ім'я́,

15

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

15

і молитва віри вздоро́вить недужого, і Господь його піді́йме, а коли він гріхи був учинив, то вони йому простяться.

16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Отже, признава́йтесь один перед о́дним у своїх про́гріхах, і моліться один за о́дного, щоб вам уздоро́витись. Бо дуже могутня ре́вна молитва праведного!

17

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

Ілля́ був люди́на, подібна до нас при́страстями, і він помолився молитвою, щоб дощу́ не було́, — і дощу не було́ на землі аж три роки й шість місяців...

18

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

18

І він знов помолився, — і дощу́ дало́ небо, а земля вродила свій плід!

19

Restoring a Sinner

Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

19

Бра́ття мої, — коли хто з-поміж вас заблудить від правди, і його хто наверне,

20

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

20

хай знає, що той, хто грішника навернув від його блу́дної дороги, той душу його спасає від смерти та бе́зліч гріхів покриває!
