Misuse of Riches

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

1

Тепер слухайте, ви, багатії, плачте й ридайте над жахливими вашими злиднями, які надходять.

2

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

Ваше багатство зотліло, а ваш одяг сточила міль.

3

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Ваше золото й срібло поржавіло, і їх іржа свідчитиме проти вас і з’їсть ваші тіла, як вогонь. Ви назбирали скарбів на останні дні.

4

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Ось затримана вами платня робітників, які жали на ваших нивах, вже волає, і зойки женців досягли вух Господа Саваота.

5

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

5

Ви розкошували на землі й насолоджувалися, наситили свої серця, [немов] на заколення.

6

Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

6

Ви засудили й убили Праведника; Він вам не чинив опору.

7

Patience in Suffering

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Отже, брати, будьте довготерпеливі до Господнього приходу. Ось хлібороб очікує дорогоцінного врожаю від землі, терпляче очікує його, доки випадуть ранній та пізній дощі.

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

8

Довготерпеливі будьте й ви; зміцніть ваші серця, адже прихід Господа вже близько.

9

Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

9

Не нарікайте один на одного, брати, щоб вам не бути засудженими. Ось Суддя стоїть перед дверима.

10

Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

10

Брати [мої], майте за приклад страждання і довготерпіння пророків, які промовляли Господнім Ім’ям.

11

Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

Тому що блаженними називаємо тих, які терпіли. Ви чули про терпіння Йова і знаєте Господній кінець, що Господь дуже милосердний та щедрий.

12

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Та насамперед, брати мої, не кляніться ні небом, ні землею, ні якоюсь іншою клятвою. Нехай же буде у вас «так» — це «так», а «ні» — це «ні», щоб ви не підпали під осуд.

The Prayer of Faith

Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Як хтось між вами страждає, нехай молиться. Як хтось радіє, нехай співає псалми.

14

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

14

Як хтось між вами хворіє, нехай покличе пресвітерів Церкви, і хай помоляться над ним, намастивши його олією в Ім’я Господнє.

15

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

15

І молитва віри спасе хворого, і Господь підійме його, а коли він учинив гріхи, вони йому будуть прощені.

16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

16

Тому визнавайте один перед одним гріхи, моліться один за одного, щоби зцілитися, бо має велику силу ревна молитва праведного.

17

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

17

Ілля був людиною з подібними до нас нахилами, та помолився молитвою, аби не було дощу, і дощу не було на землі три роки й шість місяців.

18

And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

18

І він помолився знову, — і небо дало дощ, а земля зростила свій урожай.

19

Restoring a Sinner

Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

19

Брати мої, коли хтось із вас відхилиться від правди, а його хтось наверне,

20

Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

20

то нехай знає, що той, хто навернув грішника з його облудної дороги, спасе свою душу від смерті й покриє безліч гріхів.
