Greetings from Peter

Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

1

Симеон Петро, раб та апо́стол Ісуса Христа, до тих, хто одержав із нами рівноці́нну віру в праведності Бога нашого й Спасителя Ісуса Христа:

Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

благодать вам та мир нехай примно́житься в пізна́нні Бога й Ісуса, Господа нашого!

Make Your Calling Sure

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Усе, що потрібне для життя та побожности, подала́ нам Його Божа сила пізна́нням Того, Хто покликав нас славою та чесно́тою.

4

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Через них даро́вані нам цінні та великі обі́тниці, щоб ними ви стали уча́сниками Божої Істо́ти, утікаючи від пожадливого світового тління.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

Тому́ докладіть до цього всю пильність, і покажіть у вашій вірі чесно́ту, а в чесно́ті — пізна́ння,

6

And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

а в пізнанні — стри́мання, а в стри́манні — терпеливість, а в терпеливості — благоче́стя,

7

And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

7

а в благочесті — брате́рство, а в братерстві — любов.

8

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Бо коли це в вас є та примно́жується, то воно зробить вас нелінивими, ані безплідними для пізна́ння Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.

9

But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

А хто цього не має, той сліпий, короткозо́рий, він забув про очи́щення з своїх давніх гріхів.

10

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

10

Тому́, браття, тим більше дба́йте чинити міцни́м своє покли́кання та ви́брання, бо, ро́блячи так, ви ніко́ли не спіткне́тесь.

11

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Бо щедро відкриється вам вхід до вічного Царства Господа нашого й Спасителя Ісуса Христа.

Remember These Things

Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

Тому то ніко́ли я не зане́дбую про це вам нагадувати, хоч ви й знаєте, і впе́внені в тепе́рішній правді.

13

Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

13

Бо вважаю я за справедливе, доки я в цій оселі, спону́кувати вас нага́дуванням,

14

Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

14

знаючи, що я незаба́ром повинен покинути оселю свою, як і Госпо́дь наш Ісус Христос об'явив мені.

15

Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

15

А я пильнуватиму, щоб ви й по моє́му відхо́ді за́вжди мали це в пам'яті.

We were Eyewitnesses

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Бо ми сповістили вам силу та прихід Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, не йдучи за хитро видуманими байка́ми, але бувши самови́дцями Його ве́личі.

17

For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Бо Він честь та славу прийняв від Бога Отця, як до Нього прийшов від величної слави голос такий: „Це Син Мій Улю́блений, що Його Я вподо́бав!“

18

And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

18

І цей голос, що з неба зійшов, ми чули, як із Ним були на святій горі.

19

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

19

І ми маємо слово пророче певніше. І ви добре робите, що на нього вважаєте, як на світильника, що світить у темному місці, аж поки зачне розвидня́тися, і світова́ зірни́ця засяє у ваших серцях,

20

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

20

бо ви знаєте перше про те, що жодне проро́цтво в Писа́нні від власного ви́яснення не залежить.

21

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Бо проро́цтва ніко́ли не було з волі лю́дської, а звіщали його святі Божі му́жі, прова́джені Духом Святим.
