Ihr Kinder, gehorcht euren Eltern! So erwartet es der Herr von euch, mit dem ihr verbunden seid.
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
»Ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter!« Dies ist das erste Gebot, das Gott mit einer Zusage verbunden hat:
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
»damit es dir gut geht und du lange auf dieser Erde lebst.«
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Ihr Väter, behandelt eure Kinder nicht ungerecht! Sonst fordert ihr nur ihren Zorn heraus. Eure Erziehung soll sie vielmehr in Wort und Tat zu Gott, dem Herrn, hinführen.
Slaves and Masters
Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

Ihr Sklaven, gehorcht euren irdischen Herren, ehrt und achtet sie! Dient ihnen so aufrichtig, als würdet ihr Christus selbst dienen.
Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
Tut dies nicht nur vor ihren Augen, um von ihnen anerkannt zu werden. Ihr sollt vielmehr als Diener von Christus bereitwillig und gern den Willen Gottes erfüllen.
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
Arbeitet mit Freude als Christen, die nicht den Menschen dienen, sondern dem Herrn.
Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
Denn ihr wisst ja: Der Herr wird jedem für seine guten Taten den verdienten Lohn geben, ganz gleich ob jemand Sklave ist oder frei.
And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
Auch ihr Herren sollt eure Sklaven behandeln, wie es Gott gefällt. Schüchtert sie nicht mit Drohungen ein. Denkt immer daran, dass ihr denselben Herrn im Himmel habt wie sie. Vor ihm sind alle Menschen gleich.
The Full Armor of God
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

Zum Schluss noch ein Wort an euch alle: Werdet stark, weil ihr mit dem Herrn verbunden seid! Lasst euch mit seiner Macht und Stärke erfüllen!
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Greift zu all den Waffen, die Gott für euch bereithält, zieht seine Rüstung an! Dann könnt ihr alle heimtückischen Anschläge des Teufels abwehren.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Denn wir kämpfen nicht gegen Menschen, sondern gegen Mächte und Gewalten des Bösen, die über diese gottlose Welt herrschen und im Unsichtbaren ihr unheilvolles Wesen treiben.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Darum nehmt all die Waffen, die Gott euch gibt! Nur gut gerüstet könnt ihr den Mächten des Bösen widerstehen, wenn es zum Kampf kommt. Nur so könnt ihr das Feld behaupten und den Sieg erringen.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Bleibt standhaft! Die Wahrheit ist euer Gürtel und Gerechtigkeit euer Brustpanzer.
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Macht euch bereit, die rettende Botschaft zu verkünden, dass Gott Frieden mit uns geschlossen hat.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Verteidigt euch mit dem Schild des Glaubens, an dem die Brandpfeile des Teufels wirkungslos abprallen.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Die Gewissheit, dass euch Jesus Christus gerettet hat, ist euer Helm, der euch schützt. Und nehmt das Wort Gottes. Es ist das Schwert, das euch sein Geist gibt.
Pray Continually
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Hört nie auf zu beten und zu bitten! Lasst euch dabei vom Heiligen Geist leiten. Bleibt wach und bereit. Bittet Gott inständig für alle Christen.
And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
Betet auch für mich, damit Gott mir zur rechten Zeit das rechte Wort gibt und ich überall das Geheimnis der rettenden Botschaft frei und offen verkünden kann.
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
Auch hier im Gefängnis will ich das tun. Betet darum, dass ich auch in Zukunft diese Aufgabe mutig erfülle, so wie Gott sie mir aufgetragen hat.

Ich möchte gern, dass ihr auch erfahrt, wie es um mich steht. Tychikus, mein lieber Bruder und treuer Mitarbeiter im Dienst für den Herrn, wird euch von mir berichten.
Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
Ich schicke ihn eben deshalb zu euch, damit ihr erfahrt, wie es um uns steht. Er soll euch ermutigen.
Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Euch, meinen lieben Brüdern und Schwestern, wünsche ich Frieden, Liebe und immer stärkeren Glauben. Das schenke euch Gott, unser Vater, und Jesus Christus, unser Herr.
