Boaz Redeems Ruth
Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:
Dann sagte er zu seinem Verwandten: »Noomi, die aus dem Land der Moabiter zurückgekehrt ist, will das Grundstück von Elimelech verkaufen, der ja zu unserer Sippe gehört hat.
And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
Ich wollte dich darauf aufmerksam machen und dir vorschlagen, dass du das Grundstück kaufst. Die führenden Männer von Bethlehem und die anderen Versammelten hier sollen Zeugen sein. Also überleg es dir und sag uns, ob du es erwerben willst, damit es im Besitz unserer Sippe bleibt. Du hast das Vorkaufsrecht, weil du der nächste Verwandte bist. Ich komme erst nach dir.« Der Mann antwortete: »Gut, ich will es tun.«
Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
Boas aber erwiderte: »Wenn du von Noomi das Grundstück erwirbst, musst du auch die Moabiterin Ruth heiraten, um mit ihr einen Sohn zu zeugen. Er soll als Nachkomme ihres verstorbenen Mannes gelten und eines Tages das betreffende Feld erben, damit es im Besitz dieser Familie bleibt.«
And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.
»Wenn das so ist«, meinte der andere, »trete ich meine Rechte auf das Grundstück an dich ab. Ich würde ja sonst etwas kaufen, was später nicht mehr meiner Familie gehört. Nimm du es!«
Now this was the manner in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbour: and this was a testimony in Israel.
Wer zu dieser Zeit in Israel sein Besitzrecht einem anderen übertrug oder einen Tauschhandel abschloss, zog als Zeichen dafür seinen Schuh aus und gab ihn dem anderen. Damit war der Handel rechtsgültig.
Therefore the kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off his shoe.
Als nun Ruths nächster Verwandter Boas das Grundstück überlassen wollte, zog er seinen Schuh aus und gab ihn Boas.
And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
Der wandte sich an die führenden Männer von Bethlehem und an die übrigen Versammelten: »Ihr seid heute meine Zeugen, dass ich von Noomi alles erworben habe, was ihrem Mann Elimelech und seinen Söhnen Kiljon und Machlon gehörte.
Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
Damit habe ich auch die Verpflichtung übernommen, Machlons Witwe, die Moabiterin Ruth, zu heiraten und einen Sohn zu zeugen, der als Nachkomme von Machlon gilt. So wird der alte Erbbesitz in der Familie des Verstorbenen bleiben. Sein Name soll in unserer Sippe und bei den Einwohnern von Bethlehem niemals vergessen werden. Dafür seid ihr Zeugen!«
And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The LORD make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
Die führenden Männer und alle anderen Zuhörer auf dem Versammlungsplatz bestätigten: »Ja, wir bezeugen es! Möge der HERR deine Frau so reich beschenken wie Rahel und Lea, von denen alle Israeliten abstammen. Wir wünschen dir, dass du immer mehr Ansehen gewinnst und dein Name hier in Bethlehem berühmt wird!
And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the LORD shall give thee of this young woman.
Der HERR möge dir und deiner Frau so viele Nachkommen schenken wie der Familie von Perez, dem Sohn Tamars und Judas.«
Boaz Marries Ruth
So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

So wurde Ruth Boas’ Frau, er schlief mit ihr, und der HERR ließ sie schwanger werden. Als sie einen Sohn zur Welt brachte,
And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
sagten die Frauen von Bethlehem zu Noomi: »Gelobt sei der HERR! Er hat dir mit diesem Kind jemanden gegeben, der für dich sorgen wird. Möge dein Enkel berühmt werden bei den Israeliten!
And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.
Er wird dir neue Lebensfreude schenken und sich um dich kümmern, wenn du alt geworden bist. Deine Schwiegertochter, die dich liebt, hat ihn geboren; sie ist mehr wert für dich als sieben Söhne!«
And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
Noomi nahm das Kind auf ihren Schoß als Zeichen dafür, dass sie es als ihr eigenes annahm.
And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
Ihre Nachbarinnen gaben ihm den Namen Obed (»Diener«) und erzählten überall: »Noomi hat einen Sohn bekommen!« Obed wurde der Vater von Isai, und dessen Sohn war König David.
