Saul's Overthrow and Death

Mittlerweile hatte zwischen den Philistern und den Israeliten auf dem Gilboagebirge die Schlacht begonnen. Die Israeliten versuchten zu fliehen, aber viele von ihnen kamen um.
And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Da flehte er seinen Waffenträger an: »Zieh dein Schwert und töte mich! Sonst bringen mich diese unbeschnittenen Heiden um und treiben ihren Spott mit mir.« Doch der Waffenträger weigerte sich. Er wagte es nicht, den König umzubringen. Da nahm Saul selbst sein Schwert und stürzte sich hinein.
And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
Als der Diener sah, dass sein Herr tot war, ließ auch er sich in sein Schwert fallen und starb zusammen mit dem König.
So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
So fielen an diesem Tag Saul, seine drei Söhne, sein Waffenträger und alle seine Männer.
The Philistines Possess the Towns

And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
Sie schlugen Saul den Kopf ab und zogen ihm die Rüstung aus. Beides zeigten sie durch Boten im ganzen Land herum und verkündeten allen Bewohnern und den Götzen die Nachricht vom Sieg.
