So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him, and Lot with him.

Abram kehrte in den Süden des Landes Kanaan zurück und mit ihm seine Frau und sein Neffe Lot. Ihren ganzen Besitz führten sie mit sich.
Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and in gold.
Abram war sehr reich. Er besaß viele Viehherden, dazu Silber und Gold.
He went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,
Sie blieben aber nicht im Süden, sondern zogen in Tagesmärschen nach Bethel — zu jener Stelle, wo sie ihr Zelt zuerst aufgeschlagen hatten, zwischen Bethel und Ai.
to the place of the altar which he had made there formerly; and there Abram called on the name of the LORD.
Bei dem Altar, den Abram damals aus Steinen erbaut hatte, betete er nun zum HERRN.
Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents.
Auch Abrams Neffe Lot, der sich ihm angeschlossen hatte, war zu einem reichen Mann geworden: Er besaß Schafe, Ziegen und Rinder und eine große Anzahl von Zelten für sein Gefolge.
And the land could not sustain them while dwelling together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together.
Darum gab es nicht genug Weideplätze für alle Viehherden. Sie konnten unmöglich zusammenbleiben,
And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. Now the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land.
zumal die Kanaaniter und die Perisiter noch im Land wohnten. Immer wieder gerieten Abrams und Lots Hirten aneinander.
So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.
Abram besprach das mit Lot: »Es soll kein böses Blut zwischen unseren Hirten geben! Wir sind doch Verwandte und sollten uns nicht streiten!
“Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me; if to the left, then I will go to the right; or if to the right, then I will go to the left.”
Es ist besser, wenn wir uns trennen. Das Land ist groß genug. Entscheide du, wo du dich niederlassen möchtest! Wenn du das Land auf der linken Seite wählst, gehe ich nach rechts. Wenn du lieber nach rechts ziehst, gehe ich nach links.«
Lot lifted up his eyes and saw all the valley of the Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere — this was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah — like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go to Zoar.
Lot betrachtete das Land genau und sah die fruchtbare Jordan-Ebene — überall reich bewässert, bis nach Zoar hin. Später veränderte sich die Landschaft, nachdem der HERR Sodom und Gomorra vernichtet hatte. Jetzt aber sah die Jordan-Ebene aus wie der Garten Eden oder das Nildelta in Ägypten.
So Lot chose for himself all the valley of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed eastward. Thus they separated from each other.
Darum wählte Lot diese Gegend. Er verabschiedete sich von Abram und machte sich auf den Weg nach Osten.
Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled in the cities of the valley, and moved his tents as far as Sodom.
Abram blieb im Land Kanaan, während Lot sich bei den Städten in der Jordan-Ebene aufhielt und mit seinen Zelten umherzog, bis er an die Stadt Sodom herankam.
Now the men of Sodom were wicked exceedingly and sinners against the LORD.
Die Menschen in dieser Stadt waren voller Bosheit und lebten in ständiger Auflehnung gegen den HERRN.
The LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;
Nachdem die beiden sich getrennt hatten, sagte der HERR zu Abram: »Schau dich nach allen Seiten um!
for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever.
Das ganze Land, alles, was du jetzt siehst, will ich dir und deinen Nachkommen geben — für immer!
“I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.
Ich will dir so viele Nachkommen schenken, dass sie unzählbar sind wie der Staub auf der Erde!
“Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.”
Mach dich auf den Weg und durchziehe das Land nach allen Richtungen, denn dir will ich es geben!«
