Absalom’s Conspiracy
Now it came about after this that Absalom provided for himself a chariot and horses and fifty men as runners before him.

Einige Zeit danach schaffte sich Abschalom einen Wagen und Pferde an sowie fünfzig Mann, die immer vor ihm herliefen.
Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way to the gate; and when any man had a suit to come to the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him and say, “From what city are you?” And he would say, “Your servant is from one of the tribes of Israel.”
Früh am Morgen stellte er sich neben den Weg zum Stadttor, und sooft jemand mit einer Streitsache zum König vor Gericht gehen wollte, sprach er ihn an und sagte: Aus welcher Stadt bist du? Wenn der dann antwortete: Dein Knecht ist aus einem der Stämme Israels!,
Then Absalom would say to him, “See, your claims are good and right, but no man listens to you on the part of the king.”
sagte Abschalom zu ihm: Was du sagst, ist ja gut und recht, aber beim König gibt es niemand, der dich anhört.
Moreover, Absalom would say, “Oh that one would appoint me judge in the land, then every man who has any suit or cause could come to me and I would give him justice.”
Und Abschalom fügte hinzu: Würde mich doch jemand zum Richter im Land machen, damit jeder, der einen Streit oder eine Rechtssache hat, zu mir kommt; ich würde ihm Recht verschaffen.
And when a man came near to prostrate himself before him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.
Ging dann einer auf ihn zu, um vor ihm niederzufallen, dann streckte er die Hand aus, hielt ihn fest und küsste ihn.
In this manner Absalom dealt with all Israel who came to the king for judgment; so Absalom stole away the hearts of the men of Israel.
So machte es Abschalom bei allen Israeliten, die zum König vor Gericht gehen wollten, und so stahl er das Herz der Israeliten.
Now it came about at the end of forty years that Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow which I have vowed to the LORD, in Hebron.
Nach vier Jahren sagte Abschalom zum König: Ich möchte nach Hebron gehen, um ein Gelübde zu erfüllen, das ich dem HERRN abgelegt habe.
“For your servant vowed a vow while I was living at Geshur in Aram, saying, ‘If the LORD shall indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD.’”
Denn dein Knecht hat bei seinem Aufenthalt in Geschur in Aram das Gelübde gemacht: Wenn der HERR mich wirklich nach Jerusalem zurückkehren lässt, dann will ich für den HERRN einen Gottesdienst feiern.
The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron.
Der König antwortete ihm: Geh in Frieden! Da brach Abschalom auf und ging nach Hebron.
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron.’”
Er schickte Boten an alle Stämme Israels und ließ ihnen sagen: Wenn ihr den Klang des Widderhorns hört, dann sollt ihr rufen: Abschalom ist König in Hebron.
Then two hundred men went with Absalom from Jerusalem, who were invited and went innocently, and they did not know anything.
Zweihundert Männer aus Jerusalem waren mit Abschalom gegangen; er hatte sie eingeladen und sie waren arglos mit ihm gezogen, ohne von der ganzen Sache etwas zu ahnen.
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom.
Als er seine Opfer darbrachte, ließ Abschalom auch den Giloniter Ahitofel, den Berater Davids, aus seiner Heimatstadt Gilo kommen. So wurde die Verschwörung immer größer und immer mehr Leute schlossen sich Abschalom an.
David Flees Jerusalem
Then a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel are with Absalom.”
Als ein Bote kam und David meldete: Das Herz der Israeliten hat sich Abschalom zugewandt!,
David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise and let us flee, for otherwise none of us will escape from Absalom. Go in haste, or he will overtake us quickly and bring down calamity on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”
sagte David zu allen seinen Dienern, die bei ihm in Jerusalem waren: Auf, wir müssen fliehen, denn für uns gibt es keine Rettung vor Abschalom. Beeilt euch mit dem Aufbruch, sonst kommt er und holt uns ein, bringt Unglück über uns und schlägt die Stadt mit scharfem Schwert.
Then the king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses.”
Die Diener des Königs sagten zu ihm: Ganz wie der Herr und König sich entscheidet. Hier sind deine Knechte.
So the king went out and all his household with him. But the king left ten concubines to keep the house.
So zog der König fort und sein ganzes Haus folgte ihm. Nur die zehn Nebenfrauen ließ der König zurück; sie sollten das Haus bewachen.
The king went out and all the people with him, and they stopped at the last house.
Als der König mit den Leuten, die ihm folgten, fortzog, blieben sie beim letzten Haus stehen
Now all his servants passed on beside him, all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had come with him from Gath, passed on before the king.
und alle seine Diener zogen an ihm vorüber, dazu alle Kereter und Peleter und alle Gatiter, jene sechshundert Mann, die ihm aus Gat gefolgt waren; sie alle zogen vor dem König vorüber.
Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why will you also go with us? Return and remain with the king, for you are a foreigner and also an exile; return to your own place.
Da sagte der König zu Ittai aus Gat: Warum willst auch du mit uns gehen? Kehr um und bleib beim König! Denn du bist ein Ausländer und aus deiner Heimat verbannt.
“You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander with us, while I go where I will? Return and take back your brothers; mercy and truth be with you.”
Erst gestern bist du gekommen — und schon heute sollte ich dich aufjagen, um mit uns zu gehen? Ich gehe, wohin ich eben gehe. Du aber kehr um und bring deine Brüder in Liebe und Treue zurück!
But Ittai answered the king and said, “As the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely wherever my lord the king may be, whether for death or for life, there also your servant will be.”
Doch Ittai erwiderte dem König: So wahr der HERR lebt und so wahr mein Herr, der König, lebt: Nur an dem Ort, wo mein Herr, der König, ist, dort wird auch dein Diener sein, sei es um zu leben oder um zu sterben.
Therefore David said to Ittai, “Go and pass over.” So Ittai the Gittite passed over with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.
Da sagte David zu Ittai: Dann geh und zieh vorüber! Und der Gatiter zog vorüber und alle seine Männer mitsamt den Kleinen, die bei ihm waren.
While all the country was weeping with a loud voice, all the people passed over. The king also passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness.
Das ganze Land weinte laut, als die Leute vorüberzogen. Dann überschritt der König den Bach Kidron und alle zogen weiter auf dem Weg zur Steppe.
Now behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him carrying the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar came up until all the people had finished passing from the city.
Auch Zadok und all die Leviten um ihn, die die Bundeslade Gottes trugen, waren dabei. Sie stellten die Lade Gottes nieder und Abjatar brachte Opfer dar, bis alle Leute aus der Stadt vollzählig vorübergezogen waren.
The king said to Zadok, “Return the ark of God to the city. If I find favor in the sight of the LORD, then He will bring me back again and show me both it and His habitation.
Der König sagte zu Zadok: Bring die Lade Gottes in die Stadt zurück! Wenn ich vor den Augen des HERRN Gnade finde, dann wird er mich zurückführen und mich die Lade und ihre Stätte wiedersehen lassen.
“But if He should say thus, ‘I have no delight in you,’ behold, here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him.”
Wenn er aber sagt: Ich habe an dir keinen Gefallen!, gut, dann mag er mit mir machen, was ihm gefällt.
The king said also to Zadok the priest, “Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace and your two sons with you, your son Ahimaaz and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
Und der König sagte zu dem Priester Zadok: Siehst du das ein? Kehr in Frieden in die Stadt zurück, ebenso dein Sohn Ahimaaz und Abjatars Sohn Jonatan, eure beiden Söhne.
“See, I am going to wait at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”
Seht: Ich werde an den Übergängen zur Steppe warten, bis von euch eine Nachricht kommt, die mir Bescheid gibt.
Therefore Zadok and Abiathar returned the ark of God to Jerusalem and remained there.
Darauf brachten Zadok und Abjatar die Lade Gottes nach Jerusalem zurück und blieben dort.
And David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went, and his head was covered and he walked barefoot. Then all the people who were with him each covered his head and went up weeping as they went.
David stieg weinend und mit verhülltem Haupte den Ölberg hinauf; er ging barfuß und alle Leute, die bei ihm waren, verhüllten ihr Haupt und zogen weinend hinauf.
Now someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O LORD, I pray, make the counsel of Ahithophel foolishness.”
Man hatte David die Nachricht gebracht, dass auch Ahitofel unter den Verschwörern auf Seiten Abschaloms war. Da sagte David: HERR, vereitle den Rat Ahitofels!
It happened as David was coming to the summit, where God was worshiped, that behold, Hushai the Archite met him with his coat torn and dust on his head.
Als David auf den Gipfel des Berges kam, auf dem man sich vor Gott niederwirft, kam ihm plötzlich der Arkiter Huschai entgegen, mit zerrissenen Kleidern und Erde auf dem Haupt.
David said to him, “If you pass over with me, then you will be a burden to me.
David sagte zu ihm: Wenn du mit mir ziehst, wärest du mir nur eine Last.
“But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father’s servant in time past, so I will now be your servant,’ then you can thwart the counsel of Ahithophel for me.
Wenn du aber in die Stadt zurückkehrst und zu Abschalom sagst: Ich bin dein Knecht, mein König, ich war früher der Knecht deines Vaters, jetzt aber will ich dein Knecht sein!, dann kannst du für mich den Rat Ahitofels durchkreuzen.
“Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So it shall be that whatever you hear from the king’s house, you shall report to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
Die Priester Zadok und Abjatar werden auch dort bei dir sein und du kannst alles, was du aus dem Haus des Königs hörst, den Priestern Zadok und Abjatar berichten.
“Behold their two sons are with them there, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son; and by them you shall send me everything that you hear.”
Sie haben dort auch ihre beiden Söhne bei sich, Zadok den Ahimaaz und Abjatar den Jonatan; durch sie könnt ihr mir alles übermitteln, was ihr hört.
