that the LORD appeared to Solomon a second time, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.

The LORD said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built by putting My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.
Er sagte zu Salomo: »Ich habe dein Flehen erhört. Diesen Tempel, den du gebaut hast, habe ich als einen heiligen Ort erwählt, an dem ich selbst für immer wohnen will. Mein Blick wird stets auf ihm ruhen, denn mein Herz hängt an ihm.
“As for you, if you will walk before Me as your father David walked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, doing according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My ordinances,
Und du, Salomo, lebe wie dein Vater David, aufrichtig und ohne Falschheit! Befolge alles, was ich dir befohlen habe! Lebe nach meinen Geboten und achte auf meine Weisungen!
then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, just as I promised to your father David, saying, ‘You shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.’
Dann wird immer ein Nachkomme von David auf dem Thron Israels sitzen, so wie ich es deinem Vater versprochen habe. Ich selbst werde dein Königtum für alle Zeiten sichern.
“But if you or your sons indeed turn away from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,
Doch wenn ihr oder eure Nachkommen mir den Rücken kehrt und meine Gebote und Weisungen nicht mehr befolgt, wenn ihr anderen Göttern nachlauft, sie anbetet und ihnen dient,
then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will cast out of My sight. So Israel will become a proverb and a byword among all peoples.
dann werde ich euch aus diesem Land vertreiben, das ich euch gegeben habe. Israels Unglück wird sprichwörtlich sein. Alle Völker werden euch verspotten. Auch von dem Tempel, den ich jetzt zu einer heiligen Stätte erklärt habe, werde ich mich wieder abwenden.
“And this house will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will be astonished and hiss and say, ‘Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?’
Nur ein Trümmerhaufen wird von ihm übrig bleiben. Wer an ihm vorübergeht, wird verächtlich lachen und zugleich entsetzt sein über das, was er sieht. Erstaunt wird er fragen: ›Warum hat der HERR dieses Land und diesen Tempel so furchtbar zerstört?‹
“And they will say, ‘Because they forsook the LORD their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and adopted other gods and worshiped them and served them, therefore the LORD has brought all this adversity on them.’”
Und man wird ihm antworten: ›Weil die Israeliten den HERRN, ihren Gott, verlassen haben. Er hat ihre Vorfahren aus Ägypten herausgeführt, und doch sind sie fremden Göttern nachgelaufen, haben sie angebetet und ihnen gedient. Darum hat der HERR nun dieses Unglück über sie hereinbrechen lassen.‹«
Cities Given to Hiram
It came about at the end of twenty years in which Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the LORD and the king’s house
Salomo hatte zwanzig Jahre lang am Tempel des HERRN und am Königspalast gebaut. König Hiram von Tyrus lieferte ihm das nötige Baumaterial: Zedern- und Zypressenholz und Gold, so viel er brauchte. Als die Bauarbeiten beendet waren, gab Salomo Hiram als Gegenleistung zwanzig Städte in Galiläa.
So Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him, and they did not please him.
König Hiram kam von Tyrus nach Galiläa, um sich die Städte anzusehen. Aber sie gefielen ihm nicht.
He said, “What are these cities which you have given me, my brother?” So they were called the land of Cabul to this day.
Deshalb stellte er Salomo zur Rede: »Mein lieber Freund, was für Städte hast du mir da gegeben! Sie sind überhaupt nichts wert!« Darum heißt das Gebiet dieser zwanzig Städte heute noch »die Gegend Kabul«, das bedeutet »nichts wert«.
And Hiram sent to the king 120 talents of gold.
Hiram hatte dem König von Israel immerhin über vier Tonnen Gold geliefert.
Now this is the account of the forced labor which King Solomon levied to build the house of the LORD, his own house, the Millo, the wall of Jerusalem, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.
Salomo setzte bei allen Bauarbeiten Fronarbeiter ein: beim Tempel, bei seinem Palast, beim Ausbau der Stadtmauer und der Verteidigungsanlagen Jerusalems. Sie mussten ihm die Städte Hazor, Megiddo und Geser ausbauen.
For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
Die Stadt Geser hatte der Pharao, König von Ägypten, auf einem seiner Feldzüge eingenommen, ihre Einwohner, die Kanaaniter, umgebracht und schließlich alles niedergebrannt. Das Gebiet hatte er seiner Tochter als Mitgift in die Ehe gegeben, als Salomo sie heiratete.
So Solomon rebuilt Gezer and the lower Beth-horon

and Baalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the land of Judah,

and all the storage cities which Solomon had, even the cities for his chariots and the cities for his horsemen, and all that it pleased Solomon to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land under his rule.
Salomos Fronarbeiter mussten Städte bauen, in denen Vorratshallen, Hallen für die Streitwagen und Pferdeställe untergebracht wurden. Alles, was Salomo bauen wollte, sei es in Jerusalem, im Libanon oder sonst irgendwo in seinem Reich, ließ er durch Fronarbeiter errichten.
As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel,
Sie waren keine Israeliten, sondern die Nachkommen der Amoriter, Hetiter, Perisiter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter, die früher das Land Israel bewohnt hatten. But Solomon did not make slaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariot commanders, and his horsemen.
Die Israeliten selbst aber blieben davon verschont. Sie dienten Salomo als Beamte und Soldaten, als seine Offiziere und Befehlshaber über die Streitwagen und Reitertruppen.
These were the chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people doing the work.
Salomo setzte 550 Oberaufseher ein. Sie unterstanden den Bezirksverwaltern und sollten darauf achten, dass die Fronarbeiter auf Salomos Bauten gute Arbeit leisteten.
As soon as Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, then he built the Millo.
Als die Tochter des Pharaos aus dem alten Stadtkern Jerusalems in den Palast gezogen war, den Salomo für sie errichtet hatte, begann der König mit dem Ausbau der Verteidigungsanlagen Jerusalems.
Now three times in a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to the LORD, burning incense with them on the altar which was before the LORD. So he finished the house.

King Solomon also built a fleet of ships in Ezion-geber, which is near Eloth on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

And Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, sailors who knew the sea, along with the servants of Solomon.
