Jehu Reigns over Israel
Now Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, “Gird up your loins, and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramoth-gilead.

Eines Tages rief Elisa einen Prophetenjünger zu sich und befahl ihm: »Mach dich sofort auf nach Ramot in Gilead! Nimm diesen Ölkrug mit!
“When you arrive there, search out Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in and bid him arise from among his brothers, and bring him to an inner room.
In Ramot sollst du einen gewissen Jehu suchen. Er ist ein Sohn von Joschafat und Enkel von Nimschi. Ruf ihn von den anderen Heerführern weg und geh mit ihm in einen Raum, wo ihr ungestört miteinander reden könnt!
“Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee and do not wait.”
Dort hol deinen Ölkrug hervor und gieß Jehu das Öl über den Kopf. Sag ihm: ›So spricht der HERR: Ich habe dich zum König über Israel gesalbt.‹ Danach darfst du keinen Augenblick länger dortbleiben! Du musst sofort fliehen!«
So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth-gilead.
Der Prophetenjünger, der ein Diener von Elisa war, machte sich auf den Weg nach Ramot in Gilead.
When he came, behold, the captains of the army were sitting, and he said, “I have a word for you, O captain.” And Jehu said, “For which one of us?” And he said, “For you, O captain.”
Als er dort ankam, saßen gerade alle Heerführer zusammen. Er ging zu ihnen und sagte: »Ich muss mit dem Heerführer reden!« »Mit welchem von uns?«, fragte Jehu den Mann, und er antwortete: »Mit dir!«
He arose and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
Da stand Jehu auf und ging mit ihm ins Haus. Der Prophet goss das Öl über Jehus Kopf und sagte: »So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Ich habe dich zum König über mein Volk Israel gesalbt.
‘You shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
Du sollst alle Nachkommen von König Ahab, deinem Herrn, umbringen, denn sie haben meine Diener, die Propheten, ermordet! So räche ich mich an ihnen und an Isebel. Sie hat das Leben von so vielen Menschen auf dem Gewissen, die mir gedient haben.
‘For the whole house of Ahab shall perish, and I will cut off from Ahab every male person both bond and free in Israel.
Keiner aus Ahabs Familie soll überleben. In ganz Israel werde ich alle männlichen Nachkommen von ihm ausrotten, ob jung oder alt.
‘I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah.
Es wird dem Geschlecht Ahabs ergehen wie den Geschlechtern Jerobeams, des Sohnes von Nebat, und Baschas, des Sohnes von Ahija.
‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel in the territory of Jezreel, and none shall bury her.’” Then he opened the door and fled.
Isebel wird nicht begraben, sondern die Hunde werden sie fressen auf einem Grundstück in Jesreel.« Nach diesen Worten verließ der Prophetenjünger das Haus und floh.
Now Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad fellow come to you?” And he said to them, “You know very well the man and his talk.”
Als Jehu wieder herauskam und sich zu den anderen Heerführern setzte, fragten sie ihn: »Ist alles in Ordnung? Was wollte dieser Verrückte von dir?« Jehu antwortete ausweichend: »Ach, ihr kennt doch diese Sorte Menschen und ihr Geschwätz!«
They said, “It is a lie, tell us now.” And he said, “Thus and thus he said to me, ‘Thus says the LORD, “I have anointed you king over Israel.”’”
Doch sie gaben sich nicht zufrieden: »Mach uns doch nichts vor! Was wollte er? Los, heraus mit der Sprache!« Schließlich berichtete Jehu, was der Mann ihm gesagt hatte und dass er ihn auf Befehl des HERRN zum König über Israel gesalbt hatte.
Then they hurried and each man took his garment and placed it under him on the bare steps, and blew the trumpet, saying, “Jehu is king!”
Da zogen die Heerführer schnell ihre Mäntel aus und legten sie vor Jehu als Teppich auf die Treppe. Dann bliesen sie in das Signalhorn und riefen: »Es lebe Jehu, unser König!«
Jehoram (Joram) Is Assassinated
So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. Now Joram with all Israel was defending Ramoth-gilead against Hazael king of Aram,
Sofort plante Jehu, König Joram zu stürzen. Joram hatte mit seinem ganzen Heer Ramot in Gilead gegen König Hasaël von Syrien verteidigt.
but King Joram had returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Aram. So Jehu said, “If this is your mind, then let no one escape or leave the city to go tell it in Jezreel.”
Die Syrer hatten Joram im Kampf verwundet, deshalb war er wieder nach Jesreel zurückgekehrt, um sich dort von seinen Verletzungen zu erholen. Nun sagte Jehu zu den anderen Heerführern: »Wenn ihr wirklich hinter mir steht, dann passt auf, dass keiner die Stadt verlassen kann! Sonst läuft jemand nach Jesreel und verrät uns.«
Then Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was lying there. Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram.
Dann stieg er auf seinen Wagen und jagte mit ein paar Streitwagen zu König Joram nach Jesreel. In diesen Tagen war König Ahasja von Juda gerade zu Besuch bei Joram.
Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, “I see a company.” And Joram said, “Take a horseman and send him to meet them and let him say, ‘Is it peace?’”
Der Wächter auf dem Turm von Jesreel sah Jehus Truppe auf die Stadt zukommen und meldete es dem König. Joram befahl: »Schick ihnen einen Reiter entgegen! Er soll sie fragen, ob sie in friedlicher Absicht kommen.«
So a horseman went to meet him and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu said, “What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me.” And the watchman reported, “The messenger came to them, but he did not return.”
Der Soldat ritt der Truppe entgegen und rief: »Der König lässt fragen, ob ihr in friedlicher Absicht kommt.« »Was geht dich das an?«, entgegnete Jehu. »Los, schließ dich meinen Leuten an!« Der Wächter in Jesreel meldete dem König: »Der Bote ist zu der Schar gestoßen, aber er kehrt nicht mehr zurück!«
Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said, “Thus says the king, ‘Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered, “What have you to do with peace? Turn behind me.”
Da wurde ein zweiter Reiter zu Jehu geschickt. Als er die Truppe erreicht hatte, sagte auch er zu Jehu: »Der König lässt fragen, ob ihr in friedlicher Absicht kommt.« »Was geht dich das an?«, fragte Jehu wieder. »Los, schließ dich meinen Leuten an!«
The watchman reported, “He came even to them, and he did not return; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”
Und wieder meldete der Wächter: »Er ist zu ihnen gestoßen, aber er kehrt nicht mehr zurück! Der Anführer der Truppe kann nur Jehu sein, der Enkel von Nimschi, denn er fährt wie ein Verrückter!«
Then Joram said, “Get ready.” And they made his chariot ready. Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out to meet Jehu and found him in the property of Naboth the Jezreelite.
Da ließ König Joram sofort seinen Wagen anspannen und fuhr Jehu selbst entgegen. König Ahasja von Juda begleitete ihn auf seinem eigenen Wagen. Genau auf dem Grundstück, das Nabot aus Jesreel gehört hatte, trafen die beiden Könige mit Jehu zusammen.
When Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” And he answered, “What peace, so long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?”
Sobald Joram seinen Heerführer sah, rief er ihm zu: »Kommst du in friedlicher Absicht, Jehu?« Jehu schrie zurück: »Wie kann Friede sein, solange deine Mutter Isebel fremden Götzen nachläuft und sich ständig mit Zauberei abgibt!«
So Joram reined about and fled and said to Ahaziah, “There is treachery, O Ahaziah!”
Da rief Joram Ahasja zu: »Das ist ein Aufstand, Ahasja!« Er kehrte um und floh.
And Jehu drew his bow with his full strength and shot Joram between his arms; and the arrow went through his heart and he sank in his chariot.
Doch Jehu nahm seinen Bogen, zielte und traf Joram zwischen die Schulterblätter. Der Pfeil drang dem König ins Herz, so dass er auf der Stelle tot zusammenbrach.
Then Jehu said to Bidkar his officer, “Take him up and cast him into the property of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite, for I remember when you and I were riding together after Ahab his father, that the LORD laid this oracle against him:
Jehu sagte zu Bidkar, dem Offizier bei ihm im Wagen: »Nimm ihn vom Wagen und wirf ihn auf Nabots Grundstück! Erinnerst du dich, wie wir beide einmal in einem zweispännigen Wagen hinter Jorams Vater Ahab herfuhren? Damals ließ ihm der HERR durch einen Propheten sagen:
‘Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will repay you in this property,’ says the LORD. Now then, take and cast him into the property, according to the word of the LORD.”
›Ich habe genau gesehen, wie du gestern Nabot und seine Söhne hast umbringen lassen. Auf dem Grundstück, das Nabot gehörte, werde ich, der HERR, dich für die Morde bestrafen.‹ Wirf ihn also auf dieses Grundstück, und so erfüllt sich, was der HERR vorausgesagt hat!«
Jehu Assassinates Ahaziah
When Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu pursued him and said, “Shoot him too, in the chariot.” So they shot him at the ascent of Gur, which is at Ibleam. But he fled to Megiddo and died there.
Als König Ahasja von Juda sah, was geschehen war, floh er in Richtung Bet-Gan. Jehu jagte ihm nach und befahl seinen Soldaten: »Schießt auch auf ihn!« Bei der Steigung von Gur in der Nähe von Jibleam wurde Ahasja getroffen, floh aber weiter. Er kam noch bis nach Megiddo, wo er schließlich starb.
Then his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in his grave with his fathers in the city of David.
Seine Diener brachten den Leichnam auf einem Wagen nach Jerusalem und begruben ihn dort in der »Stadt Davids«, einem Stadtteil von Jerusalem, im Grab der Königsfamilie.
Now in the eleventh year of Joram, the son of Ahab, Ahaziah became king over Judah.
Ahasja war im 11. Regierungsjahr Jorams, des Sohnes von Ahab, König über Juda geworden.
When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out the window.
Danach fuhr Jehu nach Jesreel hinein. Isebel, die von seinem Kommen wusste, schminkte sich die Augen, frisierte ihr Haar und lehnte sich aus dem Fenster.
As Jehu entered the gate, she said, “Is it well, Zimri, your master’s murderer?”
Als Jehu zum Palasttor hereinkam, rief sie hinunter: »Wie fühlt man sich denn so als Königsmörder? Du bist wie Simri, der seinen Herrn umgebracht hat!«
Then he lifted up his face to the window and said, “Who is on my side? Who?” And two or three officials looked down at him.
Jehu sah hinauf und rief: »Wer im Palast hält zu mir?« Zwei oder drei Hofbeamte schauten heraus.
Jezebel Is Slain
He said, “Throw her down.” So they threw her down, and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her under foot.
»Werft sie herunter!«, befahl Jehu ihnen. Da stürzten sie Isebel aus dem Fenster. Bei ihrem Aufprall spritzte das Blut an die Mauer und an die Pferde. Jehu fuhr über ihre Leiche hinweg,
When he came in, he ate and drank; and he said, “See now to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king’s daughter.”
ging in den Palast und stillte erst einmal seinen Hunger und Durst. Dann befahl er: »Seht nach dieser von Gott verfluchten Frau und beerdigt sie! Trotz allem war Isebel die Tochter eines Königs.«
They went to bury her, but they found nothing more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.
Doch die Diener, die sie begraben wollten, fanden von ihr nur noch den Schädel, die Füße und die Hände.
Therefore they returned and told him. And he said, “This is the word of the LORD, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ‘In the property of Jezreel the dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel;
Sie kamen zu Jehu zurück und meldeten es ihm. Da sagte er: »Nun ist alles so eingetroffen, wie der HERR es durch seinen Diener Elia aus Tischbe angekündigt hat: ›Auf einem Grundstück in Jesreel sollen die Hunde Isebels Fleisch fressen.
