Zu dieser Zeit traten die beiden Propheten Haggai und Sacharja, der Enkel von Iddo, auf. Im Auftrag des Gottes Israels sprachen sie den Juden in Juda und Jerusalem Mut zu.
then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel and Jeshua the son of Jozadak arose and began to rebuild the house of God which is in Jerusalem; and the prophets of God were with them supporting them.
Da beschlossen Serubbabel, der Sohn von Schealtiël, und Jeschua, der Sohn von Jozadak, den Bau des Tempels in Jerusalem wieder aufzunehmen. Die beiden Propheten unterstützten sie dabei.
At that time Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and their colleagues came to them and spoke to them thus, “Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?”
Doch kaum hatten sie begonnen, kamen auch schon Tattenai, der Statthalter über das Gebiet westlich des Euphrat, und Schetar-Bosnai mit ihren Beratern nach Jerusalem. Sie stellten die Männer zur Rede: »Wer hat euch erlaubt, den Tempel wieder aufzubauen und Balken dafür zu zimmern?
Then we told them accordingly what the names of the men were who were reconstructing this building.
Wie heißen die Männer, die für das alles verantwortlich sind?«
But the eye of their God was on the elders of the Jews, and they did not stop them until a report could come to Darius, and then a written reply be returned concerning it.
Aber Gott sorgte dafür, dass nichts gegen die Führer von Juda unternommen wurde und die Bauarbeiten weitergehen konnten, bis die Sache vor König Darius kommen und er eine Entscheidung treffen würde.
Adversaries Write to Darius
This is the copy of the letter which Tattenai, the governor of the province beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai and his colleagues the officials, who were beyond the River, sent to Darius the king.
Tattenai, der Statthalter über das Gebiet westlich des Euphrat, und Schetar-Bosnai mit ihren Beratern und Beamten erstatteten König Darius Bericht. Ihr Brief an ihn lautete: »An König Darius: Möge es dir wohl ergehen!
“Let it be known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is being built with huge stones, and beams are being laid in the walls; and this work is going on with great care and is succeeding in their hands.
Wir haben dir Folgendes mitzuteilen: Als wir in der Provinz Juda waren, sahen wir, dass der Tempel des großen Gottes in Jerusalem wieder aufgebaut wird. Die Einwohner errichten Mauern aus großen Quadersteinen und ziehen Balken in die Wände ein. Sie arbeiten zielstrebig und kommen schnell voran.
“Then we asked those elders and said to them thus, ‘Who issued you a decree to rebuild this temple and to finish this structure?’
Wir fragten die Anführer, wer ihnen das erlaubt habe.
“We also asked them their names so as to inform you, and that we might write down the names of the men who were at their head.
Wir wollten auch die Namen der verantwortlichen Männer wissen, um sie für dich aufzuschreiben.
“Thus they answered us, saying, ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth and are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.
Sie gaben uns zur Antwort: ›Wir dienen dem Gott, der über Himmel und Erde regiert, und bauen seinen Tempel wieder auf, der vor vielen Jahren hier stand. Ein großer König von Israel hatte ihn damals errichtet.
‘But because our fathers had provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.
Aber weil sich unsere Vorfahren gegen den Gott des Himmels auflehnten, wurde er zornig und gab sie in die Gewalt von Nebukadnezar, dem König von Babylonien. Der zerstörte den Tempel und verschleppte das Volk nach Babylonien.
‘However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.
Als jedoch Kyrus König wurde, befahl er schon in seinem ersten Regierungsjahr, den Tempel Gottes wieder aufzubauen.
‘Also the gold and silver utensils of the house of God which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, and brought them to the temple of Babylon, these King Cyrus took from the temple of Babylon and they were given to one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor.
Kyrus gab auch die goldenen und silbernen Gefäße und Werkzeuge zurück, die Nebukadnezar aus dem Tempel in Jerusalem geraubt und nach Babylon in den Tempel seines Gottes gebracht hatte. Kyrus händigte sie einem Mann namens Scheschbazar aus, den er zum Statthalter von Juda ernannte.
‘He said to him, “Take these utensils, go and deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem and let the house of God be rebuilt in its place.”
Er befahl ihm, diese Gegenstände wieder nach Jerusalem zu bringen und den Tempel an seinem früheren Platz zu errichten.
‘Then that Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem; and from then until now it has been under construction and it is not yet completed.’
Darauf kam Scheschbazar nach Jerusalem und legte das Fundament für den Tempel. Seit damals wird an diesem Haus gebaut, es ist aber immer noch nicht fertig.‹
“Now if it pleases the king, let a search be conducted in the king’s treasure house, which is there in Babylon, if it be that a decree was issued by King Cyrus to rebuild this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send to us his decision concerning this matter.”
Nun möchten wir dir, König Darius, Folgendes vorschlagen: Lass im königlichen Archiv in Babylon nachforschen, ob es tatsächlich ein Schriftstück mit dem Befehl von Kyrus gibt, den Tempel in Jerusalem wieder aufzubauen. Wir bitten dich, uns deine Entscheidung mitzuteilen.«
