Job: What Can I Say?

Then the LORD said to Job,

1

І Господь Бог у відповідь Йову сказав:

2

“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty?
Let him who reproves God answer it.”

Чи буде хтось ухилятися від суду Всесильного, хіба ж той, хто звинувачує Бога, не буде відповідати за це?

Then Job answered the LORD and said,

Підхопивши, Йов каже Господу:

4

“Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You?
I lay my hand on my mouth.

4

Як то ще я суджуся, будучи настановлений, і оскаржую Господа, слухаючи це, будучи нічим? Яку ж відповідь я на це дам? Я покладу руку на мої уста.

5

“Once I have spoken, and I will not answer;
Even twice, and I will add nothing more.”

Я раз заговорив, а вдруге не продовжуватиму!

God Questions Job

Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm and said,

А далі Господь, підхопивши, сказав Йовові з хмари:

“Now gird up your loins like a man;
I will ask you, and you instruct Me.

7

Ні, але підв’яжи, як муж, твої стегна, якщо заговорив, а Я запитаю тебе, ти ж Мені відповіси.

8

“Will you really annul My judgment?
Will you condemn Me that you may be justified?

Не відкидай Мого суду. Чи тобі здається, що Я з тобою повівся інакше, ніж щоб ти виявився праведним?

9

“Or do you have an arm like God,
And can you thunder with a voice like His?

9

Хіба твоя рука є такою, як Господня, чи голос, як Його громовиця?

10

“Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity,
And clothe yourself with honor and majesty.

10

Візьми ж висоту і силу, зодягнися в славу і честь.

11

“Pour out the overflowings of your anger,
And look on everyone who is proud, and make him low.

11

Пошли ангелів з гнівом і впокори кожного зарозумілого,

12

“Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him,
And tread down the wicked where they stand.

знищ гордовитого, а безбожного відразу вигуби,

13

“Hide them in the dust together;
Bind them in the hidden place.

13

сховай же ззовні в землі разом, а їхні обличчя наповни безчестям!

14

“Then I will also confess to you,
That your own right hand can save you.

Бо тоді визнаю, що твоя правиця спроможна спасти.

God’s Power Shown in Creatures

“Behold now, Behemoth, which I made as well as you;
He eats grass like an ox.

Але гляди на звірів, які в тебе. Вони їдять траву, подібно до волів.

16

“Behold now, his strength in his loins
And his power in the muscles of his belly.

16

Ось сила його в стегнах, а міць — у пупку живота.

17

“He bends his tail like a cedar;
The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

Він поставив хвіст, наче кипарис, а його сухожилля сплетене.

18

“His bones are tubes of bronze;
His limbs are like bars of iron.

Його ребра — мідні ребра, а його хребет — з литого заліза.

19

“He is the first of the ways of God;
Let his maker bring near his sword.

19

Це є початок Господнього творіння, воно зроблене, щоби було висміяне Його ангелами.

20

“Surely the mountains bring him food,
And all the beasts of the field play there.

“Under the lotus plants he lies down,
In the covert of the reeds and the marsh.

“The lotus plants cover him with shade;
The willows of the brook surround him.

“If a river rages, he is not alarmed;
He is confident, though the Jordan rushes to his mouth.

“Can anyone capture him when he is on watch,
With barbs can anyone pierce his nose?
