Water in the Rock
Then all the congregation of the sons of Israel journeyed by stages from the wilderness of Sin, according to the command of the LORD, and camped at Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.

Die Israeliten brachen aus der Wüste Sin auf und zogen von einem Lagerplatz zum nächsten, wie der HERR es ihnen befahl. Als sie in Refidim ihr Lager aufschlugen, fanden sie kein Trinkwasser.
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water that we may drink.” And Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?”
Da machten sie Mose bittere Vorwürfe und verlangten: »Gib uns Wasser zum Trinken!« Mose erwiderte: »Warum beschwert ihr euch bei mir? Warum stellt ihr den HERRN auf die Probe?«
But the people thirsted there for water; and they grumbled against Moses and said, “Why, now, have you brought us up from Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”
Aber die Israeliten quälte der Durst, und sie klagten Mose an: »Warum hast du uns nur aus Ägypten herausgeholt? Willst du uns mit unseren Kindern und all unseren Herden hier verdursten lassen?«
So Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, “What shall I do to this people? A little more and they will stone me.”
Da rief Mose zum HERRN: »Was soll ich jetzt mit diesem Volk tun? Es fehlt nicht viel, und sie steinigen mich!«
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Pass before the people and take with you some of the elders of Israel; and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile, and go.
Der HERR antwortete: »Ruf einige von den Sippenoberhäuptern Israels und geh mit ihnen dem Volk voran! Nimm dabei den Stab in die Hand, mit dem du in den Nil geschlagen hast!
“Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
Du wirst sehen, dass ich dich am Berg Horeb erwarte und dort vor dir auf einem Felsen stehe. Schlag mit dem Stab an diesen Felsen! Dann wird Wasser aus dem Stein herausströmen, und das Volk kann trinken.« Vor den Augen der Sippenoberhäupter von Israel tat Mose, was der HERR ihm befohlen hatte.
He named the place Massah and Meribah because of the quarrel of the sons of Israel, and because they tested the LORD, saying, “Is the LORD among us, or not?”
Er nannte diesen Ort Massa und Meriba (»Herausforderung« und »Vorwurf«), weil die Israeliten dort dem HERRN Vorwürfe gemacht und ihn herausgefordert hatten. Denn sie hatten gefragt: »Ist der HERR bei uns oder nicht?«
Amalek Fought
Then Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.
Als die Israeliten bei Refidim lagerten, rückten die Amalekiter an, um Israel anzugreifen.
So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us and go out, fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.”
Mose befahl Josua: »Wähle kampferprobte Männer aus und zieh mit ihnen in die Schlacht gegen die Amalekiter! Ich selbst werde mich morgen auf den Hügel stellen, den Stab Gottes in der Hand.«
Joshua did as Moses told him, and fought against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
Josua gehorchte und zog mit seinen Soldaten in den Kampf, wie Mose es befohlen hatte. Mose, Aaron und Hur stiegen auf den Hügel.
So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed.
Solange Mose seine Hände mit dem Stab erhoben hatte, behielten die Israeliten im Kampf die Oberhand; ließ er die Hände sinken, waren die Amalekiter überlegen.
But Moses’ hands were heavy. Then they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. Thus his hands were steady until the sun set.
Mit der Zeit wurden Mose die Arme schwer. Da holten Aaron und Hur einen großen Stein, auf den er sich setzen konnte; sie selbst stellten sich links und rechts neben ihn und stützten seine Arme, bis die Sonne unterging.
So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
So konnte Josua das Heer der Amalekiter in der Schlacht besiegen.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this in a book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”
Danach sagte der HERR zu Mose: »Schreib zur Erinnerung in einem Buch nieder, was heute geschehen ist, und präge Josua die Worte ein! Denn ich werde die Amalekiter völlig vernichten, niemand wird sich mehr an sie erinnern.«
Moses built an altar and named it The LORD is My Banner;
Mose errichtete einen Altar und nannte ihn: »Der HERR ist mein Feldzeichen«.
