The Two Tablets Replaced
Now the LORD said to Moses, “Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.
Now the LORD said to Moses, “Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets which you shattered.
Weiter sprach der HERR zu Mose: Hau dir zwei steinerne Tafeln zurecht wie die ersten! Ich werde darauf die Worte schreiben, die auf den ersten Tafeln standen, die du zerschmettert hast.
“So be ready by morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to Me on the top of the mountain.
Halte dich für morgen früh bereit! Steig am Morgen auf den Sinai und dort auf dem Gipfel des Berges stell dich vor mich hin!
“No man is to come up with you, nor let any man be seen anywhere on the mountain; even the flocks and the herds may not graze in front of that mountain.”
Niemand soll mit dir hinaufsteigen; auch soll sich kein Mensch auf dem ganzen Berg sehen lassen und kein Schaf oder Rind soll am Abhang des Berges weiden.
So he cut out two stone tablets like the former ones, and Moses rose up early in the morning and went up to Mount Sinai, as the LORD had commanded him, and he took two stone tablets in his hand.
Da hieb Mose zwei Tafeln aus Stein zurecht wie die ersten. Früh am Morgen stand er auf und ging auf den Sinai hinauf, wie es ihm der HERR aufgetragen hatte. Die beiden steinernen Tafeln nahm er mit.
The LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with him as he called upon the name of the LORD.
Der HERR aber stieg in der Wolke herab und stellte sich dort neben ihn hin. Er rief den Namen des HERRN aus.
Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth;
Der HERR ging vor seinem Angesicht vorüber und rief: Der HERR ist der HERR, ein barmherziger und gnädiger Gott, langmütig und reich an Huld und Treue:
who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.”
Er bewahrt tausend Generationen Huld, nimmt Schuld, Frevel und Sünde weg, aber er spricht nicht einfach frei, er sucht die Schuld der Väter bei den Söhnen und Enkeln heim, bis zur dritten und vierten Generation.
Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship.
Sofort verneigte sich Mose bis zur Erde und warf sich zu Boden.
He said, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.”
Er sagte: Wenn ich Gnade in deinen Augen gefunden habe, mein Herr, dann ziehe doch, mein Herr, in unserer Mitte! Weil es ein hartnäckiges Volk ist, musst du uns unsere Schuld und Sünde vergeben und uns dein Eigentum sein lassen!
The Covenant Renewed
Then God said, “Behold, I am going to make a covenant. Before all your people I will perform miracles which have not been produced in all the earth nor among any of the nations; and all the people among whom you live will see the working of the LORD, for it is a fearful thing that I am going to perform with you.
Da sprach der HERR: Hiermit schließe ich einen Bund: Vor deinem ganzen Volk werde ich Wunder wirken, wie sie auf der ganzen Erde und unter allen Völkern nie geschehen sind. Das ganze Volk, in dessen Mitte du bist, wird die Taten des HERRN sehen; denn was ich mit dir vorhabe, wird Furcht erregen.
“Be sure to observe what I am commanding you this day: behold, I am going to drive out the Amorite before you, and the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite.
Bewahre, was ich dir heute auftrage! Siehe, ich vertreibe die Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Hetiter, Perisiter, Hiwiter und Jebusiter vor dir.
“Watch yourself that you make no covenant with the inhabitants of the land into which you are going, or it will become a snare in your midst.
Du hüte dich aber, mit den Bewohnern des Landes, in das du kommst, einen Bund zu schließen; sie könnten dir sonst zu einer Falle in deiner Mitte werden.
“But rather, you are to tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and cut down their Asherim
Ihre Altäre sollt ihr vielmehr niederreißen, ihre Steinmale zerschlagen, ihre Kultpfähle umhauen.
— for you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God —
Du darfst dich nicht vor einem andern Gott niederwerfen. Denn der HERR, der Eifersüchtige ist sein Name, ein eifersüchtiger Gott ist er.
otherwise you might make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land and they would play the harlot with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone might invite you to eat of his sacrifice,
Hüte dich, einen Bund mit den Bewohnern des Landes zu schließen! Sonst werden sie dich einladen, wenn sie mit ihren Göttern Unzucht treiben und ihren Göttern Schlachtopfer darbringen, und du wirst von ihren Schlachtopfern essen.
and you might take some of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might play the harlot with their gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods.
Du wirst von ihren Töchtern für deine Söhne Frauen nehmen; sie werden mit ihren Göttern Unzucht treiben und auch deine Söhne zur Unzucht mit ihren Göttern verführen.
“You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in the month of Abib you came out of Egypt.
Du sollst das Fest der Ungesäuerten Brote halten. Im Monat Abib sollst du zur festgesetzten Zeit sieben Tage lang ungesäuertes Brot essen, wie ich es dir geboten habe. Denn im Monat Abib bist du aus Ägypten ausgezogen.
“The first offspring from every womb belongs to Me, and all your male livestock, the first offspring from cattle and sheep.
Das Erste, was den Mutterschoß durchbricht, jeder männliche Erstling beim Vieh, bei deinen Rindern und Schafen, gehört mir.
“You shall redeem with a lamb the first offspring from a donkey; and if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. You shall redeem all the firstborn of your sons. None shall appear before Me empty-handed.
Den Erstling vom Esel aber sollst du durch ein Schaf auslösen. Willst du ihn nicht auslösen, dann brich ihm das Genick! Jeden Erstgeborenen deiner Söhne musst du auslösen. Man soll vor mir nicht mit leeren Händen erscheinen.
“You shall work six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during plowing time and harvest you shall rest.
Sechs Tage darfst du arbeiten, am siebten Tag sollst du ruhen; zur Zeit des Pflügens und des Erntens sollst du ruhen.
“You shall celebrate the Feast of Weeks, that is, the first fruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year.
Das Wochenfest sollst du für dich feiern mit den Erstlingsfrüchten von der Weizenernte und das Fest der Lese an der Jahreswende.
“Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD, the God of Israel.
Dreimal im Jahr sollen alle deine Männer vor dem Antlitz des Herrn erscheinen, vor dem HERRN, Israels Gott.
“For I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your borders, and no man shall covet your land when you go up three times a year to appear before the LORD your God.
Wenn ich die Völker vor dir vertrieben und deine Grenzen weiter vorgeschoben habe, wird niemand in dein Land einfallen, während du dreimal im Jahr hinaufziehst, um vor dem HERRN, deinem Gott, zu erscheinen.
“You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread, nor is the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover to be left over until morning.
Beim Schlachten sollst du das Blut meines Opfers nicht über gesäuertes Brot fließen lassen und vom Schlachttier des Pessachfestes darf nichts bis zum Morgen liegen bleiben.
“You shall bring the very first of the first fruits of your soil into the house of the LORD your God.
“You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

Von den Erstlingsfrüchten deines Ackers sollst du die besten in das Haus des HERRN, deines Gottes, bringen. Das Junge einer Ziege sollst du nicht in der Milch seiner Mutter kochen.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.”
Dann sprach der HERR zu Mose: Schreibe dir diese Worte auf! Denn diesen Worten gemäß schließe ich hiermit einen Bund mit dir und mit Israel.
So he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.
Mose blieb dort beim HERRN vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte. Er aß kein Brot und trank kein Wasser. Er schrieb auf die Tafeln die Worte des Bundes, die zehn Worte.
Moses’ Face Shines
It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.
Als Mose vom Sinai herunterstieg, hatte er die beiden Tafeln des Bundeszeugnisses in der Hand. Während Mose vom Berg herunterstieg, wusste er nicht, dass die Haut seines Gesichtes strahlte, weil er mit ihm geredet hatte.
So when Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
Aaron und alle Israeliten sahen Mose und siehe: Die Haut seines Gesichtes strahlte und sie fürchteten sich, in seine Nähe zu kommen.
Then Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the rulers in the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.
Erst als Mose sie rief, kamen Aaron und alle Sippenhäupter der Gemeinde zu ihm zurück und Mose redete mit ihnen.
Afterward all the sons of Israel came near, and he commanded them to do everything that the LORD had spoken to him on Mount Sinai.
Dann kamen alle Israeliten herbei und er trug ihnen alles auf, was der HERR zu ihm auf dem Berg Sinai gesprochen hatte.
When Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
Als Mose aufhörte, mit ihnen zu reden, legte er über sein Gesicht einen Schleier.
But whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded,
Wenn Mose zum HERRN hineinging, um mit ihm zu reden, nahm er den Schleier ab, bis er wieder herauskam. Wenn er herauskam, trug er den Israeliten alles vor, was ihm aufgetragen worden war.
the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone. So Moses would replace the veil over his face until he went in to speak with Him.
Wenn die Israeliten das Gesicht des Mose sahen, wie die Haut seines Gesichtes strahlte, legte er den Schleier über sein Gesicht, bis er wieder hineinging, um mit ihm zu reden.
