War against Jerusalem
Now it came about in the days of Ahaz, the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but could not conquer it.

Als Ahas, der Sohn Jotams und Enkel Usijas, König von Juda war, versuchten König Rezin von Syrien und König Pekach von Israel, der Sohn Remaljas, Jerusalem zu erobern. Doch sie konnten die Stadt nicht einnehmen.
When it was reported to the house of David, saying, “The Arameans have camped in Ephraim,” his heart and the hearts of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake with the wind.

Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and your son Shear-jashub, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, on the highway to the fuller’s field,
Da gab der HERR dem Propheten Jesaja den Auftrag: »Geh mit deinem Sohn Schear-Jaschub (›Ein Rest kehrt um‹) König Ahas entgegen. Du wirst ihn am Ende der Wasserleitung antreffen, die vom oberen Teich herkommt, an der Straße zu dem Feld, auf dem die Tuchmacher ihre Stoffe bleichen.
and say to him, ‘Take care and be calm, have no fear and do not be fainthearted because of these two stubs of smoldering firebrands, on account of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and the son of Remaliah.
Sag ihm, er soll nichts Unüberlegtes tun, sondern Ruhe bewahren. Ermutige ihn mit dieser Botschaft: Hab keine Angst und lass dich nicht einschüchtern! Rezin und der Sohn von Remalja stürmen zwar wutschnaubend mit ihren Heeren gegen dich heran, doch sie sind nichts als verkohlte, qualmende Holzstummel.
‘Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,
Der syrische und der israelitische König haben sich einen bösen Plan ausgedacht.
“Let us go up against Judah and terrorize it, and make for ourselves a breach in its walls and set up the son of Tabeel as king in the midst of it,”
Die beiden sagen: ›Wir wollen nach Juda hinaufziehen. Erst schüchtern wir die Leute ein, dann erobern wir Jerusalem, und zuletzt machen wir den Sohn von Tabeal zu ihrem neuen König.‹
thus says the Lord GOD: “It shall not stand nor shall it come to pass.
Aber ich, der HERR, sage: Daraus wird nichts! Es wird ihnen nicht gelingen!
“For the head of Aram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is Rezin (now within another 65 years Ephraim will be shattered, so that it is no longer a people),
Damaskus bleibt auch weiterhin nur die Hauptstadt von Syrien, Rezin muss seine Eroberungspläne aufgeben. Und das Königreich Israel wird nur noch 65 Jahre bestehen; dann wird es das Volk nicht mehr geben.
and the head of Ephraim is Samaria and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you surely shall not last.”’”
Bis dahin bleibt Samaria Hauptstadt, und der Sohn von Remalja muss sich mit der Herrschaft über Israel begnügen. Vertraut jetzt mir, dem Herrn! Wenn ihr nicht fest im Glauben steht, dann könnt ihr überhaupt nicht bestehen!«
The Child Immanuel
Then the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying,
Kurz darauf ließ der HERR wieder eine Botschaft an König Ahas überbringen:
“Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; make it deep as Sheol or high as heaven.”
»Fordere von mir, dem HERRN, deinem Gott, ein Zeichen; ich will dir mein Versprechen bestätigen. Verlang, was du willst: ein Zeichen hoch oben am Himmel oder aus der Tiefe der Totenwelt.«
But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!”
Doch Ahas wehrte ab: »Nein, nein, darauf lasse ich mich nicht ein! Ich will den HERRN nicht auf die Probe stellen.«
Then he said, “Listen now, O house of David! Is it too slight a thing for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God as well?
Aber Jesaja erwiderte: »Hört, ihr vom Königshaus! Reicht es euch nicht, dass ihr den Menschen zur Last fallt? Müsst ihr auch noch meinem Gott zur Last fallen?
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
Jetzt gibt euch der Herr von sich aus ein Zeichen: Die junge Frau wird schwanger werden und einen Sohn bekommen. Immanuel (›Gott ist mit uns‹) wird sie ihn nennen.
“He will eat curds and honey at the time He knows enough to refuse evil and choose good.
Nur von Butter und Honig ernährt er sich, bis er alt genug ist, zwischen Gut und Böse zu unterscheiden.
“For before the boy will know enough to refuse evil and choose good, the land whose two kings you dread will be forsaken.
Doch ehe der Junge dieses Alter erreicht, werden die Länder der beiden Könige, vor denen du so schreckliche Angst hast, verwüstet sein.«
Trials to Come for Judah
“The LORD will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have never come since the day that Ephraim separated from Judah, the king of Assyria.”
»Aber auch für dich, deine Familie und dein Volk wird der HERR schlimme Zeiten anbrechen lassen. Sie werden schrecklicher sein als alles, was geschehen ist, seit sich Israel von Juda trennte. Das Unglück kommt in Gestalt des Königs von Assyrien.
In that day the LORD will whistle for the fly that is in the remotest part of the rivers of Egypt and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria.
Der HERR wird die Feinde herbeipfeifen. Wie ein Fliegenschwarm kommen sie von den weit entfernten Nilarmen, aus Assyrien ziehen sie heran und bedecken das Land wie ein riesiges Bienenvolk.
They will all come and settle on the steep ravines, on the ledges of the cliffs, on all the thorn bushes and on all the watering places.
Überall lassen sie sich nieder: in steilen Schluchten und engen Felsspalten, in den Dornenhecken und an jeder Wasserstelle.
In that day the Lord will shave with a razor, hired from regions beyond the Euphrates (that is, with the king of Assyria), the head and the hair of the legs; and it will also remove the beard.
Dann wird der Herr den assyrischen König von der anderen Seite des Euphrat ins Land holen und als ›Rasiermesser‹ benutzen. Er wird euch die Haare am Kopf und am ganzen Körper abrasieren, selbst den Bart schneidet er ab, so dass ihr in Schimpf und Schande dasteht.
Now in that day a man may keep alive a heifer and a pair of sheep;
In dieser Zeit wird jede Familie nur eine junge Kuh und zwei Ziegen besitzen.
and because of the abundance of the milk produced he will eat curds, for everyone that is left within the land will eat curds and honey.
Die aber werden so viel Milch geben, dass man Butter daraus machen kann. Wer überlebt hat und im Land bleiben konnte, wird sich von Butter und Honig ernähren.
And it will come about in that day, that every place where there used to be a thousand vines, valued at a thousand shekels of silver, will become briars and thorns.
Die großen Weinberge mit ihren tausend Weinstöcken, jeder einzelne ein Silberstück wert, sind dann mit Dornengestrüpp und Unkraut überwuchert.
People will come there with bows and arrows because all the land will be briars and thorns.
So verwildert das Land. Man geht dort nur noch hin, um mit Pfeil und Bogen zu jagen.
As for all the hills which used to be cultivated with the hoe, you will not go there for fear of briars and thorns; but they will become a place for pasturing oxen and for sheep to trample.
Die fruchtbaren Berghänge, die man heute mit der Hacke bearbeitet, verwandeln sich in ein unwegsames Dickicht aus Dornengestrüpp und Unkraut. Jeder meidet diese Gegend. Nur Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen treibt man zum Weiden dorthin.«
