Der HERR sprach zu mir: »Selbst wenn Mose und Samuel jetzt vor mir stünden und um Gnade flehten, würde ich sie nicht erhören. Ich habe kein Herz mehr für dieses Volk! Vertreib sie aus meiner Nähe, fort mit ihnen!
“And it shall be that when they say to you, ‘Where should we go?’ then you are to tell them, ‘Thus says the LORD:
“Those destined for death, to death;
And those destined for the sword, to the sword;
And those destined for famine, to famine;
And those destined for captivity, to captivity.”’

“I will appoint over them four kinds of doom,” declares the LORD: “the sword to slay, the dogs to drag off, and the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.
Mit vierfachem Verderben will ich sie strafen: mit dem Schwert, das die Menschen umbringt, mit Hunden, die die Leichen fortzerren, mit wilden Tieren und mit Raubvögeln, die den Rest fressen, bis nichts mehr übrig ist. Darauf gebe ich, der HERR, mein Wort!
“I will make them an object of horror among all the kingdoms of the earth because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, for what he did in Jerusalem.
Ich mache sie zum Bild des Schreckens für alle anderen Königreiche, weil Manasse, der Sohn von Hiskia, damals gegen mich gesündigt hat, als er König von Juda in Jerusalem war.

Jerusalem, wer wird Mitleid mit dir haben und mit dir trauern? Wer wird dich besuchen, um zu fragen, wie es dir geht?

Mich, deinen HERRN, hast du abgelehnt und mir den Rücken gekehrt. Darum erhebe ich meine Hand, um dich ein für alle Mal niederzuschlagen. Ich bin es müde, Erbarmen mit dir zu haben.

Mein Volk, aus den Städten des Landes werde ich euch hinauswerfen wie einer, der mit der Schaufel das Getreide in die Luft wirft, damit der Wind Spreu und Weizen trennt. Ich werde euch eurer Kinder berauben und euch vernichten, weil ihr von euren falschen Wegen nicht umkehren wollt.

Es wird bei euch mehr Witwen geben als Sand am Meer. Über die Mütter der Soldaten lasse ich am hellen Tag Tod und Verderben kommen, plötzlich werden sie von Angst und Schrecken überwältigt.

Eine Mutter, die sieben Kinder hatte, wird vom Kummer verzehrt. Ihr ist nichts mehr geblieben, woran sie sich freuen könnte. Es ist, als wäre die Sonne mitten am Tag untergegangen und mit ihr jede Hoffnung verschwunden. Wer dann noch übrig ist, den liefere ich dem Schwert des Feindes aus. Darauf könnt ihr euch verlassen!«

Ich unglücklicher Mensch! Warum hat meine Mutter mich überhaupt geboren? Jeder im Land streitet mit mir und bekämpft mich. Ich habe niemals Geld gegen Wucherzinsen verliehen und schulde niemandem etwas. Trotzdem verfluchen mich alle!

Da antwortete der HERR: »Ich werde dich bewahren und dafür sorgen, dass alles für dich ein gutes Ende nimmt. Das verspreche ich dir. Deine Verfolger werden in Not und Bedrängnis geraten und dich anflehen.
“Can anyone smash iron,
Iron from the north, or bronze?

Denn es wird ein mächtiger Feind aus dem Norden kommen, unüberwindlich wie eine Mauer aus Eisen und Bronze.
“Your wealth and your treasures
I will give for booty without cost,
Even for all your sins

Den Besitz und die Schätze dieses Volkes gebe ich zur Plünderung frei wegen ihrer Sünden, die sie im ganzen Land begangen haben.

Jeremiah’s Prayer and God’s Answer
You who know, O LORD,
Remember me, take notice of me,
And take vengeance for me on my persecutors.
Do not, in view of Your patience, take me away;
Know that for Your sake I endure reproach.
HERR, du siehst doch alles! Denk an mich und setz dich für mich ein! Lass meine Feinde ihre gerechte Strafe bekommen. Halte deinen Zorn gegen sie nicht länger zurück, sonst komme ich noch um! Du weißt doch, dass sie mich deinetwegen beschimpfen.

Immer wenn du mit mir sprachst, nahm ich deine Worte mit großem Verlangen auf. Ja, dein Wort ist meine Freude und mein Glück, denn ich gehöre dir, HERR, allmächtiger Gott.

Warum hören meine Schmerzen nicht auf? Warum wollen meine Wunden nicht heilen? Du hast mich enttäuscht, du bist wie ein Bach, der versiegt.
Therefore, thus says the LORD,
“If you return, then I will restore you —
Before Me you will stand;
And if you extract the precious from the worthless,
You will become My spokesman.

But as for you, you must not turn to them.

Da antwortete der HERR: »Kehr um zu mir, dann nehme ich dich wieder in meinen Dienst. Wenn du nicht leichtfertig daherredest, sondern das sagst, was Wert hat, wirst du mein Bote bleiben. Das Volk soll wieder auf dich hören, du aber höre nicht auf sie!

Ich werde dich ihnen gegenüber stark machen wie eine Mauer aus Bronze. Sie werden dich bekämpfen — doch ohne Erfolg, denn ich bin bei dir und werde dich retten und bewahren. Ich, der HERR, verspreche es dir.
