A Prophecy against Zedekiah
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army, with all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying,
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army, with all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying,
König Nebukadnezar von Babylonien rückte mit einem gewaltigen Heer gegen Jerusalem und die umliegenden Städte vor. Seine Truppen wurden von all den Völkern verstärkt, die er sich bereits unterworfen hatte. In dieser Zeit empfing Jeremia eine Botschaft vom HERRN:
“Thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and say to him: “Thus says the LORD, ‘Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it with fire.
»So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Geh zu König Zedekia und sag ihm: Ich, der HERR, gebe deine Stadt in die Gewalt des babylonischen Königs, und er wird sie in Brand stecken.
‘You will not escape from his hand, for you will surely be captured and delivered into his hand; and you will see the king of Babylon eye to eye, and he will speak with you face to face, and you will go to Babylon.’”’
Du selbst wirst ihm nicht entkommen, nein, du wirst ganz sicher gefangen genommen. Dann musst du Nebukadnezar Auge in Auge gegenüberstehen und ihm Rechenschaft ablegen. Anschließend wird man dich nach Babylon bringen.
“Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah! Thus says the LORD concerning you, ‘You will not die by the sword.
Doch höre, Zedekia, König von Juda, was ich, der HERR, dir außerdem sage: Du wirst nicht durch das Schwert umkommen,
‘You will die in peace; and as spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will burn spices for you; and they will lament for you, “Alas, lord!”’ For I have spoken the word,” declares the LORD.
sondern einmal in Frieden sterben. Dann wird man dir zu Ehren ein großes Feuer anzünden wie bei deinen Vorfahren, den früheren Königen von Juda. Man wird um dich trauern und rufen: ›Ach, unser Herrscher!‹ Ich selbst gebe dir darauf mein Wort.«
Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem
Der Prophet Jeremia gab diese Botschaft dem König in Jerusalem weiter,
when the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the remaining cities of Judah, that is, Lachish and Azekah, for they alone remained as fortified cities among the cities of Judah.
als Nebukadnezars Truppen noch um Jerusalem, Lachisch und Aseka kämpften. Von allen befestigten Städten Judas leisteten nur diese noch Widerstand.
The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim release to them:
König Zedekia schloss ein Abkommen mit den Einwohnern von Jerusalem, dass alle jüdischen Sklaven und Sklavinnen freigelassen werden sollten. Niemand sollte mehr Männer oder Frauen aus dem eigenen Volk als Sklaven für sich arbeiten lassen.
And all the officials and all the people obeyed who had entered into the covenant that each man should set free his male servant and each man his female servant, so that no one should keep them any longer in bondage; they obeyed, and set them free.
Die führenden Männer und das ganze Volk willigten ein, verpflichteten sich mit einem Eid und schenkten ihren Sklaven die Freiheit.
But afterward they turned around and took back the male servants and the female servants whom they had set free, and brought them into subjection for male servants and for female servants.
Doch dann überlegten sie es sich anders, holten ihre Sklaven zurück und zwangen sie wieder zum Dienst.
Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
Da empfing Jeremia eine Botschaft vom HERRN:
“Thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘I made a covenant with your forefathers in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, saying,
»So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Als ich eure Vorfahren aus der Sklaverei befreite und sie aus Ägypten herausführte, schloss ich mit ihnen einen Bund und befahl:
“At the end of seven years each of you shall set free his Hebrew brother who has been sold to you and has served you six years, you shall send him out free from you; but your forefathers did not obey Me or incline their ear to Me.
›Lasst jeden Israeliten, der sich als Sklave verkaufen musste, im siebten Jahr seines Dienstes frei! Niemand soll länger als sechs Jahre für euch arbeiten müssen!‹ Aber eure Vorfahren wollten nicht auf mich hören, sie haben mein Gebot missachtet.
“Although recently you had turned and done what is right in My sight, each man proclaiming release to his neighbor, and you had made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My name.
Ihr nun habt getan, was mir gefällt: Ihr habt die Sklaven aus eurem Volk freigelassen und euch sogar mit einem Eid vor mir in meinem Tempel dazu verpflichtet.
“Yet you turned and profaned My name, and each man took back his male servant and each man his female servant whom you had set free according to their desire, and you brought them into subjection to be your male servants and female servants.”’
Doch jetzt habt ihr eure Meinung geändert, eure Sklaven und Sklavinnen zurückgeholt und wieder zum Dienst gezwungen, obwohl ihr sie freigelassen hattet und sie gehen konnten, wohin sie wollten. Damit habt ihr meinem Namen Schande bereitet!
“Therefore thus says the LORD, ‘You have not obeyed Me in proclaiming release each man to his brother and each man to his neighbor. Behold, I am proclaiming a release to you,’ declares the LORD, ‘to the sword, to the pestilence and to the famine; and I will make you a terror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
Und nun hört, was ich euch sage: Ihr habt meine Worte in den Wind geschlagen und euren Brüdern und Schwestern nicht die Freiheit geschenkt. Darum gebe ich, der HERR, euch nun die Freiheit, im Krieg zu fallen, an einer Seuche zu sterben oder zu verhungern! In allen Königreichen der Welt wird man entsetzt sein über das, was ich euch antue. Darauf könnt ihr euch verlassen!
‘I will give the men who have transgressed My covenant, who have not fulfilled the words of the covenant which they made before Me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts —
Die führenden Männer von Juda und Jerusalem, die Hofbeamten, die Priester und das übrige Volk dieses Landes haben mit mir einen Bund geschlossen: Sie zerlegten ein Kalb in zwei Hälften und schritten zwischen ihnen hindurch. Doch dann haben sie den Bund mit mir gebrochen und sich nicht an ihre Verpflichtungen gehalten. Darum werde ich sie so zurichten wie das Kalb, zwischen dessen Teilen sie hindurchgegangen sind.
I will give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. And their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the earth.
Ich lasse sie ihren Todfeinden in die Hände fallen und werfe ihre Leichen den Vögeln und wilden Tieren zum Fraß vor.
‘Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials I will give into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon which has gone away from you.
Auch König Zedekia von Juda und die führenden Männer gebe ich in die Gewalt ihres erbitterten Feindes, des Königs von Babylonien. Selbst wenn sein Heer jetzt von euch abgezogen ist,
‘Behold, I am going to command,’ declares the LORD, ‘and I will bring them back to this city; and they will fight against it and take it and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without inhabitant.’”
wird es auf meinen Befehl wieder umkehren und diese Stadt belagern, sie erobern und niederbrennen. Auch die anderen Städte Judas mache ich zu einer menschenleeren Wüste. Mein Wort gilt!«
