“Flee for safety, O sons of Benjamin,
From the midst of Jerusalem!
Now blow a trumpet in Tekoa
And raise a signal over Beth-haccerem;
For evil looks down from the north,

Flieht, ihr Leute von Benjamin, hinaus aus Jerusalem! Stoßt in Tekoa ins Widderhorn und richtet über Bet-Kerem ein Zeichen auf! Denn von Norden droht Unheil und großes Verderben.
“The comely and dainty one, the daughter of Zion, I will cut off.
Die Schöne und Verwöhnte, die Tochter Zion, ich vernichte sie.
“Shepherds and their flocks will come to her,
They will pitch their tents around her,
They will pasture each in his place.

Hirten kommen zu ihr mit ihren Herden; sie schlagen rings um sie ihre Zelte auf, jeder weidet seinen Bereich ab.
“Prepare war against her;
Arise, and let us attack at noon.

For the shadows of the evening lengthen!

Verhängt gegen Zion den Krieg! Auf! Greifen wir an am Mittag! — Weh uns: Schon neigt sich der Tag, die Abendschatten strecken sich.
“Arise, and let us attack by night
And destroy her palaces!”

Auf! Greifen wir an in der Nacht, zerstören wir ihre Paläste!
For thus says the LORD of hosts,
“Cut down her trees
And cast up a siege against Jerusalem.
This is the city to be punished,
In whose midst there is only oppression.

Denn so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Fällt ihre Bäume und werft einen Wall auf gegen Jerusalem! Das ist die Stadt, die heimgesucht werden muss. Alles in ihr ist Unterdrückung.
“As a well keeps its waters fresh,
So she keeps fresh her wickedness.
Violence and destruction are heard in her;
Sickness and wounds are ever before Me.

Wie ein Brunnen sein Wasser sprudeln lässt, so lässt sie ihre Schlechtigkeit sprudeln. Von Gewalttat und Unrecht hört man in ihr; ständig sind mir vor Augen Leid und Misshandlung.
“Be warned, O Jerusalem,
Or I shall be alienated from you,
And make you a desolation,
A land not inhabited.”

Lass dich warnen, Jerusalem, sonst trenne ich mich von dir, sonst mache ich dich zur Wüste, zum Land ohne Bewohner!
Thus says the LORD of hosts,
“They will thoroughly glean as the vine the remnant of Israel;
Pass your hand again like a grape gatherer
Over the branches.”

So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Genaue Nachlese wie am Weinstock soll man halten am Rest Israels. Leg deine Hand an wie ein Winzer an die Reben!

Zu wem soll ich reden und wen ermahnen, dass sie hören? Siehe, ihr Ohr ist unbeschnitten, sie können nichts vernehmen. Das Wort des HERRN dient ihnen zum Spott; es gefällt ihnen nicht.

Darum bin ich erfüllt vom Zorn des HERRN, bin es müde, ihn länger zurückzuhalten. — Gieß ihn aus über das Kind auf der Straße und zugleich über die Schar der jungen Männer! Ja, alle werden gefangen genommen, Mann und Frau, Greis und Hochbetagter.

Ihre Häuser gehen an andere über, die Felder und auch die Frauen. Denn ich strecke meine Hand aus gegen die Bewohner des Landes — Spruch des HERRN.

Everyone is greedy for gain,
And from the prophet even to the priest
Everyone deals falsely.

Sie alle, von ihrem Kleinsten bis zu ihrem Größten, sind nur auf Gewinn aus; vom Propheten bis zum Priester betrügen sie alle.

Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’

Den Schaden meines Volkes möchten sie leichthin heilen, indem sie sagen: Frieden! Frieden! — Aber da ist kein Friede.
“Were they ashamed because of the abomination they have done?
They were not even ashamed at all;
They did not even know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
At the time that I punish them,
They shall be cast down,” says the LORD.

Schämen müssten sie sich, weil sie Gräuel verübt haben. Doch sie schämen sich nicht; Scham ist ihnen unbekannt. Deshalb müssen sie mit denen fallen, die fallen. Sobald ich sie heimsuche, werden sie stürzen, spricht der HERR.

“Stand by the ways and see and ask for the ancient paths,
Where the good way is, and walk in it;
And you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’

So spricht der HERR: Stellt euch an die Wege und haltet Ausschau, fragt nach den Pfaden der Vorzeit, fragt, wo der Weg zum Guten liegt; geht auf ihm, so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seele! Sie aber sagten: Wir gehen nicht.
“And I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not listen.’

Auch habe ich Wächter für euch aufgestellt: Achtet auf den Schall des Widderhorns! — Sie aber sagten: Wir achten nicht darauf.
“Therefore hear, O nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.

Darum hört, ihr Völker, und erkenne, Versammlung, was mit ihnen geschieht!
“Hear, O earth: behold, I am bringing disaster on this people,
The fruit of their plans,
Because they have not listened to My words,
And as for My law, they have rejected it also.

Höre, Erde! Siehe, ich bringe Unheil über dieses Volk als Frucht seiner Gedanken. Denn auf meine Worte haben sie nicht geachtet und meine Weisung haben sie verschmäht.
“For what purpose does frankincense come to Me from Sheba
And the sweet cane from a distant land?
Your burnt offerings are not acceptable
And your sacrifices are not pleasing to Me.”

Was soll mir der Weihrauch aus Saba und das gute Gewürzrohr aus fernem Land? Eure Brandopfer gefallen mir nicht, eure Schlachtopfer sind mir nicht angenehm.
Therefore, thus says the LORD,
“Behold, I am laying stumbling blocks before this people.
And they will stumble against them,
Fathers and sons together;
Neighbor and friend will perish.”

Darum — so spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich lege diesem Volk Hindernisse in den Weg, sodass sie darüber straucheln. Väter und Söhne zusammen, einer wie der andere geht zugrunde.
The Enemy from the North
Thus says the LORD,
“Behold, a people is coming from the north land,
And a great nation will be aroused from the remote parts of the earth.
So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ein Volk zieht vom Nordland heran, eine große Nation bricht auf von den Grenzen der Erde.
“They seize bow and spear;
They are cruel and have no mercy;
Their voice roars like the sea,
And they ride on horses,
Arrayed as a man for the battle
Against you, O daughter of Zion!”

Sie kommen mit Bogen und Sichelschwert, grausam sind sie und ohne Erbarmen. Ihr Lärm gleicht dem Brausen des Meeres und sie reiten auf Rossen, Krieger, zum Kampf gerüstet gegen dich, Tochter Zion.

Kaum hörten wir diese Nachricht, da erschlafften uns die Hände, es packte uns die Angst, das Zittern wie eine Gebärende.

Geht nicht aufs Feld hinaus, macht euch nicht auf den Weg; denn der Feind greift zum Schwert — Grauen ringsum!

Tochter, mein Volk, leg das Trauerkleid an und wälz dich im Staub! Halte Trauer wie um den einzigen Sohn, bitterste Klage: Ach, jählings kam über uns der Verwüster.
“I have made you an assayer and a tester among My people,
That you may know and assay their way.”

Zum Prüfer für mein Volk habe ich dich bestellt, voll Festigkeit; du sollst sein Verhalten erkennen und prüfen.
All of them are stubbornly rebellious,
Going about as a talebearer.

Sie alle sind schlimme Empörer, Verleumder sind sie, Bronze und Eisen sind sie, alle zusammen Verbrecher.

Der Blasebalg schnaubt, doch das Blei bleibt unberührt vom Feuer. Umsonst hat der Schmelzer geschmolzen; die Bösen ließen sich nicht ausscheiden.
