Korah’s Rebellion
Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took action,
Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took action,
Der Levit Korach, ein Sohn von Jizhar aus der Sippe Kehat, wollte das Volk gegen Mose aufhetzen. Drei Männer vom Stamm Ruben schlossen sich ihm an: Datan und Abiram, die Söhne von Eliab, und On, ein Sohn von Pelet. Sie brachten 250 Israeliten auf ihre Seite, führende und einflussreiche Männer.
They assembled together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “You have gone far enough, for all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is in their midst; so why do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the LORD?”
Gemeinsam gingen sie zu Mose und Aaron und sagten zu ihnen: »Ihr nehmt euch zu viel heraus! Wer gibt euch das Recht, euch über die Gemeinde des HERRN zu stellen? Der HERR ist mitten unter uns! Wir alle sind heilig, nicht nur ihr!«
When Moses heard this, he fell on his face;
Als Mose das hörte, warf er sich zu Boden und betete.
and he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, “Tomorrow morning the LORD will show who is His, and who is holy, and will bring him near to Himself; even the one whom He will choose, He will bring near to Himself.
Dann sagte er zu Korach und den anderen: »Morgen wird der HERR zeigen, wer zu ihm gehört und heilig ist. Darum kommt morgen zum Heiligtum, du, Korach, und alle deine Leute. Bringt Räucherpfannen mit, legt glühende Holzkohle hinein und streut etwas von der vorgeschriebenen Weihrauchmischung darüber. Dann werden wir sehen, wer heilig ist, denn der HERR wird nur den in die Nähe des Heiligtums lassen, den er dazu bestimmt hat. Ihr Leviten seid es, die sich zu viel herausnehmen!«
Then Moses said to Korah, “Hear now, you sons of Levi,
Dann wandte er sich noch einmal an Korach und seine Leute und mahnte sie: »Hört zu, ihr Leviten!
is it not enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them;
Der Gott Israels hat aus diesem ganzen Volk euch dazu auserwählt, in seine Nähe zu kommen. Er hat euch beauftragt, die Arbeiten an seinem Heiligtum zu verrichten und damit dem ganzen Volk zu dienen. Ist euch das noch zu wenig?
and that He has brought you near, Korah, and all your brothers, sons of Levi, with you? And are you seeking for the priesthood also?
Du und deine Verwandten vom Stamm Levi, ihr dürft doch immer in der Nähe des Herrn sein! Aber das reicht euch offenbar nicht! Ihr wollt auch noch Priester werden.
“Therefore you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD; but as for Aaron, who is he that you grumble against him?”
Doch denkt daran: Wenn ihr Aaron sein Amt als Priester streitig macht, lehnt ihr euch gegen den HERRN auf! Ja, gegen ihn habt ihr euch zusammengerottet!«
Then Moses sent a summons to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said, “We will not come up.
Dann ließ Mose Datan und Abiram zu sich rufen. Die beiden aber lehnten ab: »Wir kommen nicht!
“Is it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to have us die in the wilderness, but you would also lord it over us?
Du hast uns aus Ägypten herausgeholt, wo wir mehr als genug Milch und Honig hatten, und jetzt verenden wir hier in der Wüste. Bist du noch nicht zufrieden? Musst du dich auch noch als Herrscher aufspielen?
“Indeed, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor have you given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards. Would you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up!”
Wo ist denn das verheißene Land, in dem es angeblich Milch und Honig im Überfluss gibt? Wo sind die Felder und Weinberge, die wir bekommen sollten? Du willst die Leute wohl für dumm verkaufen! Nein, wir kommen nicht!«
Then Moses became very angry and said to the LORD, “Do not regard their offering! I have not taken a single donkey from them, nor have I done harm to any of them.”
Da wurde Mose sehr zornig und bat den HERRN: »Nimm ihr Opfer nicht an! Ich habe keinem von ihnen je etwas getan. Nicht einmal einen Esel habe ich ihnen weggenommen.«
Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company be present before the LORD tomorrow, both you and they along with Aaron.
Dann forderte Mose Korach auf: »Morgen sollst du mit allen deinen Leuten vor dem HERRN erscheinen! Auch Aaron wird da sein.
“Each of you take his firepan and put incense on it, and each of you bring his censer before the LORD, two hundred and fifty firepans; also you and Aaron shall each bring his firepan.”
Jeder soll eine Pfanne mit Weihrauch für den HERRN mitbringen, auch du selbst und Aaron.«
So they each took his own censer and put fire on it, and laid incense on it; and they stood at the doorway of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.
So kamen die 250 Männer Korachs am folgenden Tag mit ihren glühenden Räucherpfannen zum Eingang des heiligen Zeltes. Auch Mose und Aaron waren dort,
Thus Korah assembled all the congregation against them at the doorway of the tent of meeting. And the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation.
und die übrigen Israeliten versammelten sich ebenfalls. Es war Korach gelungen, das ganze Volk gegen Mose und Aaron aufzuwiegeln. Da erschien der HERR in seiner Herrlichkeit, und alle Israeliten sahen es.
“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them instantly.”
»Verlasst dieses Volk, denn ich werde es auf einen Schlag vernichten!«
But they fell on their faces and said, “O God, God of the spirits of all flesh, when one man sins, will You be angry with the entire congregation?”
Doch die beiden warfen sich zu Boden und riefen: »O Gott, du hast doch alles, was lebt, geschaffen! Willst du ein ganzes Volk ausrotten, nur weil ein einziger Mann gesündigt hat?«
“Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram.’”
»Dann befiehl den Israeliten, sich von den Zelten Korachs, Datans und Abirams zurückzuziehen!«
Then Moses arose and went to Dathan and Abiram, with the elders of Israel following him,
Mose stand auf und ging zu Datan und Abiram. Die Sippenoberhäupter Israels folgten ihm.
and he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Depart now from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing that belongs to them, or you will be swept away in all their sin.”
Dann rief Mose den Israeliten zu: »Geht weg von den Zelten dieser gottlosen Menschen und fasst nichts an, was ihnen gehört, sonst kommt ihr mit ihnen um!«
So they got back from around the dwellings of Korah, Dathan and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the doorway of their tents, along with their wives and their sons and their little ones.
Da entfernten sich die Israeliten vom Lager der Aufrührer. Als Datan und Abiram aus ihren Zelten kamen und mit ihren Frauen und Kindern davorstanden,
Moses said, “By this you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these deeds; for this is not my doing.
rief Mose: »Nun sollt ihr sehen, dass der HERR mich gesandt hat und ich nicht tue, was ich will, sondern was er will.
“If these men die the death of all men or if they suffer the fate of all men, then the LORD has not sent me.
Wenn diese Menschen in Frieden alt werden und sterben wie alle anderen, dann hat der HERR mich nicht gesandt.
“But if the LORD brings about an entirely new thing and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that is theirs, and they descend alive into Sheol, then you will understand that these men have spurned the LORD.”
Wenn er aber etwas tut, was es noch nie gab, dann werdet ihr merken, dass sie den HERRN beleidigt haben. Ich sage euch: Der Erdboden wird sich öffnen und sie mit allem, was sie haben, verschlingen. Der HERR wird sie bei lebendigem Leib ins Totenreich hinabreißen.«
As he finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them split open;
Kaum hatte Mose das gesagt, da spaltete sich die Erde genau an der Stelle, wo die Aufrührer standen.
and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who belonged to Korah with their possessions.
Der Boden öffnete sich und verschlang Datan, Abiram und alle Anhänger Korachs mit ihren Familien und ihrem ganzen Besitz.
So they and all that belonged to them went down alive to Sheol; and the earth closed over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly.
Bei lebendigem Leib wurden sie ins Totenreich hinabgerissen und von der Erde begraben, die sich über ihnen wieder schloss. So verschwanden sie mitten aus ihrem Volk.
All Israel who were around them fled at their outcry, for they said, “The earth may swallow us up!”
Als die anderen Israeliten ihre Todesschreie hörten, flohen sie nach allen Seiten und riefen: »Weg von hier! Sonst verschlingt die Erde auch uns!«
