Death of Miriam
Then the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Zin in the first month; and the people stayed at Kadesh. Now Miriam died there and was buried there.

І ввійшли Ізраїлеві сини, уся громада, до пустині Цін першого місяця, та й засів наро́д у Кадеші. І померла там Марія́м, і була́ там похо́вана.
There was no water for the congregation, and they assembled themselves against Moses and Aaron.
І не було води для громади, і вони зібра́лися проти Мойсея та проти Аарона.
The people thus contended with Moses and spoke, saying, “If only we had perished when our brothers perished before the LORD!
І сварився той наро́д із Мойсеєм, та й сказали, говорячи: „О, якби ми повмирали були́, коли наші брати вмирали перед Господнім лицем!
“Why then have you brought the LORD’S assembly into this wilderness, for us and our beasts to die here?
І на́що ви привели́ Господню громаду на цю пустиню, щоб повмирали тут ми та худо́ба наша?
“Why have you made us come up from Egypt, to bring us in to this wretched place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, nor is there water to drink.”
І на́що ви ви́вели нас із Єгипту, щоб приве́сти нас на це зле місце? Тут не родить збіжжя, ані фіґи, ані виноград, ані грана́тове яблуко, і навіть немає напитись води!“
Then Moses and Aaron came in from the presence of the assembly to the doorway of the tent of meeting and fell on their faces. Then the glory of the LORD appeared to them;
І ввійшли Мойсей та Аарон від громади до входу скинії заповіту, та й попа́дали на обличчя свої. І слава Господня появилася їм!
The Water of Meribah
“Take the rod; and you and your brother Aaron assemble the congregation and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it may yield its water. You shall thus bring forth water for them out of the rock and let the congregation and their beasts drink.”
„Візьми же́зло, та збери громаду ти та брат твій Ааро́н, і скажете до тієї скелі на їхніх оча́х, — і вона дасть свою воду. І виведеш для них во́ду з тієї ске́лі, та й напо́їш ту громаду та їхню худо́бу“.
So Moses took the rod from before the LORD, just as He had commanded him;
І взяв Мойсей те же́зло з-перед Господнього лиця, як Він наказав був йому.
and Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly before the rock. And he said to them, “Listen now, you rebels; shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?”
І зібрали Мойсей та Аарон громаду перед тією скелею. І сказав він до них: „Послухайте ж, неслухня́ні, чи з цієї скелі ми виведемо для вас воду?“
Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation and their beasts drank.
І підніс Мойсей руку свою, та й ударив ту скелю своїм жезлом два ра́зи, — і вийшло багато води! І пила́ громада та їхня худоба!
But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
І сказав Господь до Мойсея та до Аарона: „За те, що ви не вві́рували в Мене, щоб явилася святість Моя на оча́х Ізраїлевих синів, ви не введе́те цієї громади до кра́ю, що Я дав їм.“
Those were the waters of Meribah, because the sons of Israel contended with the LORD, and He proved Himself holy among them.
Це вода Меріви, де сварилися Ізраїлеві сини з Господом, і святість Його явилася їм.
From Kadesh Moses then sent messengers to the king of Edom: “Thus your brother Israel has said, ‘You know all the hardship that has befallen us;
І послав Мойсей послів із Каде́шу до царя едо́мського сказати: „Так каже брат твій Ізра́їль: Ти знаєш усю тяготу́, що впала на нас.
that our fathers went down to Egypt, and we stayed in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians treated us and our fathers badly.
І зійшли були наші батьки́ до Єгипту, і сиділи ми в Єгипті багато ча́су, а Єгипет чинив зло нам та батька́м нашим.
‘But when we cried out to the LORD, He heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us out from Egypt; now behold, we are at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.
І голосили ми до Господа, і Він почув наш голос, та й послав Ангола, і вивів нас із Єгипту, а оце ми в Каде́ші, що при самім кінці твоєї границі.
‘Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard; we will not even drink water from a well. We will go along the king’s highway, not turning to the right or left, until we pass through your territory.’”
Нехай же ми пере́йдемо через твій край! Ми не підемо полем та виноградником, і не бу́демо пити води з криниці, — ми підемо дорогою царсько́ю, не збо́чимо ні право́руч, ні ліво́руч, аж поки не пере́йдемо границі твоєї“.
Edom, however, said to him, “You shall not pass through us, or I will come out with the sword against you.”
І сказав до нього Едо́м: „Ти не пере́йдеш у мене, бо інакше я з мечем вийду проти те́бе!“
Again, the sons of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway, and if I and my livestock do drink any of your water, then I will pay its price. Let me only pass through on my feet, nothing else.”
І сказали йому Ізраїлеві сини: „Ми пі́демо битою дорогою, а якщо бу́демо пити воду твою я та худоба моя, то я дам заплату за неї. Нічого більше, — тільки нехай перейду́ я своїми ногами!“
But he said, “You shall not pass through.” And Edom came out against him with a heavy force and with a strong hand.
А той відказав: „Не пере́йдеш!“ І вийшов Едом навпроти нього з числе́нним народом та з сильною рукою.
Thus Edom refused to allow Israel to pass through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
І відмовив Едом дати Ізраїлеві перейти його границі, і Ізра́їль збо́чив від нього.
Now when they set out from Kadesh, the sons of Israel, the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.
І ру́шили з Каде́шу, і вийшли Ізраїлеві сини, уся громада, до Гор-гори.
Death of Aaron
Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron at Mount Hor by the border of the land of Edom, saying,
І сказав Господь до Мойсея та до Аарона на Гор-горі, на границі едо́мського кра́ю, говорячи:
“Aaron will be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because you rebelled against My command at the waters of Meribah.
„Нехай прилучиться Аарон до своєї рідні, бо він не ввійде до того Краю, що Я дав Ізраїлевим синам, через те, що ви були неслухня́ні наказу Моєму при воді Мері́ви.
“Take Aaron and his son Eleazar and bring them up to Mount Hor;
Візьми Аарона та сина його Елеаза́ра, та й виведи їх на Гор-го́ру.
and strip Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar. So Aaron will be gathered to his people, and will die there.”
І нехай Ааро́н зді́йме шати свої, і зодягне в них сина свого Елеазара, — і Ааро́н буде за́браний, та й помре там“.
So Moses did just as the LORD had commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
І зробив Мойсей, як Господь наказав був, і вийшли вони на Гор-го́ру на оча́х усієї громади.
After Moses had stripped Aaron of his garments and put them on his son Eleazar, Aaron died there on the mountain top. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.
І зняв Мойсей з Аарона шати його, і зодягнув у них сина його Елеаза́ра, — і Ааро́н помер там на верхів'ї гори. І зійшов Мойсей та Елеаза́р із гори.
