Arad Conquered

Als der Kanaanäer, der König von Arad, der im Negeb wohnte, hörte, dass Israel auf dem Weg von Atarim heranzog, griff er die Israeliten an und machte Gefangene.
So Israel made a vow to the LORD and said, “If You will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”
Da gelobte Israel dem HERRN: Wenn du mir dieses Volk in meine Hand gibst, dann vollziehe ich den Bann an ihren Städten.
The LORD heard the voice of Israel and delivered up the Canaanites; then they utterly destroyed them and their cities. Thus the name of the place was called Hormah.
Der HERR hörte auf Israel und gab die Kanaaniter in seine Hand. Israel vollzog an ihnen und an ihren Städten den Bann. Daher nannte man den Ort Horma, Bannung.
Then they set out from Mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient because of the journey.
Die Israeliten brachen vom Berg Hor auf und schlugen die Richtung zum Roten Meer ein, um Edom zu umgehen. Das Volk aber verlor auf dem Weg die Geduld,
The people spoke against God and Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this miserable food.”
es lehnte sich gegen Gott und gegen Mose auf und sagte: Warum habt ihr uns aus Ägypten heraufgeführt? Etwa damit wir in der Wüste sterben? Es gibt weder Brot noch Wasser und es ekelt uns vor dieser elenden Nahrung.
The Bronze Serpent
The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
Da schickte der HERR Feuerschlangen unter das Volk. Sie bissen das Volk und viel Volk aus Israel starb.
So the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us.” And Moses interceded for the people.
Da kam das Volk zu Mose und sagte: Wir haben gesündigt, denn wir haben uns gegen den HERRN und gegen dich aufgelehnt. Bete zum HERRN, dass er uns von den Schlangen befreit! Da betete Mose für das Volk.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live.”
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Mach dir eine Feuerschlange und häng sie an einer Stange auf! Jeder, der gebissen wird, wird am Leben bleiben, wenn er sie ansieht.
And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.
Mose machte also eine Schlange aus Kupfer und hängte sie an einer Stange auf. Wenn nun jemand von einer Schlange gebissen wurde und zu der Kupferschlange aufblickte, blieb er am Leben.
Now the sons of Israel moved out and camped in Oboth.
Die Israeliten brachen auf und schlugen ihr Lager in Obot auf.
They journeyed from Oboth and camped at Iye-abarim, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, to the east.
Dann brachen sie von Obot auf und schlugen in Ije-Abarim ihr Lager auf, in der Wüste, die östlich von Moab liegt.
From there they set out and camped in Wadi Zered.
Von dort brachen sie auf und schlugen ihr Lager am Bach Sered auf.
From there they journeyed and camped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites, for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
Von dort brachen sie auf und schlugen das Lager jenseits des Arnon auf, in der Wüste, die sich vom Amoritergebiet bis zum Arnon ausdehnt. Der Arnon bildet nämlich die Grenze zwischen Moab und den Amoritern.
Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD,
“Waheb in Suphah,
And the wadis of the Arnon,
“Waheb in Suphah,
And the wadis of the Arnon,

That extends to the site of Ar,

From there they continued to Beer, that is the well where the LORD said to Moses, “Assemble the people, that I may give them water.”
Von dort ging es weiter nach Beer, Brunnen; es ist der Brunnen, von dem der HERR zu Mose gesagt hat: Versammle das Volk, damit ich ihnen Wasser gebe!
Then Israel sang this song:
“Spring up, O well! Sing to it!

Damals sang Israel das folgende Lied: Steig auf, Brunnen! Singt über ihn ein Lied!
“The well, which the leaders sank,
Which the nobles of the people dug,
With the scepter and with their staffs.”
And from the wilderness they continued to Mattanah,

Brunnen, den Heerführer gruben, den die Edlen des Volkes aushoben mit dem Zepter, mit ihren Stäben. Aus der Wüste nach Mattana,

Two Victories
Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon, king of the Amorites, saying,
Israel schickte Boten zum Amoriterkönig Sihon und ließ ihm sagen:
“Let me pass through your land. We will not turn off into field or vineyard; we will not drink water from wells. We will go by the king’s highway until we have passed through your border.”
Ich möchte durch dein Land ziehen. Wir werden nicht in die Felder und Weinberge abbiegen und wir werden kein Wasser aus euren Brunnen trinken. Wir wollen nur die Königsstraße benutzen, bis wir dein Gebiet durchzogen haben.
But Sihon would not permit Israel to pass through his border. So Sihon gathered all his people and went out against Israel in the wilderness, and came to Jahaz and fought against Israel.
Doch Sihon ließ Israel nicht durch sein Gebiet ziehen. Er versammelte sein ganzes Volk und zog Israel in die Wüste entgegen. Als er nach Jahaz gekommen war, griff er Israel an.
Then Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as the sons of Ammon; for the border of the sons of Ammon was Jazer.
Aber Israel schlug ihn mit scharfem Schwert und nahm sein Land in Besitz vom Arnon bis zum Jabbok, das heißt bis zu den Ammonitern, denn Jaser bildete damals die Grenze zu den Ammonitern.
Israel took all these cities and Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all her villages.
Die Israeliten nahmen alle jene Städte ein und ließen sich in den Amoriterstädten nieder, in Heschbon und allen seinen Tochterstädten.
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.
Heschbon war nämlich die Stadt Sihons, des Amoriterkönigs. Dieser hatte aber gegen den ersten König von Moab Krieg geführt und hatte ihm sein ganzes Land bis zum Arnon abgenommen.
Therefore those who use proverbs say,
“Come to Heshbon! Let it be built!
So let the city of Sihon be established.
“Come to Heshbon! Let it be built!
So let the city of Sihon be established.
Darum sagen die Spruchdichter: Kommt nach Heschbon! Gebaut und befestigt werde Sihons Stadt.
“For a fire went forth from Heshbon,
A flame from the town of Sihon;
It devoured Ar of Moab,
The dominant heights of the Arnon.
A flame from the town of Sihon;
It devoured Ar of Moab,
The dominant heights of the Arnon.
Denn von Heschbon ging ein Feuer aus, eine Flamme von Sihons Burg, sie hat Ar-Moab gefressen und die Arnonhöhen verschlungen.
“Woe to you, O Moab!
You are ruined, O people of Chemosh!
He has given his sons as fugitives,
And his daughters into captivity,
To an Amorite king, Sihon.
You are ruined, O people of Chemosh!

Weh dir, Moab, mit dir ist es aus, Volk des Kamosch. Seine Söhne hat er zu Flüchtlingen gemacht, seine Töchter zu Gefangenen des Amoriterkönigs Sihon.
“But we have cast them down,
Heshbon is ruined as far as Dibon,
Then we have laid waste even to Nophah,
Which reaches to Medeba.”

Denn wir haben auf sie geschossen; verloren ist Heschbon bis Dibon, von Naschim bis Nofach bei Medeba.
Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
Die Israeliten ließen sich im Land der Amoriter nieder.
Moses sent to spy out Jazer, and they captured its villages and dispossessed the Amorites who were there.
Mose schickte Boten aus, um Jaser auskundschaften zu lassen. Die Israeliten eroberten Jasers Tochterstädte und vertrieben die Amoriter, die dort wohnten.
Then they turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan went out with all his people, for battle at Edrei.
Dann änderten sie die Richtung und zogen den Weg zum Baschan hinauf. Og, der König des Baschan, zog ihnen mit seinem ganzen Volk nach Edreï zum Kampf entgegen.
But the LORD said to Moses, “Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
Der HERR sagte zu Mose: Hab keine Angst vor ihm; denn hiermit gebe ich ihn mit seinem ganzen Volk und seinem Land in deine Hand. Mach mit ihm, was du schon mit dem Amoriterkönig Sihon gemacht hast, der in Heschbon wohnte!
