The Sin of Peor

While Israel remained at Shittim, the people began to play the harlot with the daughters of Moab.

Израильский народ поставил стан у Акации, и мужчины стали предаваться разврату с моавитянками.

For they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods.

Моавитянки приглашали мужчин присоединяться к ним, когда приносили жертвы своим лжебогам, и вот израильтяне стали поклоняться их лжебогам и есть их жертвы.

So Israel joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and the LORD was angry against Israel.

Там израильский народ стал поклоняться лжебогу Ваал-Фегору. И Господь воспылал против них великим гневом.

The LORD said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD, so that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.”

Господь сказал Моисею: "Возьми всех предводителей этого народа, убей их всех на глазах у народа и положи их тела перед Господом. И тогда Господь не обратит Своего гнева против всего израильского народа".

So Moses said to the judges of Israel, “Each of you slay his men who have joined themselves to Baal of Peor.”

Моисей сказал израильским судьям: "Пусть каждый из вас найдёт в своём роду тех, кто подстрекал народ поклоняться лжебогу Ваал-Фегору, и пусть убьёт их".

Then behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his relatives a Midianite woman, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

В то время, когда Моисей и все старейшины собрались у входа в шатёр собрания, один израильтянин, на виду у Моисея и всех остальных, привёл домой для своих братьев мадианитянку. Моисей и старейшины очень опечалились.

When Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he arose from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand,

Финеес, сын Елеазара и внук Аарона священника, увидев, что тот человек привёл в стан женщину, покинул собрание, взял своё копьё,

and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and pierced both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman, through the body. So the plague on the sons of Israel was checked.

вошёл вслед за тем израильтянином в шатёр и убил своим копьём его и мадианитянку у неё в шатре. И как только он пронзил копьём их тела, мор, который в то время свирепствовал среди израильского народа, прекратился.

Those who died by the plague were 24,000.

The Zeal of Phinehas

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

И сказал Господь Моисею:

“Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned away My wrath from the sons of Israel in that he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the sons of Israel in My jealousy.

"Я ревниво отношусь к Своему народу и хочу, чтобы он принадлежал только Мне! Финеес, сын Елеазара, сына Аарона священника, спас израильский народ от Моего гнева, ибо выразил Мою ревность к народу, и потому Я не погублю народ, как собирался.

12

“Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give him My covenant of peace;

Скажи Финеесу, что Я даю ему Свой завет мира,

13

and it shall be for him and his descendants after him, a covenant of a perpetual priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.’”

13

завет же вот какой: он и вся семья его после него всегда будут священниками, ибо он ревностно отнесся к своему Богу и то, что он сделал, очистило израильский народ".

Now the name of the slain man of Israel who was slain with the Midianite woman, was Zimri the son of Salu, a leader of a father’s household among the Simeonites.

Израильтянин, убитый с мадианитянкой, был главой одной из семей в роду Симеона, его звали Зимри, сын Салу,

The name of the Midianite woman who was slain was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was head of the people of a father’s household in Midian.

имя же убитой мадианитянки было Хазва, дочь Цура, главы семейства и предводителя одного из мадианитянских родов.

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

И сказал Господь Моисею:

17

“Be hostile to the Midianites and strike them;

17

"Мадианитяне — ваши враги, убивайте их.

18

for they have been hostile to you with their tricks, with which they have deceived you in the affair of Peor and in the affair of Cozbi, the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister who was slain on the day of the plague because of Peor.”

18

Они уже стали вашими врагами, коварно поступив с вами при Фегоре и прельстив вас женщиной по имени Хазва, дочерью одного из мадиамских предводителей, убитой, когда на израильский народ напал мор. Мор же этот случился из-за того, что народ обманули, и он стал почитать лжебога Ваал-Фегора".
