A Law of Inheritance
Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came near; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.
Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came near; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.
Als sich das Volk beim heiligen Zelt versammelte, kamen auch die Töchter von Zelofhad. Sie gehörten zur Sippe Machir vom Stamm Manasse und hießen Machla, Noa, Hogla, Milka und Tirza. Ihr Vater war ein Sohn von Hefer und Enkel von Gilead gewesen. Die Frauen traten vor Mose, den Priester Eleasar und die Stammesoberhäupter und sagten:
“Our father died in the wilderness, yet he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons.
»Unser Vater ist in der Wüste gestorben. Er war nicht an dem Aufstand beteiligt, den Korach mit seinen Leuten gegen den HERRN angezettelt hat, und er war nicht schlechter als jeder andere. Nun hat unser Vater aber keine Söhne gehabt.
“Why should the name of our father be withdrawn from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.”
Soll unsere Familie deshalb kein Land erhalten und der Name unseres Vaters in Vergessenheit geraten? Wir möchten auch Land bekommen, so wie die Männer aus unserer Sippe.«
“The daughters of Zelophehad are right in their statements. You shall surely give them a hereditary possession among their father’s brothers, and you shall transfer the inheritance of their father to them.
»Die Töchter von Zelofhad haben recht. Sie sollen auf jeden Fall Grundbesitz erhalten, genauso wie die Männer aus ihrer Sippe. Ein Stück Land soll auf den Namen ihres Vaters eingetragen werden und ihnen als seinen Erben gehören.
“Further, you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies and has no son, then you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
Sag den Israeliten: Wenn jemand stirbt und keinen Sohn hinterlässt, soll seine Tochter das Erbe bekommen.
‘If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
Hat er überhaupt keine Nachkommen, geht sein Eigentum auf seine Brüder über.
‘If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.
Sind auch keine Brüder da, so sollen die Brüder seines Vaters ihn beerben.
‘If his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative in his own family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be a statutory ordinance to the sons of Israel, just as the LORD commanded Moses.’”
Hat der Vater keine Brüder, soll der nächste leibliche Verwandte aus der Sippe das Erbe erhalten.« Diese Vorschrift, die der HERR den Israeliten durch Mose mitgeteilt hatte, war von nun an geltendes Recht.
Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the sons of Israel.
Der HERR sprach zu Mose: »Steig hinauf in das Gebirge Abarim und sieh dir von dort aus das Land an, das ich den Israeliten geben will!
“When you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was;
Du wirst nicht mit hineingehen, sondern vorher sterben und mit deinen Vorfahren vereint werden wie dein Bruder Aaron,
for in the wilderness of Zin, during the strife of the congregation, you rebelled against My command to treat Me as holy before their eyes at the water.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
weil ihr in der Wüste Zin eigenmächtig und gegen meine Anordnung gehandelt habt. Als sich die Israeliten dort über ihre Lage beschwerten, habt ihr mir nicht die Gelegenheit gegeben, mich vor dem Volk als der heilige und mächtige Gott zu erweisen. Ich wollte für sie Wasser aus dem Felsen kommen lassen, doch ihr habt euch selbst in den Mittelpunkt gestellt.« Das war an der Quelle Meriba bei Kadesch in der Wüste Zin geschehen.
“May the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,
»HERR, alles Leben ist in deiner Hand. Beruf doch einen Mann,
who will go out and come in before them, and who will lead them out and bring them in, so that the congregation of the LORD will not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”
der die Israeliten anführt, einen, der ihnen vorangeht und das Zeichen zum Aufbruch und zum Halt gibt. Lass nicht zu, dass sie wie Schafe ohne Hirten sind, sie sind doch dein Volk!«
So the LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;
Der HERR erwiderte: »Hol Josua, den Sohn von Nun, denn mein Geist ist in ihm. Lass ihn vor den Priester Eleasar und vor die ganze Gemeinschaft des Volkes treten! Leg deine Hand auf ihn und übertrag ihm seine Aufgabe vor aller Augen!
“You shall put some of your authority on him, in order that all the congregation of the sons of Israel may obey him.
Sag den Israeliten, sie sollen ihn genauso achten wie dich. Alle haben ihm zu gehorchen.
“Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD. At his command they shall go out and at his command they shall come in, both he and the sons of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”
Er selbst muss sich nach dem heiligen Los richten. Er soll den Priester Eleasar bitten, meinen Willen damit zu erfragen. Das Los bestimmt, wann das Volk aufbricht und wann es Halt macht. Josua und alle Israeliten sollen ihm gehorchen.«
Moses did just as the LORD commanded him; and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.
Mose tat, was der HERR ihm befohlen hatte. Er rief Josua und ließ ihn vor den Priester Eleasar und das versammelte Volk treten.
