Laborers in the Vineyard
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

Denn mit dem Himmelreich ist es wie mit einem Gutsbesitzer, der früh am Morgen hinausging, um Arbeiter für seinen Weinberg anzuwerben.
“When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard.
Er einigte sich mit den Arbeitern auf einen Denar für den Tag und schickte sie in seinen Weinberg.
“And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the market place;
Um die dritte Stunde ging er wieder hinaus und sah andere auf dem Markt stehen, die keine Arbeit hatten.
and to those he said, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ And so they went.
Er sagte zu ihnen: Geht auch ihr in meinen Weinberg! Ich werde euch geben, was recht ist.
“Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did the same thing.
Und sie gingen. Um die sechste und um die neunte Stunde ging der Gutsherr wieder hinaus und machte es ebenso.
“And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing around; and he said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day long?’
Als er um die elfte Stunde noch einmal hinausging, traf er wieder einige, die dort standen. Er sagte zu ihnen: Was steht ihr hier den ganzen Tag untätig?
“They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’
Sie antworteten: Niemand hat uns angeworben. Da sagte er zu ihnen: Geht auch ihr in meinen Weinberg!
“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last group to the first.’
Als es nun Abend geworden war, sagte der Besitzer des Weinbergs zu seinem Verwalter: Ruf die Arbeiter und zahl ihnen den Lohn aus, angefangen bei den Letzten, bis hin zu den Ersten!
“When those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a denarius.
Da kamen die Männer, die er um die elfte Stunde angeworben hatte, und jeder erhielt einen Denar.
“When those hired first came, they thought that they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius.
Als dann die Ersten kamen, glaubten sie, mehr zu bekommen. Aber auch sie erhielten einen Denar.
“When they received it, they grumbled at the landowner,
Als sie ihn erhielten, murrten sie über den Gutsherrn
saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the scorching heat of the day.’
und sagten: Diese Letzten haben nur eine Stunde gearbeitet und du hast sie uns gleichgestellt. Wir aber haben die Last des Tages und die Hitze ertragen.
“But he answered and said to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius?
Da erwiderte er einem von ihnen: Freund, dir geschieht kein Unrecht. Hast du nicht einen Denar mit mir vereinbart?
‘Take what is yours and go, but I wish to give to this last man the same as to you.
Nimm dein Geld und geh! Ich will dem Letzten ebenso viel geben wie dir.
‘Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with what is my own? Or is your eye envious because I am generous?’
Darf ich mit dem, was mir gehört, nicht tun, was ich will? Oder ist dein Auge böse, weil ich gut bin?
“So the last shall be first, and the first last.”
So werden die Letzten Erste sein und die Ersten Letzte.
Death, Resurrection Foretold
As Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and on the way He said to them,
Als Jesus nach Jerusalem hinaufzog, nahm er die zwölf Jünger beiseite und sagte unterwegs zu ihnen:
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of Man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death,
Siehe, wir gehen nach Jerusalem hinauf; und der Menschensohn wird den Hohepriestern und Schriftgelehrten ausgeliefert; sie werden ihn zum Tod verurteilen
and will hand Him over to the Gentiles to mock and scourge and crucify Him, and on the third day He will be raised up.”
und den Heiden ausliefern, damit er verspottet, gegeißelt und gekreuzigt wird; und am dritten Tag wird er auferweckt werden.
Preferment Asked
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons, bowing down and making a request of Him.
Damals kam die Frau des Zebedäus mit ihren Söhnen zu Jesus, fiel vor ihm nieder und bat ihn um etwas.
And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit one on Your right and one on Your left.”
Er fragte sie: Was willst du? Sie antwortete: Versprich, dass meine beiden Söhne in deinem Reich rechts und links neben dir sitzen dürfen!
But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They said to Him, “We are able.”
Jesus erwiderte: Ihr wisst nicht, um was ihr bittet. Könnt ihr den Kelch trinken, den ich trinken werde? Sie sagten zu ihm: Wir können es.
He said to them, “My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”
Da antwortete er ihnen: Meinen Kelch werdet ihr trinken; doch den Platz zu meiner Rechten und zu meiner Linken habe nicht ich zu vergeben; dort werden die sitzen, für die es mein Vater bestimmt hat.
And hearing this, the ten became indignant with the two brothers.
Als die zehn anderen Jünger das hörten, wurden sie sehr ärgerlich über die beiden Brüder.
But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them.
Da rief Jesus sie zu sich und sagte: Ihr wisst, dass die Herrscher ihre Völker unterdrücken und die Großen ihre Vollmacht gegen sie gebrauchen.
“It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant,
Bei euch soll es nicht so sein, sondern wer bei euch groß sein will, der soll euer Diener sein,
and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave;
und wer bei euch der Erste sein will, soll euer Sklave sein.
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Wie der Menschensohn nicht gekommen ist, um sich dienen zu lassen, sondern um zu dienen und sein Leben hinzugeben als Lösegeld für viele.
Sight for the Blind
As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him.
Als sie Jericho verließen, folgte ihm eine große Zahl von Menschen nach.
And two blind men sitting by the road, hearing that Jesus was passing by, cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!”
Und siehe, an der Straße saßen zwei Blinde, und als sie hörten, dass Jesus vorbeikam, riefen sie laut: Hab Erbarmen mit uns, Herr, Sohn Davids!
The crowd sternly told them to be quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
Die Leute aber befahlen ihnen, zu schweigen. Sie aber schrien noch lauter: Hab Erbarmen mit uns, Herr, Sohn Davids!
And Jesus stopped and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
Jesus blieb stehen, rief sie zu sich und sagte: Was wollt ihr, dass ich euch tue?
They said to Him, “Lord, we want our eyes to be opened.”
Sie antworteten: Herr, dass unsere Augen geöffnet werden.
