»Hütet euch davor, eure Frömmigkeit vor den Menschen zur Schau zu stellen. Sonst könnt ihr von eurem Vater im Himmel keinen Lohn mehr erwarten.«
“So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
»Wenn du also einem Armen etwas gibst, dann posaune es nicht hinaus wie die Heuchler. Sie reden davon in den Synagogen und auf den Gassen, damit alle sie bewundern. Ich versichere euch: Diese Leute haben ihren Lohn schon erhalten.
“But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Bei dir soll es anders sein: Wenn du einem Bedürftigen hilfst, dann soll deine linke Hand nicht wissen, was die rechte tut;
so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
niemand soll davon erfahren. Dein Vater, der auch das Verborgene sieht, wird dich dafür belohnen.«
“When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
»Und wenn ihr betet, dann tut das nicht wie die Heuchler! Sie beten gern öffentlich in den Synagogen und an den Straßenecken, um von den Menschen gesehen zu werden. Ich versichere euch: Diese Leute haben ihren Lohn schon erhalten!
“But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
Wenn du beten willst, zieh dich zurück in dein Zimmer, schließ die Tür hinter dir zu und bete zu deinem Vater. Denn er ist auch da, wo niemand zuschaut. Und dein Vater, der auch das Verborgene sieht, wird dich dafür belohnen.
“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
Leiere nicht gedankenlos Gebete herunter wie Leute, die Gott nicht kennen. Sie meinen, sie würden bei Gott etwas erreichen, wenn sie nur viele Worte machen.
“So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Folgt nicht ihrem schlechten Beispiel, denn euer Vater weiß genau, was ihr braucht, schon bevor ihr ihn um etwas bittet.
“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Ihr sollt deshalb so beten: Unser Vater im Himmel! Dein heiliger Name soll geehrt werden.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Lass dein Reich kommen. Dein Wille geschehe hier auf der Erde, so wie er im Himmel geschieht.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
und vergib uns unsere Schuld, wie auch wir denen vergeben, die an uns schuldig geworden sind.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’]
Lass uns nicht in Versuchung geraten, dir untreu zu werden, sondern befreie uns von dem Bösen.
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Euer Vater im Himmel wird euch vergeben, wenn ihr den Menschen vergebt, die euch Unrecht getan haben.
“But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
Wenn ihr ihnen aber nicht vergebt, dann wird Gott auch eure Schuld nicht vergeben.«
Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth (Mammon)
“Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.
»Wenn ihr fastet, dann schaut nicht so drein wie die Heuchler! Sie setzen eine wehleidige Miene auf und vernachlässigen ihr Aussehen, damit jeder merkt, dass sie fasten. Ich versichere euch: Diese Leute haben ihren Lohn schon erhalten!
“But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face
Bei dir soll es anders sein: Wenn du fastest, dann pflege dein Äußeres so,
so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.
dass keiner etwas von deinem Verzicht merkt — außer deinem Vater im Himmel. Denn er ist auch da, wo niemand zuschaut. Und dein Vater, der auch das Verborgene sieht, wird dich dafür belohnen.«
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
»Häuft in dieser Welt keine Reichtümer an! Sie werden nur von Motten und Rost zerfressen oder von Einbrechern gestohlen!
“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal;
Sammelt euch vielmehr Schätze im Himmel, die unvergänglich sind und die kein Dieb mitnehmen kann.
for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Wo nämlich euer Schatz ist, da wird auch euer Herz sein.«
“The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.
»Durch die Augen fällt das Licht in deinen Körper. Wenn sie klar sehen, bist du ganz und gar vom Licht erfüllt.
“But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
Wenn sie aber durch Neid oder Habgier getrübt sind, ist es dunkel in dir. Und wie tief ist diese Finsternis, wenn das Licht in deinem Innern erloschen ist!
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Niemand kann zwei Herren gleichzeitig dienen. Wer dem einen richtig dienen will, wird sich um die Wünsche des anderen nicht kümmern können. Er wird sich für den einen einsetzen und den anderen vernachlässigen. Auch ihr könnt nicht gleichzeitig für Gott und das Geld leben.«
The Cure for Anxiety
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
»Darum sage ich euch: Macht euch keine Sorgen um euren Lebensunterhalt, um Nahrung und Kleidung! Bedeutet das Leben nicht mehr als Essen und Trinken, und ist der Mensch nicht wichtiger als seine Kleidung?
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
Seht euch die Vögel an! Sie säen nichts, sie ernten nichts und sammeln auch keine Vorräte. Euer Vater im Himmel versorgt sie. Meint ihr nicht, dass ihr ihm viel wichtiger seid?
“And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
Und wenn ihr euch noch so viel sorgt, könnt ihr doch euer Leben um keinen Augenblick verlängern.
“And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
Weshalb macht ihr euch so viele Sorgen um eure Kleidung? Seht euch an, wie die Lilien auf den Wiesen blühen! Sie mühen sich nicht ab und können weder spinnen noch weben.
yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
Ich sage euch, selbst König Salomo war in seiner ganzen Herrlichkeit nicht so prächtig gekleidet wie eine von ihnen.
“But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
Wenn Gott sogar die Blumen so schön wachsen lässt, die heute auf der Wiese stehen, morgen aber schon verbrannt werden, wird er sich nicht erst recht um euch kümmern? Vertraut ihr Gott so wenig?
“Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’
Macht euch also keine Sorgen und fragt nicht: ›Werden wir genug zu essen haben? Und was werden wir trinken? Was sollen wir anziehen?‹
“For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Nur Menschen, die Gott nicht kennen, lassen sich von solchen Dingen bestimmen. Euer Vater im Himmel weiß doch genau, dass ihr dies alles braucht.
“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Setzt euch zuerst für Gottes Reich ein und dafür, dass sein Wille geschieht. Dann wird er euch mit allem anderen versorgen.
