The Transfiguration
And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
And Jesus was saying to them, “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
І сказав Він до них: „Поправді кажу́ вам, що деякі з тут-о прия́вних не скушту́ють смерти, аж поки не ба́читимуть Царства Божого, що прийшло́ воно в силі“.
Six days later, Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them;
А через шість день забирає Ісус Петра, і Якова, і Івана, та й веде їх осібно на го́ру високу самих. І Він переобрази́всь перед ними.
and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
І стала одежа Його осяйна́, дуже біла, як сніг, якої біли́льник не зміг би так ви́білити на землі!
Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
І з'явивсь їм Ілля́ та Мойсей, і розмовляли з Ісусом.
Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
І озвався Петро та й сказав до Ісуса: „Учителю, до́бре бути нам тут! Поставмо ж собі три шатра: для Тебе одне, і одне для Мойсея, і одне для Іллі“.
For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified.
Бо не знав, що́ казати, бо були́ перелякані.
Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
Та хмара ось їх заслони́ла, і голос почувся із хмари: „Це Син Мій Улю́блений, — Його слухайтеся!“
All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
І зараз, звівши очі свої, вони вже ніко́го з собою не бачили, крім Самого Ісуса.
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
А коли з гори схо́дили, Він їм наказав, щоб ніко́му того не казали, що́ бачили, аж поки Син Лю́дський із мертвих воскресне.
They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
І вони заховали те слово в собі, сперечаючися, що́ то є: „воскреснути з мертвих“.
They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
І вони запитали Його та сказали: „Що́ це книжники кажуть, ніби треба Іллі перш прийти?“
And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
А Він відказав їм: „Тож Ілля́, коли при́йде попе́реду, усе приготу́є. Та я́к же про Лю́дського Сина написано, що мусить багато Він ви́терпіти, і буде знева́жений?
“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
Але вам кажу́, що й Ілля́ був прийшов, — та зробили йому, що́ тільки хотіли, як про нього написано“.
All Things Possible
When they came back to the disciples, they saw a large crowd around them, and some scribes arguing with them.
А коли поверну́лись до учнів, коло них вони вгле́діли бе́зліч наро́ду та книжників, що сперечалися з ними.
Immediately, when the entire crowd saw Him, they were amazed and began running up to greet Him.
І негайно ввесь на́товп, як побачив Його, сполохну́вся із дива, і назу́стріч побіг, і став вітати Його.
And He asked them, “What are you discussing with them?”
І запитався Він їх: „Про що спереча́єтесь з ними?“
And one of the crowd answered Him, “Teacher, I brought You my son, possessed with a spirit which makes him mute;
І Йому відповів один із на́товпу: „Учителю, привів я до Тебе ось сина свого́, що духа німого він має.
and whenever it seizes him, it slams him to the ground and he foams at the mouth, and grinds his teeth and stiffens out. I told Your disciples to cast it out, and they could not do it.”
А як він де схо́пить його, то о́б землю кидає ним, — і він пі́ну пускає й зубами скрегоче та сохне. Я казав Твоїм у́чням, щоб прогнали його, — та вони не змогли“.
And He answered them and said, “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him to Me!”
А Він їм у відповідь каже: „О, роде невірний, — доки буду Я з вами? Доки вас Я терпітиму? Приведіть до Мене його!“
They brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately the spirit threw him into a convulsion, and falling to the ground, he began rolling around and foaming at the mouth.
І до Нього того привели́. І як тільки побачив Його, то дух зараз затряс ним. А той, повалившись на землю, став качатися та заливатися пі́ною.
And He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
І Він запитав його ба́тька: „Як давно́ йому сталося це?“ Той сказав: „Із дити́нства.
“It has often thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us!”
І по́часту кидав він ним і в огонь, і до води, щоб його погубити. Але коли можеш що Ти, то змилуйсь над нами, і нам поможи!“
And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.”
Ісус же йому відказав: „Щодо того твого „коли можеш“, — то тому́, хто вірує, все можливе!“
Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief.”
Зараз ба́тько хлоп'я́ти з слізьми́ закричав і сказав: „Вірую, Господи, — поможи недовірству моє́му!“
When Jesus saw that a crowd was rapidly gathering, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you, come out of him and do not enter him again.”
А Ісус, як побачив, що на́товп збігається, то нечистому духові заказав, і сказав йому: „Ду́ше німий і глухий, тобі Я наказую: вийди з нього, і більше у нього не входь!“
After crying out and throwing him into terrible convulsions, it came out; and the boy became so much like a corpse that most of them said, “He is dead!”
І, закричавши та мі́цно затрясши, той вийшов. І він став, немов мертвий, — аж багато-хто стали казати, що помер він.
But Jesus took him by the hand and raised him; and he got up.
А Ісус узяв за руку його та й підвів його, — і той устав.
When He came into the house, His disciples began questioning Him privately, “Why could we not drive it out?”
Коли́ ж Він до дому прийшов, то учні питали Його самото́ю: „Чому ми́ не могли його вигнати?“
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.”
А Він їм сказав: „Цей рід не вихо́дить інакше, як тільки від молитви та по́сту“.
Death and Resurrection Foretold
From there they went out and began to go through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know about it.
І вони вийшли звідти, і прохо́дили по Галілеї. А Він не хотів, щоб довідався хто.
For He was teaching His disciples and telling them, “The Son of Man is to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him; and when He has been killed, He will rise three days later.”
Бо Він Своїх учнів навчав і казав їм: „Людський Син буде ви́даний лю́дям до рук, і вони Його вб'ють, але вбитий, — воскресне Він третього дня!“
But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him.
Вони ж не зрозуміли цього сло́ва, та боялись Його запитати.
They came to Capernaum; and when He was in the house, He began to question them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
І прибули́ вони в Капернау́м. А як був Він у домі, то їх запитав: „Про що́ міркува́ли в дорозі?“
But they kept silent, for on the way they had discussed with one another which of them was the greatest.
І мовчали вони, — сперечалися бо проміж себе в дорозі, хто́ найбільший.
Sitting down, He called the twelve and said to them, “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
А як сів, то покликав Він Дванадцятьо́х, і промовив до них: „Коли хто бути першим бажає, — нехай буде найменшим із усіх і слуга всім!“
Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,
І взяв Він дитину, і поставив її серед них. І, обнявши її, Він промовив до них:
“Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
„Коли хто в Ім'я́ Моє при́йме одне з дітей таких, той приймає Мене. Хто ж приймає Мене, — не Мене він приймає, а Того, Хто послав Мене!“
Dire Warnings
John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.”
Обізвався до нього Іван: „Учителю, ми бачили одно́го чоловіка, який з нами не ходить, що виганя́є Ім'я́м Твоїм де́монів; і ми заборонили йому, бо він із нами не ходить“.
But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me.
А Ісус відказав: „Не забороняйте йому, бо немає такого, що Ім'я́м Моїм чудо зробив би, і зміг би неба́ром лихосло́вити Мене́.
“For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
І коли хто напо́їть вас ку́хлем води в Ім'я́ Моє ради того, що ви Христові, поправді кажу́ вам: той не згубить своєї нагоро́ди!
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe to stumble, it would be better for him if, with a heavy millstone hung around his neck, he had been cast into the sea.
Хто ж споку́сить одно́го з мали́х цих, що вірять, то краще б такому було, коли б жо́рно млино́ве на шию йому почепити, та й кинути в море!
“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,
І коли рука твоя спокуша́є тебе, — відітни її: краще тобі ввійти до життя однору́ким, ніж з обома руками ввійти до геєнни, до огню невгаси́мого,
[where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.]
де „їхній червяк не вмирає, і не гасне огонь“.
“If your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame, than, having your two feet, to be cast into hell,
І коли нога твоя спокуша́є тебе, — відітни її: краще тобі ввійти до життя одноно́гим, ніж з обома ногами бути вкиненому до геєнни, [до огню невгаси́мого],
[where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.]
де „їхній червяк не вмирає, і не гасне огонь“.
“If your eye causes you to stumble, throw it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell,
І коли твоє око тебе́ спокуша́є, — вибери його: краще тобі одноо́ким ввійти в Царство Боже, ніж з обома очима бути вкиненому до геєнни огне́нної,
where THEIR WORM DOES NOT DIE, AND THE FIRE IS NOT QUENCHED.
де „їхній червяк не вмирає, і не гасне огонь“!
“For everyone will be salted with fire.
Бо посо́литься кожен огнем, і кожна жертва посо́литься сіллю.
