Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

An einem Sabbat war Jesus bei einem angesehenen Pharisäer zum Essen eingeladen. Scharf wurde er von allen Anwesenden beobachtet.
And there in front of Him was a man suffering from dropsy.
Vor ihm stand ein Mann, der an Wassersucht erkrankt war.
And Jesus answered and spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?”
Jesus fragte die Gesetzeslehrer und Pharisäer: »Erlaubt es das Gesetz, einen Menschen am Sabbat zu heilen, oder nicht?«
But they kept silent. And He took hold of him and healed him, and sent him away.
Als sie ihm keine Antwort gaben, fasste Jesus den Kranken bei der Hand, heilte ihn und ließ ihn nach Hause gehen.
And He said to them, “Which one of you will have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”
Dann fragte er die Gäste: »Angenommen, euer Kind oder ein Ochse fällt in den Brunnen, was macht ihr dann? Zieht ihr sie nicht sofort heraus, auch wenn gerade Sabbat ist?«
Parable of the Guests
And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table, saying to them,
Als Jesus bemerkte, wie sich die Gäste um die Ehrenplätze drängten, nahm er dies als Beispiel und sagte:
“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for someone more distinguished than you may have been invited by him,
»Wenn du zu einer Hochzeit eingeladen wirst, dann begib dich nicht gleich oben auf den besten Platz. Es könnte ja noch jemand eintreffen, der angesehener ist als du.
and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this man,’ and then in disgrace you proceed to occupy the last place.
Mit ihm würde dann der Gastgeber zu dir kommen und sagen: ›Der Platz war für diesen Mann hier bestimmt!‹ Vor allen Gästen müsstest du dich an das Ende des Tisches begeben.
“But when you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher’; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you.
Wäre es nicht besser, du setzt dich gleich dorthin? Wenn dich dann der Gastgeber begrüßt, wird er vielleicht zu dir sagen: ›Mein Freund, für dich habe ich einen besseren Platz!‹ Du wirst damit vor allen Gästen geehrt.
“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Jeder, der sich selbst ehrt, wird gedemütigt werden; aber wer sich selbst erniedrigt, wird geehrt werden.«
And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, otherwise they may also invite you in return and that will be your repayment.
Dann wandte sich Jesus an seinen Gastgeber: »Zu einem Essen solltest du nicht nur deine Freunde, Geschwister, Verwandten oder die reichen Nachbarn einladen. Sie werden dir danken und dich wieder einladen. Dann hast du deine Belohnung schon gehabt.
“But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,
Bitte lieber die Armen, Verkrüppelten, Gelähmten und Blinden an deinen Tisch.
and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Dann kannst du dich glücklich schätzen, denn du hast Menschen geholfen, die sich dir nicht erkenntlich zeigen können. Gott wird dich dafür belohnen, wenn er die von den Toten auferweckt, die nach seinem Willen gelebt haben.«
When one of those who were reclining at the table with Him heard this, he said to Him, “Blessed is everyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Als einer von den Gästen das hörte, rief er Jesus zu: »Was für ein Glück muss das sein, wenn man beim Festmahl in Gottes Reich dabei ist!«
Parable of the Dinner
But He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many;
Jesus antwortete ihm mit einem Gleichnis: »Ein Mann bereitete ein großes Festessen vor, zu dem er viele Gäste einlud.
and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’
Als alles fertig war, schickte er seinen Diener zu den Eingeladenen und ließ ihnen sagen: ›Kommt! Alles ist vorbereitet!‹
“But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’
Aber jeder hatte auf einmal Ausreden. Einer sagte: ›Ich habe ein Grundstück gekauft, das muss ich unbedingt besichtigen. Bitte entschuldige mich!‹
“Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’
Ein anderer: ›Es geht leider nicht. Ich habe mir fünf Gespanne Ochsen angeschafft. Die muss ich mir jetzt genauer ansehen!‹
“Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’
Ein dritter entschuldigte sich: ›Ich habe gerade erst geheiratet und kann deshalb nicht kommen.‹
“And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’
Der Diener kehrte zurück und berichtete alles seinem Herrn. Der wurde sehr zornig: ›Geh gleich auf die Straßen und Gassen der Stadt und hol die Bettler, Verkrüppelten, Blinden und Gelähmten herein!‹
“And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’
Der Diener kam zurück und berichtete: ›Herr, ich habe getan, was du mir aufgetragen hast. Aber noch immer sind Plätze frei!‹
“And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.
›Geh auf die Landstraßen‹, befahl der Herr, ›und wer auch immer dir über den Weg läuft, den bring her! Alle sind eingeladen. Mein Haus soll voll werden.
‘For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’”
Aber von denen, die ich zuerst eingeladen habe, wird keiner auch nur einen einzigen Bissen bekommen.‹«
Discipleship Tested
Now large crowds were going along with Him; and He turned and said to them,
Als Jesus sich wieder auf den Weg machte, wurde er von einer großen Menschenmenge begleitet. Er wandte sich zu ihnen um und sagte:
“If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
»Wenn einer mit mir gehen will, so muss ich für ihn wichtiger sein als seine Eltern, seine Frau, seine Kinder, seine Geschwister, ja wichtiger als das eigene Leben. Sonst kann er nicht mein Jünger sein.
“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
Wer nicht bereit ist, sein Kreuz auf sich zu nehmen und mir nachzufolgen, der kann nicht mein Jünger sein.
“For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?
Stellt euch vor, jemand möchte einen Turm bauen. Wird er sich dann nicht vorher hinsetzen und die Kosten überschlagen?
“Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who observe it begin to ridicule him,
Er wird doch nicht einfach anfangen und riskieren, dass er bereits nach dem Bau des Fundaments aufhören muss. Wer es sieht, würde ihn auslachen
saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’
und sagen: ›Einen Turm wollte er bauen! Aber sein Geld reichte nur für das Fundament!‹
“Or what king, when he sets out to meet another king in battle, will not first sit down and consider whether he is strong enough with ten thousand men to encounter the one coming against him with twenty thousand?
Oder stellt euch vor, ein König muss gegen einen anderen König in den Krieg ziehen: Wird er dann nicht vorher mit seinen Beratern überlegen, ob seine Armee mit 10.000 Mann die feindlichen Truppen schlagen kann, die mit 20.000 Mann anrücken?
“Or else, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace.
Wenn nicht, dann wird er, solange die Feinde noch weit entfernt sind, Unterhändler schicken, um über einen Frieden zu verhandeln.
“So then, none of you can be My disciple who does not give up all his own possessions.
Überlegt auch ihr vorher, ob ihr wirklich bereit seid, alles für mich aufzugeben und mir nachzufolgen. Sonst könnt ihr nicht meine Jünger sein.
“Therefore, salt is good; but if even salt has become tasteless, with what will it be seasoned?
Salz ist gut und notwendig. Wenn aber das Salz fade geworden ist, wodurch soll es seine Würzkraft wiedergewinnen?
