Jesus Comforts His Disciples
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
»Seid nicht bestürzt und habt keine Angst!«, ermutigte Jesus seine Jünger. »Glaubt an Gott und glaubt an mich!
“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
Denn im Haus meines Vaters gibt es viele Wohnungen. Sonst hätte ich euch nicht gesagt: Ich gehe hin, um dort alles für euch vorzubereiten.
“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
Und wenn alles bereit ist, werde ich zurückkommen, um euch zu mir zu holen. Dann werdet auch ihr dort sein, wo ich bin.
Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”
»Nein, Herr«, widersprach ihm Thomas, »wir wissen nicht einmal, wohin du gehst! Wie sollen wir dann den Weg dorthin finden?«
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Jesus antwortete: »Ich bin der Weg, ich bin die Wahrheit, und ich bin das Leben! Ohne mich kann niemand zum Vater kommen.
Oneness with the Father
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
Wenn ihr mich wirklich kennt, werdet ihr auch meinen Vater kennen. Ja, ihr kennt ihn schon jetzt und habt ihn bereits gesehen!«
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.”
Da bat Philippus: »Herr, zeig uns den Vater, dann sind wir zufrieden!«
Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Jesus entgegnete ihm: »Ich bin nun schon so lange bei euch, und du kennst mich noch immer nicht, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, der hat auch den Vater gesehen. Wie also kannst du bitten: ›Zeig uns den Vater‹?
“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
Glaubst du nicht, dass ich im Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Was ich euch sage, habe ich mir nicht selbst ausgedacht. Mein Vater, der in mir lebt, handelt durch mich.
“Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
Glaubt mir doch, dass der Vater und ich eins sind. Und wenn ihr schon meinen Worten nicht glaubt, dann lasst euch doch wenigstens von meinen Taten überzeugen!
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father.
Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Wer an mich glaubt, wird die gleichen Taten vollbringen wie ich — ja sogar noch größere; denn ich gehe zum Vater.
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Worum ihr dann in meinem Namen bitten werdet, das werde ich tun, damit durch den Sohn die Herrlichkeit des Vaters sichtbar wird.
“If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Was ihr mich also in meinem Namen bitten werdet, das werde ich tun.«
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
»Wenn ihr mich liebt, werdet ihr so leben, wie ich es euch geboten habe.
Role of the Spirit
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
Dann werde ich den Vater bitten, dass er euch an meiner Stelle einen anderen Helfer gibt, der für immer bei euch bleibt.
that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
Dies ist der Geist der Wahrheit. Die Welt kann ihn nicht aufnehmen, denn sie ist blind für ihn und erkennt ihn nicht. Aber ihr kennt ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch leben.
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
Nein, ich lasse euch nicht als hilflose Waisen zurück. Ich komme wieder zu euch.
“After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.
Schon bald werde ich nicht mehr auf dieser Welt sein, und niemand wird mich mehr sehen. Nur ihr, ihr werdet mich sehen. Und weil ich lebe, werdet auch ihr leben.
“In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
An jenem Tag werdet ihr erkennen, dass ich eins bin mit meinem Vater und dass ihr in mir seid und ich in euch bin.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
Wer meine Gebote annimmt und danach lebt, der liebt mich wirklich. Und wer mich liebt, den wird mein Vater lieben. Auch ich werde ihn lieben und mich ihm zu erkennen geben.«
Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”
Da fragte ihn Judas — nicht Judas Iskariot, sondern der andere Jünger mit demselben Namen: »Herr, weshalb willst du dich nur uns, deinen Jüngern, zu erkennen geben, warum nicht der ganzen Welt?«
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
Ihm antwortete Jesus: »Wer mich liebt, richtet sich nach dem, was ich gesagt habe. Auch mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir beide werden zu ihm kommen und für immer bei ihm bleiben.
“He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
Wer mich aber nicht liebt, der lebt auch nicht nach dem, was ich sage. Meine Worte kommen nicht von mir, sondern von meinem Vater, der mich gesandt hat.
“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you.
Ich sage euch dies alles, solange ich noch bei euch bin.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
Der Heilige Geist, den euch der Vater an meiner Stelle als Helfer senden wird, er wird euch alles erklären und euch an das erinnern, was ich gesagt habe.
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Auch wenn ich nicht mehr da bin, wird doch der Friede bei euch bleiben. Ja, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch — einen Frieden, den euch niemand sonst auf der Welt geben kann. Deshalb seid nicht bestürzt und habt keine Angst!
“You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
Ihr habt gehört, was ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe jetzt, aber ich komme wieder zu euch zurück. Wenn ihr mich wirklich lieben würdet, dann würdet ihr euch darüber freuen, dass ich jetzt zum Vater gehe; denn er ist größer als ich.
“Now I have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe.
Ich sage euch das alles, bevor es geschieht, damit ihr an mich glaubt, wenn es eintrifft.
“I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me;
