The Crown of Thorns

And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and put a purple robe on Him;

and they began to come up to Him and say, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and to give Him slaps in the face.
Sie traten an ihn heran und sagten: Sei gegrüßt, König der Juden! Und sie schlugen ihm ins Gesicht.
Pilate came out again and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you so that you may know that I find no guilt in Him.”
Pilatus ging wieder hinaus und sagte zu ihnen: Seht, ich bringe ihn zu euch heraus; ihr sollt wissen, dass ich keine Schuld an ihm finde.
Jesus then came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. Pilate said to them, “Behold, the Man!”
Jesus kam heraus; er trug die Dornenkrone und den purpurroten Mantel. Pilatus sagte zu ihnen: Seht, der Mensch!
So when the chief priests and the officers saw Him, they cried out saying, “Crucify, crucify!” Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves and crucify Him, for I find no guilt in Him.”
Als die Hohepriester und die Diener ihn sahen, schrien sie: Kreuzige ihn, kreuzige ihn! Pilatus sagte zu ihnen: Nehmt ihr ihn und kreuzigt ihn! Denn ich finde keine Schuld an ihm.
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”
Die Juden entgegneten ihm: Wir haben ein Gesetz und nach dem Gesetz muss er sterben, weil er sich zum Sohn Gottes gemacht hat.
Therefore when Pilate heard this statement, he was even more afraid;
Als Pilatus das hörte, fürchtete er sich noch mehr.
and he entered into the Praetorium again and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
Er ging wieder in das Prätorium hinein und fragte Jesus: Woher bist du? Jesus aber gab ihm keine Antwort.
So Pilate said to Him, “You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?”
Da sagte Pilatus zu ihm: Du sprichst nicht mit mir? Weißt du nicht, dass ich Macht habe, dich freizulassen, und Macht, dich zu kreuzigen?
Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”
Jesus antwortete ihm: Du hättest keine Macht über mich, wenn es dir nicht von oben gegeben wäre; darum hat auch der eine größere Sünde, der mich dir ausgeliefert hat.
As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him, but the Jews cried out saying, “If you release this Man, you are no friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself out to be a king opposes Caesar.”
Daraufhin wollte Pilatus ihn freilassen, aber die Juden schrien: Wenn du diesen freilässt, bist du kein Freund des Kaisers; jeder, der sich zum König macht, lehnt sich gegen den Kaiser auf.
Therefore when Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.
Auf diese Worte hin ließ Pilatus Jesus herausführen und er setzte sich auf den Richterstuhl an dem Platz, der Lithostrotos, auf Hebräisch Gabbata, heißt.
Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover; it was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold, your King!”
Es war Rüsttag des Paschafestes, ungefähr die sechste Stunde. Pilatus sagte zu den Juden: Seht, euer König!
So they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him, crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”
Sie aber schrien: Hinweg, hinweg, kreuzige ihn! Pilatus sagte zu ihnen: Euren König soll ich kreuzigen? Die Hohepriester antworteten: Wir haben keinen König außer dem Kaiser.
The Crucifixion
So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified.
Da lieferte er ihnen Jesus aus, damit er gekreuzigt würde. KREUZIGUNG, TOD UND BEGRÄBNIS JESU: 19,16B–42 Sie übernahmen Jesus.
They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.
Und er selbst trug das Kreuz und ging hinaus zur sogenannten Schädelstätte, die auf Hebräisch Golgota heißt.
There they crucified Him, and with Him two other men, one on either side, and Jesus in between.
Dort kreuzigten sie ihn und mit ihm zwei andere, auf jeder Seite einen, in der Mitte aber Jesus.
Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It was written, “JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
Pilatus ließ auch eine Tafel anfertigen und oben am Kreuz befestigen; die Inschrift lautete: Jesus von Nazaret, der König der Juden.
Therefore many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Latin and in Greek.
Diese Tafel lasen viele Juden, weil der Platz, wo Jesus gekreuzigt wurde, nahe bei der Stadt lag. Die Inschrift war hebräisch, lateinisch und griechisch abgefasst.
So the chief priests of the Jews were saying to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews’; but that He said, ‘I am King of the Jews.’”
Da sagten die Hohepriester der Juden zu Pilatus: Schreib nicht: Der König der Juden, sondern dass er gesagt hat: Ich bin der König der Juden.
Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”
Pilatus antwortete: Was ich geschrieben habe, habe ich geschrieben.
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece.
Nachdem die Soldaten Jesus gekreuzigt hatten, nahmen sie seine Kleider und machten vier Teile daraus, für jeden Soldaten einen Teil, und dazu das Untergewand. Das Untergewand war aber ohne Naht von oben ganz durchgewoben.
So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be”; this was to fulfill the Scripture: “THEY DIVIDED MY OUTER GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND FOR MY CLOTHING THEY CAST LOTS.”
Da sagten sie zueinander: Wir wollen es nicht zerteilen, sondern darum losen, wem es gehören soll. So sollte sich das Schriftwort erfüllen: Sie verteilten meine Kleider unter sich und warfen das Los um mein Gewand. Dies taten die Soldaten.
Therefore the soldiers did these things.
But standing by the cross of Jesus were His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Bei dem Kreuz Jesu standen seine Mutter und die Schwester seiner Mutter, Maria, die Frau des Klopas, und Maria von Magdala.
When Jesus then saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing nearby, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
Als Jesus die Mutter sah und bei ihr den Jünger, den er liebte, sagte er zur Mutter: Frau, siehe, dein Sohn!
Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” From that hour the disciple took her into his own household.
Dann sagte er zu dem Jünger: Siehe, deine Mutter! Und von jener Stunde an nahm sie der Jünger zu sich.
After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, to fulfill the Scripture, said, “I am thirsty.”
Danach, da Jesus wusste, dass nun alles vollbracht war, sagte er, damit sich die Schrift erfüllte: Mich dürstet.
A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so they put a sponge full of the sour wine upon a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth.
Ein Gefäß voll Essig stand da. Sie steckten einen Schwamm voll Essig auf einen Ysopzweig und hielten ihn an seinen Mund.
Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
Als Jesus von dem Essig genommen hatte, sprach er: Es ist vollbracht! Und er neigte das Haupt und übergab den Geist.
Care of the Body of Jesus
Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Weil Rüsttag war und die Körper während des Sabbats nicht am Kreuz bleiben sollten — dieser Sabbat war nämlich ein großer Feiertag — , baten die Juden Pilatus, man möge ihnen die Beine zerschlagen und sie dann abnehmen.
So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him;
Also kamen die Soldaten und zerschlugen dem ersten die Beine, dann dem andern, der mit ihm gekreuzigt worden war.
but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
Als sie aber zu Jesus kamen und sahen, dass er schon tot war, zerschlugen sie ihm die Beine nicht,
But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.
sondern einer der Soldaten stieß mit der Lanze in seine Seite und sogleich floss Blut und Wasser heraus.
And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe.
Und der es gesehen hat, hat es bezeugt und sein Zeugnis ist wahr. Und er weiß, dass er Wahres sagt, damit auch ihr glaubt.
For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.”
Denn das ist geschehen, damit sich das Schriftwort erfüllte: Man soll an ihm kein Gebein zerbrechen.
And again another Scripture says, “THEY SHALL LOOK ON HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.”
Und ein anderes Schriftwort sagt: Sie werden auf den blicken, den sie durchbohrt haben.
After these things Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but a secret one for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate granted permission. So he came and took away His body.
Josef aus Arimathäa war ein Jünger Jesu, aber aus Furcht vor den Juden nur im Verborgenen. Er bat Pilatus, den Leichnam Jesu abnehmen zu dürfen, und Pilatus erlaubte es. Also kam er und nahm den Leichnam ab.
Nicodemus, who had first come to Him by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds weight.
Es kam auch Nikodemus, der früher einmal Jesus bei Nacht aufgesucht hatte. Er brachte eine Mischung aus Myrrhe und Aloe, etwa hundert Pfund.
So they took the body of Jesus and bound it in linen wrappings with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
Sie nahmen den Leichnam Jesu und umwickelten ihn mit Leinenbinden, zusammen mit den wohlriechenden Salben, wie es beim jüdischen Begräbnis Sitte ist.
Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.
An dem Ort, wo man ihn gekreuzigt hatte, war ein Garten und in dem Garten war ein neues Grab, in dem noch niemand bestattet worden war.
