Fate of Ananias and Sapphira
But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property,

Ein Mann namens Hananias aber und seine Frau Saphira verkauften zusammen ein Grundstück
and kept back some of the price for himself, with his wife’s full knowledge, and bringing a portion of it, he laid it at the apostles’ feet.
und mit Einverständnis seiner Frau behielt er etwas von dem Erlös für sich. Er brachte nur einen Teil und legte ihn den Aposteln zu Füßen.
But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land?
Da sagte Petrus: Hananias, warum hat der Satan dein Herz erfüllt, dass du den Heiligen Geist belügst und von dem Erlös des Grundstücks etwas für dich behältst?
“While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”
Hätte es nicht dein Eigentum bleiben können und konntest du nicht auch nach dem Verkauf frei über den Erlös verfügen? Warum hast du in deinem Herzen beschlossen, so etwas zu tun? Du hast nicht Menschen belogen, sondern Gott.
And as he heard these words, Ananias fell down and breathed his last; and great fear came over all who heard of it.
Als Hananias diese Worte hörte, stürzte er zu Boden und starb. Und über alle, die es hörten, kam große Furcht.
The young men got up and covered him up, and after carrying him out, they buried him.
Die jungen Männer standen auf, hüllten ihn ein, trugen ihn hinaus und begruben ihn.
Now there elapsed an interval of about three hours, and his wife came in, not knowing what had happened.
Nach etwa drei Stunden kam seine Frau herein, ohne zu wissen, was geschehen war.
And Peter responded to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for such and such a price?” And she said, “Yes, that was the price.”
Petrus fragte sie: Sag mir, habt ihr das Grundstück für so viel verkauft? Sie antwortete: Ja, für so viel.
Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.”
Da sagte Petrus zu ihr: Warum seid ihr übereingekommen, den Geist des Herrn auf die Probe zu stellen? Siehe, die Füße derer, die deinen Mann begraben haben, stehen vor der Tür; auch dich wird man hinaustragen.
And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last, and the young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.
Im selben Augenblick brach sie vor seinen Füßen zusammen und starb. Die jungen Männer kamen herein, fanden sie tot, trugen sie hinaus und begruben sie neben ihrem Mann.
And great fear came over the whole church, and over all who heard of these things.
Da kam große Furcht über die ganze Gemeinde und über alle, die davon hörten.
At the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were taking place among the people; and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s portico.
Durch die Hände der Apostel geschahen viele Zeichen und Wunder im Volk. Alle kamen einmütig in der Halle Salomos zusammen.
But none of the rest dared to associate with them; however, the people held them in high esteem.
Von den Übrigen wagte niemand, sich ihnen anzuschließen; aber das Volk schätzte sie hoch.
And all the more believers in the Lord, multitudes of men and women, were constantly added to their number,
Immer mehr wurden im Glauben zum Herrn geführt, Scharen von Männern und Frauen.
to such an extent that they even carried the sick out into the streets and laid them on cots and pallets, so that when Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on any one of them.
Selbst die Kranken trug man auf die Straßen hinaus und legte sie auf Betten und Liegen, damit, wenn Petrus vorüberkam, wenigstens sein Schatten auf einen von ihnen fiel.
Also the people from the cities in the vicinity of Jerusalem were coming together, bringing people who were sick or afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all being healed.
Auch aus den Städten ringsum Jerusalem strömten die Leute zusammen und brachten Kranke und von unreinen Geistern Geplagte mit. Und alle wurden geheilt.
Imprisonment and Release
But the high priest rose up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.
Da erhoben sich voll Eifersucht der Hohepriester und alle, die auf seiner Seite standen, nämlich die Partei der Sadduzäer.
They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail.
Und sie legten Hand an die Apostel und nahmen sie in öffentlichen Gewahrsam.
But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said,
Ein Engel des Herrn aber öffnete nachts die Gefängnistore, führte sie hinaus und sagte:
“Go, stand and speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life.”
Geht, tretet im Tempel auf und verkündet dem Volk alle Worte dieses Lebens!
Upon hearing this, they entered into the temple about daybreak and began to teach.

But the officers who came did not find them in the prison; and they returned and reported back,
Die Diener gingen, fanden sie aber nicht im Gefängnis. Sie kehrten zurück und meldeten:
saying, “We found the prison house locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we had opened up, we found no one inside.”
Wir fanden das Gefängnis sorgfältig verschlossen und die Wachen vor den Toren stehen; als wir aber öffneten, fanden wir niemanden darin.
Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.
Der Tempelhauptmann und die Hohepriester waren ratlos, als sie das hörten, und wussten nicht, was nun werden sollte.
But someone came and reported to them, “The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people!”
Da kam jemand und meldete ihnen: Siehe, die Männer, die ihr ins Gefängnis geworfen habt, stehen im Tempel und lehren das Volk.
Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).
Da ging der Tempelhauptmann mit seinen Leuten hin und holte sie, allerdings nicht mit Gewalt; denn sie fürchteten, vom Volk gesteinigt zu werden.
When they had brought them, they stood them before the Council. The high priest questioned them,
Man führte sie herbei und stellte sie vor den Hohen Rat. Der Hohepriester verhörte sie
saying, “We gave you strict orders not to continue teaching in this name, and yet, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.”
und sagte: Wir haben euch streng verboten, in diesem Namen zu lehren; und siehe, ihr habt Jerusalem mit eurer Lehre erfüllt; ihr wollt das Blut dieses Menschen über uns bringen.
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.
Petrus und die Apostel antworteten: Man muss Gott mehr gehorchen als den Menschen.
“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross.
Der Gott unserer Väter hat Jesus auferweckt, den ihr ans Holz gehängt und ermordet habt.
“He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
Ihn hat Gott als Anführer und Retter an seine rechte Seite erhoben, um Israel die Umkehr und Vergebung der Sünden zu schenken.
“And we are witnesses of these things; and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
Zeugen dieser Ereignisse sind wir und der Heilige Geist, den Gott allen verliehen hat, die ihm gehorchen.
Gamaliel’s Counsel
But when they heard this, they were cut to the quick and intended to kill them.
Als sie das hörten, gerieten sie in Zorn und beschlossen, sie zu töten.
But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the Law, respected by all the people, stood up in the Council and gave orders to put the men outside for a short time.
Da erhob sich im Hohen Rat ein Pharisäer namens Gamaliël, ein beim ganzen Volk angesehener Gesetzeslehrer; er befahl, die Apostel für kurze Zeit hinausführen.
And he said to them, “Men of Israel, take care what you propose to do with these men.
Dann sagte er: Israeliten, überlegt euch gut, was ihr mit diesen Leuten tun wollt!
“For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and a group of about four hundred men joined up with him. But he was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and came to nothing.
Vor einiger Zeit nämlich trat Theudas auf und behauptete, er sei etwas Besonderes. Ihm schlossen sich etwa vierhundert Männer an. Aber er wurde getötet und sein ganzer Anhang wurde zerstreut und aufgerieben.
“After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census and drew away some people after him; he too perished, and all those who followed him were scattered.
Nach ihm trat in den Tagen der Volkszählung Judas, der Galiläer, auf; er brachte viel Volk hinter sich und verleitete es zum Aufruhr. Auch er kam um und alle seine Anhänger wurden zerstreut.
“So in the present case, I say to you, stay away from these men and let them alone, for if this plan or action is of men, it will be overthrown;
Darum rate ich euch jetzt: Lasst von diesen Männern ab und gebt sie frei; denn wenn dieses Vorhaben oder dieses Werk von Menschen stammt, wird es zerstört werden;
but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them; or else you may even be found fighting against God.”
stammt es aber von Gott, so könnt ihr sie nicht vernichten; sonst werdet ihr noch als Kämpfer gegen Gott dastehen. Sie stimmten ihm zu,
They took his advice; and after calling the apostles in, they flogged them and ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and then released them.
riefen die Apostel herein und ließen sie auspeitschen; dann verboten sie ihnen, im Namen Jesu zu predigen, und ließen sie frei.
So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.
Sie aber gingen weg vom Hohen Rat und freuten sich, dass sie gewürdigt worden waren, für seinen Namen Schmach zu erleiden.
