Meine Brüder und Schwestern, haltet den Glauben an unseren Herrn Jesus Christus, den Herrn der Herrlichkeit, frei von jedem Ansehen der Person!
For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in dirty clothes,
Wenn in eure Versammlung ein Mann mit goldenen Ringen und prächtiger Kleidung kommt und zugleich kommt ein Armer in schmutziger Kleidung
and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the fine clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,”
und ihr blickt auf den Mann in der prächtigen Kleidung und sagt: Setz du dich hier auf den guten Platz! und zu dem Armen sagt ihr: Du stell dich oder setz dich dort zu meinen Füßen! —
have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives?
macht ihr dann nicht untereinander Unterschiede und seid Richter mit bösen Gedanken?
Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
Hört, meine geliebten Brüder und Schwestern! Hat nicht Gott die Armen in der Welt zu Reichen im Glauben und Erben des Reiches erwählt, das er denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben?
But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court?
Ihr aber habt den Armen entehrt. Sind es nicht die Reichen, die euch unterdrücken und euch vor die Gerichte schleppen?
Do they not blaspheme the fair name by which you have been called?
Sind nicht sie es, die den guten Namen lästern, der über euch ausgerufen worden ist?
If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF,” you are doing well.
Wenn ihr jedoch das königliche Gesetz gemäß der Schrift erfüllt: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst!, dann handelt ihr recht.
But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
Wenn ihr aber nach dem Ansehen der Person handelt, begeht ihr eine Sünde und werdet vom Gesetz überführt, dass ihr es übertreten habt.
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
Denn wer das ganze Gesetz hält, aber gegen ein einziges Gebot verstößt, der hat sich gegen alle verfehlt.
For He who said, “DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY,” also said, “DO NOT COMMIT MURDER.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
Denn der gesagt hat: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen!, hat auch gesagt: Du sollst nicht töten! Wenn du nun nicht die Ehe brichst, aber tötest, bist du ein Übertreter des Gesetzes geworden.
So speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.
Darum redet und handelt wie solche, die nach dem Gesetz der Freiheit gerichtet werden!
For judgment will be merciless to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.
Denn das Gericht ist erbarmungslos gegen den, der nicht mit Erbarmen gehandelt hat. Erbarmen triumphiert über das Gericht.
Faith and Works
What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?
Was nützt es, meine Brüder und Schwestern, wenn einer sagt, er habe Glauben, aber es fehlen die Werke? Kann etwa der Glaube ihn retten?
If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,
Wenn ein Bruder oder eine Schwester ohne Kleidung sind und ohne das tägliche Brot
and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?
und einer von euch zu ihnen sagt: Geht in Frieden, wärmt und sättigt euch!, ihr gebt ihnen aber nicht, was sie zum Leben brauchen — was nützt das?
Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.
So ist auch der Glaube für sich allein tot, wenn er nicht Werke vorzuweisen hat.
But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
Aber es könnte einer sagen: Du hast Glauben und ich kann Werke vorweisen; zeige mir deinen Glauben ohne die Werke und ich zeige dir aus meinen Werken den Glauben.
You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
Du glaubst: Es gibt nur einen Gott. Damit hast du Recht; das glauben auch die Dämonen und sie zittern.
But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless?
Willst du also einsehen, du törichter Mensch, dass der Glaube ohne Werke nutzlos ist?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
Abraham, unser Vater, wurde er nicht aus den Werken als gerecht anerkannt, als er seinen Sohn Isaak auf den Opferaltar legte?
You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;
Du siehst, dass der Glaube mit seinen Werken zusammenwirkte und dass der Glaube aus den Werken zur Vollendung kam.
and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “AND ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS,” and he was called the friend of God.
So hat sich das Wort der Schrift erfüllt: Abraham glaubte Gott und das wurde ihm als Gerechtigkeit angerechnet und er wurde Freund Gottes genannt.
You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.
Ihr seht, dass der Mensch aus Werken gerechtfertigt wird und nicht aus Glauben allein.
In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
Wurde nicht ebenso auch die Dirne Rahab durch ihre Werke als gerecht anerkannt, weil sie die Boten bei sich aufnahm und dann auf einem anderen Weg entkommen ließ?
