The Impartiality of God
Therefore you have no excuse, everyone of you who passes judgment, for in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.

Aber auch ihr anderen — wer immer ihr seid — könnt euch nicht herausreden. Ihr spielt euch als Richter über alle auf, die Unrecht begehen, und sprecht euch damit euer eigenes Urteil. Denn ihr klagt bei anderen an, was ihr selbst tut.
And we know that the judgment of God rightly falls upon those who practice such things.
Wir wissen, dass Gott über alle, die so handeln, ein gerechtes Urteil fällen wird.
But do you suppose this, O man, when you pass judgment on those who practice such things and do the same yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God?
Meint ihr etwa, ihr könntet dem Gericht Gottes entgehen, wo ihr doch genauso wie die handelt, die ihr verurteilt?
Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
Ist euch Gottes unendlich reiche Güte, Geduld und Treue denn so wenig wert? Seht ihr denn nicht, dass gerade diese Güte euch zur Umkehr bewegen will?
But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
Ihr aber weigert euch hartnäckig, zu Gott zu kommen und euer Leben zu ändern. Es ist allein eure Schuld, wenn Gottes Zorn auf euch immer größer wird und euch schließlich am Tag des Gerichts mit ganzer Härte trifft. Wenn Gott sich als der gerechte Richter zeigt,
who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS:
wird jeder bekommen, was er verdient hat:
to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
Ewiges Leben wird er denen geben, die mit Ausdauer Gutes tun und alles daransetzen, an Gottes unvergänglicher Herrlichkeit und Ehre teilzuhaben.
but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.
Gottes unversöhnlicher Zorn aber wird die treffen, die aus Selbstsucht Gottes Wahrheit leugnen, sich ihr widersetzen und dafür dem Unrecht gehorchen.
There will be tribulation and distress for every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek,
Angst und Not werden über alle kommen, die Böses tun; zuerst über die Juden, dann aber auch über alle anderen.
but glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Doch jedem, der Gutes tut, wird Gott seine Herrlichkeit, Ehre und Frieden schenken, zuerst den Juden, dann auch allen anderen.
For all who have sinned without the Law will also perish without the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law;
Wer also Gottes Willen nicht beachtet und gegen seine Gebote handelt, wird sein Leben auf ewig verlieren, auch wenn er Gottes geschriebenes Gesetz gar nicht kannte. Und wer das Gesetz sehr wohl kannte und dennoch dagegen verstieß, wird von Gott nach dem Gesetz gerichtet werden.
for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.
Um vor Gott bestehen zu können, ist es nämlich nicht entscheidend, ob man seine Gebote kennt oder nicht. Nur wenn man auch nach ihnen handelt, wird man von Gott angenommen.
For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves,
Obwohl die anderen Völker Gottes Gesetz nicht haben, gibt es unter ihnen doch Menschen, die von sich aus danach leben. Daran zeigt sich, dass sie Gottes Gebote in sich tragen, auch wenn sie diese gar nicht kennen.
in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them,
Durch ihr Handeln beweisen sie, dass die Forderungen des Gesetzes in ihre Herzen geschrieben sind. Das wird ihnen durch ihr Gewissen und auch durch ihre Gedanken bestätigt, die sie entweder anklagen oder freisprechen.
on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.
All dies ist den Menschen jetzt noch verborgen, aber es wird einmal sichtbar und offenkundig werden, und zwar an dem Tag, an dem Gott durch Jesus Christus die Menschen richten wird. So bezeugt es die rettende Botschaft, die ich verkünde.
The Jew Is Condemned by the Law
But if you bear the name “Jew” and rely upon the Law and boast in God,
Was ist nun mit dir? Du nennst dich Jude und verlässt dich darauf, dass du Gottes Gesetz besitzt, du bist stolz auf deinen Gott und dein besonderes Verhältnis zu ihm.
and know His will and approve the things that are essential, being instructed out of the Law,
Denn du hast Gottes Gebote gelernt und weißt genau, wie man sich verhalten soll.
and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
Deshalb traust du dir zu, Blinde führen zu können und für alle, die im Dunkeln tappen, das Licht zu sein.
a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of the immature, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and of the truth,
Du willst die Unverständigen erziehen und die Unwissenden belehren, denn mit dem Gesetz hast du alles in Händen, was wir über Gott und seine Wahrheit wissen können.
you, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that one shall not steal, do you steal?
Doch wenn du die anderen so gut belehren kannst, weshalb nimmst du selbst keine Lehre an? Du predigst, dass man nicht stehlen soll, und stiehlst selber?
You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
Du sagst den Leuten, dass sie nicht die Ehe brechen sollen, und tust es selbst? Du verabscheust Götzen, und dann bereicherst du dich an ihren Tempelschätzen.
You who boast in the Law, through your breaking the Law, do you dishonor God?
Du bist stolz darauf, dass Gott euch sein Gesetz gegeben hat, und dennoch lebst du nicht nach seinen Geboten und bringst ihn so in Verruf.
For “THE NAME OF GOD IS BLASPHEMED AMONG THE GENTILES BECAUSE OF YOU,” just as it is written.
Aber das steht ja schon in der Heiligen Schrift: »Euretwegen werden die Völker Gottes Ehre in den Schmutz ziehen.«
For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
Sicher ist es ein ganz besonderer Vorzug, Jude zu sein, wenn du Gottes Gebote befolgst. Tust du dies aber nicht, dann bist du mit denen gleichzustellen, die niemals beschnitten worden sind.
So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision?
Wenn aber umgekehrt Menschen, die nicht beschnitten worden sind, nach Gottes Geboten leben, dann gelten sie vor ihm als beschnitten.
And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law?
Ja, solche Menschen werden sogar über euch Juden Richter sein; denn ihr seid zwar am Körper beschnitten und habt Gottes Gebote, aber ihr lebt nicht danach.
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
Die jüdische Abstammung und die Beschneidung sind also nur äußerlich und lassen noch niemanden wirklich zum Juden werden.
But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.
Jude ist man im tiefsten Inneren, wenn die Beschneidung mehr bedeutet als die Erfüllung toter Buchstaben. Was wirklich zählt, ist die Beschneidung, die vom Heiligen Geist kommt und einen Menschen völlig verändert. In den Augen der Menschen mag das nicht viel bedeuten, wohl aber bei Gott.
