Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,

Ist nun bei euch Ermahnung in Christo, ist Trost der Liebe, ist Gemeinschaft des Geistes, ist herzliche Liebe und Barmherzigkeit,
make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.
so erfüllet meine Freude, daß ihr eines Sinnes seid, gleiche Liebe habt, einmütig und einhellig seid.
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
Nichts tut durch Zank oder eitle Ehre; sondern durch Demut achte einer den andern höher denn sich selbst,
do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
und ein jeglicher sehe nicht auf das Seine, sondern auch auf das, was des andern ist.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
Ein jeglicher sei gesinnt, wie Jesus Christus auch war:
who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
welcher, ob er wohl in göttlicher Gestalt war, hielt er’s nicht für einen Raub, Gott gleich sein,
but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
sondern entäußerte sich selbst und nahm Knechtsgestalt an, ward gleich wie ein anderer Mensch und an Gebärden als ein Mensch erfunden;
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
er erniedrigte sich selbst und ward gehorsam bis zum Tode, ja zum Tode am Kreuz.
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,
Darum hat ihn auch Gott erhöht und hat ihm einen Namen gegeben, der über alle Namen ist,
so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
daß in dem Namen Jesu sich beugen sollen aller derer Kniee, die im Himmel und auf Erden und unter der Erde sind,
and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
und alle Zungen bekennen sollen, daß Jesus Christus der HERR sei, zur Ehre Gottes, des Vaters.
So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling;
Also, meine Liebsten, wie ihr allezeit seid gehorsam gewesen, nicht allein in meiner Gegenwart, sondern auch nun viel mehr in meiner Abwesenheit, schaffet, daß ihr selig werdet, mit Furcht und Zittern.
for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Denn Gott ist’s, der in euch wirkt beides, das Wollen und das Vollbringen, nach seinem Wohlgefallen.
so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
auf daß ihr seid ohne Tadel und lauter und Gottes Kinder, unsträflich mitten unter dem unschlachtigen und verkehrten Geschlecht, unter welchem ihr scheinet als Lichter in der Welt,
holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.
damit daß ihr haltet an dem Wort des Lebens, mir zu einem Ruhm an dem Tage Christi, als der ich nicht vergeblich gelaufen noch vergeblich gearbeitet habe.
But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice and share my joy with you all.
Und ob ich geopfert werde über dem Opfer und Gottesdienst eures Glaubens, so freue ich mich und freue mich mit euch allen.
You too, I urge you, rejoice in the same way and share your joy with me.
Dessen sollt ihr euch auch freuen und sollt euch mit mir freuen.
Timothy and Epaphroditus
But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition.
Ich hoffe aber in dem HERRN Jesus, daß ich Timotheus bald werde zu euch senden, daß ich auch erquickt werde, wenn ich erfahre, wie es um euch steht.
For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare.
Denn ich habe keinen, der so gar meines Sinnes sei, der so herzlich für euch sorgt.
For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.
Denn sie suchen alle das Ihre, nicht, das Christi Jesu ist.
But you know of his proven worth, that he served with me in the furtherance of the gospel like a child serving his father.
Ihr aber wisset, daß er rechtschaffen ist; denn wie ein Kind dem Vater hat er mit mir gedient am Evangelium.
Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me;
Ihn, hoffe ich, werde ich senden von Stund an, wenn ich erfahren habe, wie es um mich steht.
and I trust in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly.
Ich vertraue aber in dem HERRN, daß auch ich selbst bald kommen werde.
But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need;
Ich habe es aber für nötig angesehen, den Bruder Epaphroditus zu euch zu senden, der mein Gehilfe und Mitstreiter und euer Gesandter und meiner Notdurft Diener ist;
because he was longing for you all and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.
sintemal er nach euch allen Verlangen hatte und war hoch bekümmert, darum daß ihr gehört hattet, daß er krank war gewesen.
For indeed he was sick to the point of death, but God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow.
Und er war todkrank, aber Gott hat sich über ihn erbarmt; nicht allein aber über ihn, sondern auch über mich, auf daß ich nicht eine Traurigkeit über die andere hätte.
Therefore I have sent him all the more eagerly so that when you see him again you may rejoice and I may be less concerned about you.
Ich habe ihn aber desto eilender gesandt, auf daß ihr ihn sehet und wieder fröhlich werdet und ich auch der Traurigkeit weniger habe.
Receive him then in the Lord with all joy, and hold men like him in high regard;
So nehmet ihn nun auf in dem HERRN mit allen Freuden und habt solche Leute in Ehren.
