New Living Translation

  • Put On the New Self

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
  • Living the New Life

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.
  • Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
  • Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
  • For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
  • For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
  • When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
  • And when Christ, who is youra life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
  • Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.
  • So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
  • For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience,
  • Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.b
  • and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.
  • You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.
  • But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.
  • But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
  • Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
  • Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
  • and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him —
  • Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
  • a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.
  • In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile,c circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized,d slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.
  • So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;
  • Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
  • bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.
  • Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
  • Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
  • Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
  • Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.
  • And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
  • Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.
  • Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
  • Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
  • And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

  • Family Relations

Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.

  • Instructions for Christian Households

Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting for those who belong to the Lord.
  • Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them.
  • Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
  • Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
  • Children, always obey your parents, for this pleases the Lord.
  • Fathers, do not exasperate your children, so that they will not lose heart.
  • Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.
  • Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord.
  • Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord.
  • Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
  • Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.
  • knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
  • Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.e
  • For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality.
  • But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.
