Paulus, Silvanus und Timotheus schreiben diesen Brief an die Gemeinde in Thessalonich, die zu Gott, dem Vater, und zu dem Herrn Jesus Christus gehört. Wir wünschen euch Gottes Gnade und seinen Frieden.
We give thanks to God always for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers;

constantly bearing in mind your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father,
Vor Gott, unserem Vater, erinnern wir uns, mit welcher Selbstverständlichkeit ihr euren Glauben in die Tat umsetzt, zu welchem unermüdlichen Einsatz ihr aus Liebe bereit seid und wie standhaft euch die Hoffnung auf das Kommen unseres Herrn Jesus Christus macht.
knowing, brethren beloved by God, His choice of you;
Gott liebt euch, liebe Brüder und Schwestern, und wir wissen, dass er euch erwählt hat.
for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake.
Denn als wir euch die rettende Botschaft verkündeten, da wirkte Gott nicht allein durch unsere Worte, sondern mit seiner ganzen Kraft. Sein Heiliger Geist stand uns bei und gab uns von Anfang an die Gewissheit, dass unsere Predigt bei euch nicht ins Leere gehen würde. Ihr wisst ja selbst, wie wir uns verhielten, während wir bei euch waren: Bei allem, was wir taten, ging es uns nur um euch.
You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much tribulation with the joy of the Holy Spirit,
Nun seid ihr unserem Beispiel und dem unseres Herrn gefolgt. Und obwohl ihr deswegen viel leiden musstet, habt ihr Gottes Botschaft mit einer solchen Freude aufgenommen, wie sie nur der Heilige Geist schenken kann.
so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia.
So seid ihr für die Christen in ganz Mazedonien und in der Provinz Achaja zum Vorbild geworden.
For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone forth, so that we have no need to say anything.
Aber nicht nur dort hat sich die Botschaft des Herrn durch euch verbreitet, auch an allen anderen Orten spricht man von eurem Glauben, so dass wir darüber nichts mehr berichten müssen.
For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,
Im Gegenteil! Überall erzählt man, wie freundlich ihr uns aufgenommen habt, dass ihr nicht länger die toten Götzen anbetet, sondern zu dem lebendigen, wahren Gott umgekehrt seid und ihm allein dient.
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.
Und so wartet ihr nun auf seinen Sohn, auf Jesus, den er von den Toten auferweckt hat und der für alle sichtbar vom Himmel kommen wird. Er allein rettet uns vor Gottes Zorn im kommenden Gericht.
