Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,

Aber der Zukunft halben unsers HERRN Jesu Christi und unsrer Versammlung zu ihm bitten wir euch, liebe Brüder,
that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
daß ihr euch nicht bald bewegen lasset von eurem Sinn noch erschrecken, weder durch Geist noch durch Wort noch durch Brief, als von uns gesandt, daß der Tag Christi vorhanden sei.
Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction,
Lasset euch niemand verführen in keinerlei Weise; denn er kommt nicht, es sei denn, daß zuvor der Abfall komme und offenbart werde der Mensch der Sünde, das Kind des Verderbens,
who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
der da ist der Widersacher und sich überhebt über alles, was Gott oder Gottesdienst heißt, also daß er sich setzt in den Tempel Gottes als ein Gott und gibt sich aus, er sei Gott.
Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
Gedenket ihr nicht daran, daß ich euch solches sagte, da ich noch bei euch war?
And you know what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
Und was es noch aufhält, wisset ihr, daß er offenbart werde zu seiner Zeit.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
Denn es regt sich bereits das Geheimnis der Bosheit, nur daß, der es jetzt aufhält, muß hinweggetan werden;
Then that lawless one will be revealed whom the Lord will slay with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the appearance of His coming;
und alsdann wird der Boshafte offenbart werden, welchen der HERR umbringen wird mit dem Geist seines Mundes und wird durch die Erscheinung seiner Zukunft ihm ein Ende machen,
that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,
ihm, dessen Zukunft geschieht nach der Wirkung des Satans mit allerlei lügenhaftigen Kräften und Zeichen und Wundern
and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth so as to be saved.
und mit allerlei Verführung zur Ungerechtigkeit unter denen, die verloren werden, dafür daß sie die Liebe zur Wahrheit nicht haben angenommen, auf daß sie selig würden.
For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
Darum wird ihnen Gott kräftige Irrtümer senden, daß sie glauben der Lüge,
in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness.
auf daß gerichtet werden alle, die der Wahrheit nicht glauben, sondern haben Lust an der Ungerechtigkeit.
But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
Wir aber sollen Gott danken allezeit um euch, vom HERRN geliebte Brüder, daß euch Gott erwählt hat von Anfang zur Seligkeit, in der Heiligung des Geistes und im Glauben der Wahrheit,
It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
darein er euch berufen hat durch unser Evangelium zum herrlichen Eigentum unsers HERRN Jesu Christi.
So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us.
So stehet nun, liebe Brüder, und haltet an den Satzungen, in denen ihr gelehrt seid, es sei durch unser Wort oder Brief.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace,
Er aber, unser HERR Jesus Christus, und Gott, unser Vater, der uns hat geliebt und uns gegeben einen ewigen Trost und eine gute Hoffnung durch Gnade,
