Darby Bible Translation

  • “Preach the Word”

    I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
  • Preach the Word

    I testify before God and Christ Jesus, who is about to judge living and dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom,
  • preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
  • proclaim the word; be urgent in season [and] out of season, convict, rebuke, encourage, with all longsuffering and doctrine.
  • For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
  • For the time shall be when they will not bear sound teaching; but according to their own lusts will heap up to themselves teachers, having an itching ear;
  • and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
  • and they will turn away their ear from the truth, and will have turned aside to fables.
  • But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
  • But *thou*, be sober in all things, bear evils, do [the] work of an evangelist, fill up the full measure of thy ministry.
  • For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.
  • For *I* am already being poured out, and the time of my release is come.
  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;
  • I have combated the good combat, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
  • in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
  • Henceforth the crown of righteousness is laid up for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will render to me in that day; but not only to me, but also to all who love his appearing.

  • Personal Concerns

    Make every effort to come to me soon;
  • Personal Concerns

    Use diligence to come to me quickly;
  • for Demas, having loved this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica; Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
  • for Demas has forsaken me, having loved the present age, and is gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.
  • Only Luke is with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for service.
  • Luke alone is with me. Take Mark, and bring [him] with thyself, for he is serviceable to me for ministry.
  • But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
  • But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
  • When you come bring the cloak which I left at Troas with Carpus, and the books, especially the parchments.
  • The cloak which I left behind [me] in Troas at Carpus's, bring when thou comest, and the books, especially the parchments.
  • Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
  • Alexander the smith did many evil things against me. The Lord will render to him according to his works.
  • Be on guard against him yourself, for he vigorously opposed our teaching.
  • Against whom be *thou* also on thy guard, for he has greatly withstood our words.
  • At my first defense no one supported me, but all deserted me; may it not be counted against them.
  • The Lord Remains Faithful

    At my first defence no man stood with me, but all deserted me. May it not be imputed to them.
  • But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.
  • But the Lord stood with [me], and gave me power, that through me the proclamation might be fully made, and all [those of] the nations should hear; and I was delivered out of the lion's mouth.
  • The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
  • The Lord shall deliver me from every wicked work, and shall preserve [me] for his heavenly kingdom; to whom [be] glory for the ages of ages. Amen.
  • Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.
  • Final Greetings

    Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the house of Onesiphorus.
  • Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I left sick at Miletus.
  • Erastus remained in Corinth, but Trophimus I left behind in Miletus sick.
  • Make every effort to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, also Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brethren.
  • Use diligence to come before winter. Eubulus salutes thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and the brethren all.
  • The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.
  • The Lord Jesus Christ [be] with your spirit. Grace [be] with you.
