Samson’s Marriage

Simson ging nach Timna hinab und er sah in Timna unter den Töchtern der Philister eine Frau.
So he came back and told his father and mother, “I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife.”
Als er wieder heraufkam, teilte er es seinem Vater und seiner Mutter mit und sagte: Eine Frau habe ich in Timna gesehen unter den Töchtern der Philister. Nehmt sie mir doch zur Frau!
Then his father and his mother said to him, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she looks good to me.”
Sein Vater und seine Mutter erwiderten ihm: Gibt es denn unter den Töchtern deiner Stammesbrüder und in meinem ganzen Volk keine Frau, sodass du fortgehen und eine Frau von diesen unbeschnittenen Philistern heiraten musst? Simson antwortete seinem Vater: Die nimm mir, denn sie ist recht in meinen Augen.
However, his father and mother did not know that it was of the LORD, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.
Sein Vater und seine Mutter wussten nicht, dass es vom HERRN so geplant war, weil er einen Anlass zum Kampf mit den Philistern suchte. Damals herrschten nämlich die Philister über Israel.
Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and mother, and came as far as the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion came roaring toward him.
Simson ging mit seinem Vater und seiner Mutter nach Timna hinab. Als sie bei den Weinbergen von Timna waren, siehe, da brüllte ihm ein junger Löwe entgegen.
The Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, so that he tore him as one tears a young goat though he had nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or mother what he had done.
Da kam der Geist des HERRN über Simson und Simson zerriss den Löwen mit bloßen Händen, als würde er ein Böckchen zerreißen. Aber seinem Vater und seiner Mutter teilte er nicht mit, was er getan hatte.
So he went down and talked to the woman; and she looked good to Samson.
Dann ging er hinab und redete mit der Frau und sie war recht in Simsons Augen.
When he returned later to take her, he turned aside to look at the carcass of the lion; and behold, a swarm of bees and honey were in the body of the lion.
Nach einiger Zeit ging er wieder hin, um sie zu heiraten. Dabei bog er vom Weg ab, um nach dem Kadaver des Löwen zu sehen. Und siehe, da war ein Bienenschwarm im Gerippe des Löwen und Honig.
So he scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.
Er löste den Honig mit den Händen heraus und aß davon im Weitergehen. Als er zu seinem Vater und zu seiner Mutter kam, gab er ihnen davon und sie aßen ebenfalls. Er sagte ihnen aber nicht, dass er den Honig aus dem Kadaver des Löwen herausgeholt hatte.
Then his father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men customarily did this.
Auch sein Vater kam zu der Frau hinab und Simson veranstaltete dort ein Trinkgelage, wie es die jungen Leute zu machen pflegen.
When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.
Und es geschah, sobald sie ihn sahen, holten sie dreißig Gefährten; die waren um ihn.
Samson’s Riddle
Then Samson said to them, “Let me now propound a riddle to you; if you will indeed tell it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.
Simson sagte zu ihnen: Ich will euch ein Rätsel aufgeben. Wenn ihr es mir in den sieben Tagen des Gelages lösen könnt und herausfindet, will ich euch dreißig Hemden und dreißig Festgewänder geben.
“But if you are unable to tell me, then you shall give me thirty linen wraps and thirty changes of clothes.” And they said to him, “Propound your riddle, that we may hear it.”
Wenn ihr mir aber die Lösung nicht sagen könnt, dann sollt ihr mir dreißig Hemden und dreißig Festgewänder geben. Sie sagten zu ihm: Sag uns dein Rätsel, wir möchten es hören.
So he said to them,
“Out of the eater came something to eat,
And out of the strong came something sweet.”
But they could not tell the riddle in three days.

Er sagte zu ihnen: Vom Fresser kam Speise, vom Starken kam Süßes. Sie aber konnten das Rätsel drei Tage lang nicht lösen.
Then it came about on the fourth day that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, so that he will tell us the riddle, or we will burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you invited us to impoverish us? Is this not so?”
Und es geschah am siebten Tag, sie sagten zur Frau Simsons: Betöre deinen Mann, dass er uns die Lösung des Rätsels nennt; sonst werden wir dich samt dem Haus deines Vaters verbrennen. Habt ihr uns hierher eingeladen, um uns arm zu machen?
Samson’s wife wept before him and said, “You only hate me, and you do not love me; you have propounded a riddle to the sons of my people, and have not told it to me.” And he said to her, “Behold, I have not told it to my father or mother; so should I tell you?”
Da weinte die Frau Simsons vor ihm und sagte: Du hasst mich ja nur und liebst mich nicht. Du hast den Söhnen meines Volkes das Rätsel aufgegeben und hast mir nicht die Lösung gesagt. Er erwiderte ihr: Ich habe es ja nicht einmal meinem Vater und meiner Mutter gesagt. Wie sollte ich es dir sagen?
However she wept before him seven days while their feast lasted. And on the seventh day he told her because she pressed him so hard. She then told the riddle to the sons of her people.
Sie weinte die sieben Tage lang vor ihm, solange sie Gelage hielten. Und es geschah am siebten Tag, da sagte er es ihr, weil sie ihm so zusetzte, und sie teilte die Lösung den Söhnen ihres Volkes mit.
So the men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,
“What is sweeter than honey?
And what is stronger than a lion?”
And he said to them,
“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have found out my riddle.”

And what is stronger than a lion?”
And he said to them,
“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
You would not have found out my riddle.”
Und am siebten Tag sagten die Männer der Stadt zu ihm, bevor die Sonne unterging: Was ist süßer als Honig und was ist stärker als ein Löwe? Er erwiderte ihnen: Hättet ihr nicht mit meiner Kuh gepflügt, dann hättet ihr mein Rätsel nicht erraten.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon him mightily, and he went down to Ashkelon and killed thirty of them and took their spoil and gave the changes of clothes to those who told the riddle. And his anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.
Und der Geist des HERRN kam über ihn; er ging nach Aschkelon hinab und erschlug dreißig Mann von ihnen, nahm ihnen ihre Kleider und gab die Gewänder denen, die das Rätsel gelöst hatten. Sein Zorn entbrannte und er ging hinauf in das Haus seines Vaters.
