Samuel Addresses Israel
Then Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me and I have appointed a king over you.

Noch einmal hielt Samuel eine Rede vor den versammelten Israeliten: »Seht, ich habe euren Wunsch erfüllt und einen König über euch eingesetzt.
“Now, here is the king walking before you, but I am old and gray, and behold my sons are with you. And I have walked before you from my youth even to this day.
Er wird euch von jetzt an vorangehen und euch führen. Ich aber stehe hier als ein alter Mann mit grauen Haaren. Meine Söhne sind schon erwachsene Männer und leben mitten unter euch. Von meiner Jugend bis zum heutigen Tag bin ich euch vorangegangen.
“Here I am; bear witness against me before the LORD and His anointed. Whose ox have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? I will restore it to you.”
Jetzt stelle ich mich eurem Urteil. Vor Gott und seinem auserwählten König frage ich euch: Habe ich je von jemandem ein Rind oder einen Esel genommen? Habe ich irgendeinen von euch schlecht behandelt? Oder habe ich mir auch nur ein einziges Mal durch Bestechungsgelder den Blick trüben lassen und dann ein ungerechtes Urteil gesprochen? Wenn ja, dann will ich alles zurückerstatten.«
They said, “You have not defrauded us or oppressed us or taken anything from any man’s hand.”
Die Volksmenge antwortete: »Nein, niemals hast du uns betrogen oder unterdrückt. Du hast dich auch nie bestechen lassen.«
He said to them, “The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day that you have found nothing in my hand.” And they said, “He is witness.”
Darauf sagte Samuel: »Der HERR und sein auserwählter König sind heute Zeugen dafür, dass ihr keinen Grund zur Anklage gegen mich gefunden habt.« »Ja, so ist es«, stimmte die Menge ihm zu.
Then Samuel said to the people, “It is the LORD who appointed Moses and Aaron and who brought your fathers up from the land of Egypt.
Samuel fuhr fort: »Es war der HERR, der einst Mose und Aaron berufen und eure Vorfahren aus dem Land Ägypten hierher nach Kanaan gebracht hat.
“So now, take your stand, that I may plead with you before the LORD concerning all the righteous acts of the LORD which He did for you and your fathers.
Und nun hört mir zu: In der Gegenwart des HERRN erinnere ich euch an alle Wohltaten, die der HERR in seiner Treue euch und euren Vorfahren immer wieder erwiesen hat:
“When Jacob went into Egypt and your fathers cried out to the LORD, then the LORD sent Moses and Aaron who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
Nachdem euer Stammvater Jakob nach Ägypten gekommen war, riefen eure Vorfahren in äußerster Not zum HERRN um Hilfe. Da schickte er ihnen Mose und Aaron, um das ganze Volk aus Ägypten heraus in dieses Land zu führen.
“But they forgot the LORD their God, so He sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.
Doch schon bald vergaßen sie den HERRN, ihren Gott, und alles, was er für sie getan hatte. Darum gab er sie in die Gewalt ihrer Feinde. Sisera, der Heerführer des Königs von Hazor in Kanaan, die Philister und der König der Moabiter kämpften gegen sie.
“They cried out to the LORD and said, ‘We have sinned because we have forsaken the LORD and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve You.’
Dann schrien eure Vorfahren jedes Mal zum HERRN um Hilfe und bekannten: ›Wir haben gesündigt, denn wir haben dich, HERR, verlassen und die kanaanitischen Götter Baal und Astarte verehrt! Bitte befrei uns doch von unseren Feinden! Dann wollen wir dir allein dienen.‹
“Then the LORD sent Jerubbaal and Bedan and Jephthah and Samuel, and delivered you from the hands of your enemies all around, so that you lived in security.
Da schickte der HERR ihnen erst Gideon, ein anderes Mal Barak, dann Jeftah und schließlich mich, Samuel. Durch diese Männer half Gott euren Vorfahren und jetzt auch euch: Vorher wart ihr von Feinden umgeben, jetzt könnt ihr ruhig und sicher in eurem Land wohnen.
The King Confirmed
“When you saw that Nahash the king of the sons of Ammon came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ although the LORD your God was your king.
Doch als der Ammoniterkönig Nahasch gegen euch in den Krieg zog, da kamt ihr zu mir mit der Forderung: ›Wir wollen einen König haben!‹ Dabei wusstet ihr genau, dass Gott, der HERR, euer König ist.
“Now therefore, here is the king whom you have chosen, whom you have asked for, and behold, the LORD has set a king over you.
Nun gut, hier ist der König, den ihr wolltet! Der HERR hat euren Wunsch erfüllt und ihn über euch eingesetzt.
“If you will fear the LORD and serve Him, and listen to His voice and not rebel against the command of the LORD, then both you and also the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God.
Jetzt habt Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN, dient und gehorcht ihm, und widersetzt euch nicht seinen Geboten. Wenn ihr und euer König dem HERRN treu seid, dann wird er euch beistehen.
“If you will not listen to the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the command of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
Gehorcht ihr ihm aber nicht, sondern missachtet seine Gebote, so wird der HERR sich auch gegen euch stellen wie damals gegen eure Vorfahren.
“Even now, take your stand and see this great thing which the LORD will do before your eyes.
Und nun passt auf! Vor euren Augen wird der HERR ein großes Wunder vollbringen:
“Is it not the wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, that He may send thunder and rain. Then you will know and see that your wickedness is great which you have done in the sight of the LORD by asking for yourselves a king.”
Jetzt ist die Zeit der Weizenernte. Ihr wisst, dass es normalerweise in dieser Jahreszeit nicht regnet. Ich will nun den HERRN bitten, ein Gewitter mit starkem Regen zu schicken. Das soll euch zeigen, wie falsch in den Augen des HERRN euer Wunsch nach einem König war.«
So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
Samuel betete laut zum HERRN, und noch am selben Tag schickte der HERR ein Gewitter; es donnerte laut und regnete heftig. Da bekam das ganze Volk große Angst vor dem HERRN und vor Samuel.
Then all the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, so that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil by asking for ourselves a king.”
Sie flehten Samuel an: »Bete doch für uns zum HERRN, deinem Gott, dass wir nicht sterben! Wir haben schon so viele Sünden begangen, und jetzt haben wir es auch noch gewagt, einen König zu verlangen!«
Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have committed all this evil, yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
»Ihr müsst keine Angst haben«, beruhigte Samuel das Volk. »Ihr habt zwar ein Unrecht begangen. Doch seid von jetzt an dem HERRN treu und dient ihm von ganzem Herzen!
“You must not turn aside, for then you would go after futile things which can not profit or deliver, because they are futile.
Kehrt ihm nie mehr den Rücken! Lauft nicht toten Götzen nach, die ja doch machtlos sind! Sie nützen euch nichts und können euch nicht helfen.
“For the LORD will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the LORD has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.
Der HERR aber macht seinem Namen alle Ehre: Er lässt euch nicht im Stich, denn er hat gerade euch zu seinem Volk erwählt.
“Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you; but I will instruct you in the good and right way.
Auch ich werde weiterhin für euch beten. Denn wenn ich damit aufhörte, würde ich Schuld auf mich laden. Auch in Zukunft will ich euch lehren, was gut und richtig ist.
“Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.
Habt Ehrfurcht vor dem HERRN und dient ihm treu von ganzem Herzen! Vergesst nie, wie viel er schon für euch getan hat!
