Samuel Goes to Bethlehem
Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons.”
Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have selected a king for Myself among his sons.”
Der HERR sagte zu Samuel: Wie lange willst du noch um Saul trauern? Ich habe ihn doch verworfen; er soll nicht mehr als König über Israel herrschen. Fülle dein Horn mit Öl und mach dich auf den Weg! Ich schicke dich zu dem Betlehemiter Isai; denn ich habe mir einen von seinen Söhnen als König ausersehen.
But Samuel said, “How can I go? When Saul hears of it, he will kill me.” And the LORD said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
Samuel erwiderte: Wie kann ich da hingehen? Saul wird es erfahren und mich umbringen. Der HERR sagte: Nimm ein junges Rind mit und sag: Ich bin gekommen, um dem HERRN ein Schlachtopfer darzubringen.
“You shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do; and you shall anoint for Me the one whom I designate to you.”
Lade Isai zum Opfer ein! Ich selbst werde dich dann erkennen lassen, was du tun sollst: Du sollst mir nur den salben, den ich dir nennen werde.
So Samuel did what the LORD said, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said, “Do you come in peace?”
Samuel tat, was der HERR befohlen hatte. Als er nach Betlehem kam, gingen ihm die Ältesten der Stadt zitternd entgegen und fragten: Bedeutet dein Kommen Frieden?
He said, “In peace; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” He also consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
Er antwortete: Frieden. Ich bin gekommen, um dem HERRN ein Schlachtopfer darzubringen. Heiligt euch und kommt mit mir zum Opfer! Dann heiligte er Isai und seine Söhne und lud sie zum Opfer ein.
When they entered, he looked at Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’S anointed is before Him.”
Als sie kamen und er den Eliab sah, dachte er: Gewiss steht nun vor dem HERRN sein Gesalbter.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Der HERR aber sagte zu Samuel: Sieh nicht auf sein Aussehen und seine stattliche Gestalt, denn ich habe ihn verworfen; Gott sieht nämlich nicht auf das, worauf der Mensch sieht. Der Mensch sieht, was vor den Augen ist, der HERR aber sieht das Herz.
Then Jesse called Abinadab and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Nun rief Isai den Abinadab und ließ ihn vor Samuel treten. Dieser sagte: Auch ihn hat der HERR nicht erwählt.
Next Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
Isai ließ Schima kommen. Samuel sagte: Auch ihn hat der HERR nicht erwählt.
Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, “The LORD has not chosen these.”
So ließ Isai sieben seiner Söhne vor Samuel treten, aber Samuel sagte zu Isai: Diese hat der HERR nicht erwählt.
And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are these all the children?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and behold, he is tending the sheep.” Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him; for we will not sit down until he comes here.”
Und er fragte Isai: Sind das alle jungen Männer? Er antwortete: Der jüngste fehlt noch, aber der hütet gerade die Schafe. Samuel sagte zu Isai: Schick jemand hin und lass ihn holen; wir wollen uns nicht zum Mahl hinsetzen, bevor er hergekommen ist.
David Anointed
So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”
Isai schickte also jemand hin und ließ ihn kommen. David war rötlich, hatte schöne Augen und eine schöne Gestalt. Da sagte der HERR: Auf, salbe ihn! Denn er ist es.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah.
Samuel nahm das Horn mit dem Öl und salbte David mitten unter seinen Brüdern. Und der Geist des HERRN war über David von diesem Tag an. Samuel aber brach auf und kehrte nach Rama zurück.
Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrorized him.
Der Geist des HERRN war von Saul gewichen und ein böser Geist vom HERRN verstörte ihn.
Saul’s servants then said to him, “Behold now, an evil spirit from God is terrorizing you.
Da sagten die Diener Sauls zu ihm: Du siehst, ein böser Geist Gottes verstört dich.
“Let our lord now command your servants who are before you. Let them seek a man who is a skillful player on the harp; and it shall come about when the evil spirit from God is on you, that he shall play the harp with his hand, and you will be well.”
Darum möge unser Herr seinen Knechten, die vor ihm stehen, befehlen, einen Mann zu suchen, der die Leier zu spielen versteht. Sobald dich der böse Geist Gottes überfällt, soll er spielen; dann wird es dir wieder gut gehen.
So Saul said to his servants, “Provide for me now a man who can play well and bring him to me.”
Saul sagte zu seinen Dienern: Seht euch für mich nach einem Mann um, der gut spielen kann, und bringt ihn her zu mir!
Then one of the young men said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is a skillful musician, a mighty man of valor, a warrior, one prudent in speech, and a handsome man; and the LORD is with him.”
Einer der jungen Männer antwortete: Ich kenne einen Sohn des Betlehemiters Isai, der zu spielen versteht. Und er ist tapfer und ein guter Krieger, wortgewandt, von schöner Gestalt und der HERR ist mit ihm.
So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David who is with the flock.”
Da schickte Saul Boten zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Schick mir deinen Sohn David, der bei den Schafen ist!
Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread and a jug of wine and a young goat, and sent them to Saul by David his son.
Isai nahm einen Esel, dazu Brot, einen Schlauch Wein und ein Ziegenböckchen und schickte seinen Sohn David damit zu Saul.
Then David came to Saul and attended him; and Saul loved him greatly, and he became his armor bearer.
So kam David zu Saul und trat in seinen Dienst; Saul gewann ihn sehr lieb und David wurde sein Waffenträger.
Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Let David now stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.”
Darum schickte Saul zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: David soll in meinem Dienst bleiben; denn er hat mein Wohlwollen gefunden.
So it came about whenever the evil spirit from God came to Saul, David would take the harp and play it with his hand; and Saul would be refreshed and be well, and the evil spirit would depart from him.
Sooft nun ein Geist Gottes Saul überfiel, nahm David die Leier und spielte darauf. Dann fühlte sich Saul erleichtert, es ging ihm wieder gut und der böse Geist wich von ihm.
